If someone would have told me yesterday (april fools day) that they are still seeing bucks that haven’t dropped yet I would have thought it was a joke. But, this evening I saw one that hadn’t dropped.

I didn’t mind the February we had at all. But I also own a snow removal company. I like it when it snows, but it does cut into my fishing time.

Was out saturday and sunday. Made it out 3 miles with a wheeler. Never had to put the chains on and never got stuck.

My 5 year old says other 5 year old olds really like dogs. I hope that’s true!

I have to share with others that actually understand what I’m talking about. My 5 year old asks for a report everytime i come in from the stand and I explained the second failed attempt to him. Typical 5 year old response, “why”, followed by about 9 more “why’s”, then back to destroying whatever he can get his hands on.

I try to explain it to the wife and get about the same response as my 5 year old. Just not so many “why’s”. Then back to ordering whatever the deal of the day on Amazon is.

Well, I had my second chance at the same buck that brought this post about in the first place. Had not seen him in shooting hours for about a month until tonight. After the first encounter with this buck and the not so pleasant ending, for me at least, i got all my issues squared away and was ready for another attempt. So I thought.

Had not seen a deer all afternoon and with about 5 min left of shooting time i catch movement out of the corner of my eye. I slowly turn and see that it’s the buck that got my undies all in a bunch the first time. Calm and collected i get stood up while he is behind a tree and has no clue i’m 15 feet above him. He takes two more steps and it’s game on. He’s got one more step and then clear for a shot.

And this is where I blew it for the second time.

I go to draw back and get about a quarter draw and “flop” there goes my arrow. When I hooked my release into the nocking loop i neglected to make sure it was all the way around the loop. I bet i will never do that again. When I started to draw the release let go and my arrow fell to the ground. Strike number 2 for me…

Plus side of the situation was that he only went about 15 yards after this and stood there trying to figure out what the noise was. Never looking directly at me. I don’t think i spooked him enough not to come back again but time will tell. I didn’t want to make tons of movement in trying to get another arrow out and spooking him anymore than he already had been. Then he slowly walked away with victory in his step. And by no means do i speak “deer” but i thought i heard him say as he was walking away “I have beaten you again my friend, this is starting to get fun for me”.

Last winter i had a bait puck i was using for minnow heads when walleye fishing. Normally i left it in my bibs which stayed in the back of the truck so they never really thawed all the way. One day, for some reason i threw the puck in the cup holder near my center council. After a night of snowplowing and the cab of the truck heating up i noticed a smell that resembled something like a dead animal, but worse. I thought maybe it was just my shoes.

The truck sat for a few days and so did the bait puck. But the warmer weather and the suns rays allowed the minnow heads in the bait puck to stay thawed. I got in the truck a few days later and was punched square in the face with an odor that would make a skunk cry. At which point i realized it wasn’t my shoes that stunk like previously thought. I tore that truck apart thinking maybe a cheeseburger or taco bell had been forgotten about while plowing. With no luck in finding the odor i had to use the truck to take the kids to gymnastics, then to the auto store for bulk air fresheners.

Now back in the gymnastics parking lot and and 27 bubble gum smelling airfresheners later i could still smell this odor. At which point i look down and see the bait puck and think “oh i wonder if my waxies are still alive”. I open the bait puck and am met face to face with what making out with sasquatch has to taste like. I barely got the door open and was spewing my lunch on the pavement. Meanwhile there is a steady stream of families leaving the gym as class was over. And then there is me, hunched over blowing chunks so hard i thought my eyes were going to pop out of my head. But, on the flip side when i do go in and sit in the parent section there is never really and small talk between the other parents and me.

I have always had pretty good luck at the show when dealing in cash. Go to all the different major store booths and ask them what the best deal they can give you is, tell them you pay cash. See who gives you the best price and go with it. Reeds has always been very good to me.

I used to buy my work clothes out of the cave all the time. Shirts and jeans or whatever kind of pants they had. Plus, then i would stock up on any fishing items i needed or hunting stuff i needed.

Now i just go to the local thrift store for work clothes. I will say they are lacking in the hunting and fishing merchandise but the people watching usually makes up for that!

This must be a sign from god!

    1. Do lawn care for a living
    2. Been perfecting the dad bod by keeping to a strict fast food diet
    3. Won the belly flop and cannon ball contest last week at the resort pool

Heck i’d even consider just spending a day in the boat learning some new tricks and techniques for payment!

And no one has mentioned getting hounded to sign up for the “cabelas card”…or maybe they have and I missed it.

All i’ve seen so far is does with fawns and a few turkeys. None of the bucks I had over the winter have shown back up. But I did get this pic of a crow that I thought was kinda cool.

I do it multiple times a week with my lawn care trailer. I see no issues with it.

I should add though, I know what places my truck and trailer will fit into with no issues.

I’ve got a Bushnell camera and get the same thing. Seems like once the weeds start blowing in the wind I can get a great timelapse of the wind blowing. Also, it seems like the shadows have an effect sometimes as well. There was times I have had it out and had a pic every 15 seconds for hours and hours on end.

I had my work truck gone through when i lived down in Brooklyn Park. They didn’t take the change or the cash that was in the center council. Or the nice pair of sunglasses sitting on the dash. All they took was a Keith Urban cd and maybe a few others that I haven’t seemed to miss so far. That same night my neighbor had 2 of his tires slashed as well.
I’ll take the loss of a couple cd’s over getting my tires slashed any day!

Is there a way to order a rod but not have it delivered to your house where your wife will say… “You didn’t order another rod!!”

Maybe someone should start a fishing rod and shoe company. Then a guy could order fishing rods, have them shipped to the house, and with them comes a pair of womens shoes.
Guy gets new rods, gal gets new shoes. Gal forgets about new rods. Everyone happy!

Should be an interesting one for me. Told the 4 year old he could come out and sit with me this year. We have been practicing sitting still and being quite.

Lets just say the weather was great for the 4 days we were there. If it hadn’t been so nice out I think the trip would have been cut short. Fishing was hard, marked fish, lots of lookers, not many takers.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Would anyone recommend a certain color or presentation that seems to produce more than others???

Aggressive is a great way to describe them. Love the looks and how they perform. Just not sure if I would buy another set. Looking at the KO2’s or the duratracs as replacements.

I remember a time in south dakota as a kid pheasant hunting with my dad where we watched birds flying across the road by the hundreds. It was like mosquitoes on a summer night there was so many.

I have multiple tickle sticks and love them. Broke the tip off my ultralight one and just cut it back to the next eyelet and works just as great.

Went and grabbed the chip out of the camera today and was happy to see this guy, along with another buck who had already dropped.
