The males have an orange upper belly or “chest”. Females have a yellow belly. Always good to know this when fishing the spawn or fishing them in the weeks prior to the spawn

Why do I have to sell my soul to faceplace to enter these contests? IDO is all I need.
Just gimme gimme gimme…
Agreed! farcebook will never see me with an account! Maybe i will have the wife sign up though
February 16, 2012 at 12:52 pm #1039608I think this is a bit more common than people think. The local lake that i fish has a pair of eagles that have stolen fish for the past 5-6 years. Leaving fish next to the productive holes and hole hopping is a big no-no! I have even tried to cover up the fish with slush to kind of hide them and that doesn’t work either.
February 3, 2012 at 12:22 pm #1034958The boys over in the service department at Strikemaster would be able to answer your question about putting a larger drill on the Strike Lite. Obviously there may be a warranty issue with changing out the drill, maybe not. For sure they would be able to tell you if it is going to work. I would imagine from their R&D prior to producing their augers they would know what the limits of the motor would be.
February 2, 2012 at 5:22 pm #1034683Yeah, where is methodist point?
I am afraid that this warm weather will doom the river ice. Anyone going out had better be very careful.
January 24, 2012 at 11:52 pm #1031635I am guessing that this part of the river may be in the middle 1/3 of the total stream length where the coldest water is during the winter months. And, if the hillside is on the south / southeast side of the stream, with a lack of transient sunlight the water would definitely be super cold and not habitable for trout food let alone trout.
January 22, 2012 at 6:31 pm #1030954I did a little modification to my bibs – since I think that the shoulder straps are a bit too long I had the mother in law sew a criss-cross or “X” shape in them so they wouldn’t rub the side of my neck and also slide off of my shoulders. Just something to consider if you are having this problem.
January 15, 2012 at 11:25 pm #1028163I know that the secci clears up during the winter months, but I would be quite suprised by this much light penetration in nearly 40 feet of water……
January 1, 2012 at 12:33 am #1023062Too bad you didn’t buy a lotto ticket instead of going fishing today! What are the odds of getting 2 paddles in 2 trips!!!! Way to go!
December 15, 2011 at 1:09 am #1017850I just had my LX5 delivered today! Pretty excited to say the least. I am going to take the precautionary steps and use my daughter’s 6-12 month sock to put over the transducer when i am storing it between outings. Hopefully though the problem has been solved for these new units.
December 13, 2011 at 5:54 pm #1017340I think that Marcum maybe went a little too steep on their price on the Lx7. From the Vx1 to the Lx5, prices are in $100 increments from $299, $399 and $499. At an extra $100 over the Lx5, I would have bought one, but i couldn’t see spending $700 compared to $500.
December 3, 2011 at 11:53 pm #1014246My buddy sent me a text this afternoon saying that there were a few guys with boards trying to get onto the ice at the cemetary. This snow might just slow ’em down a bit….
July 23, 2011 at 11:20 pm #983327I can understand the portability and scouting advantages to this camera, but I can’t see it being used for fishing as a normal aqua vu. Fish wraps around your cable and down the micro goes! If a cell phone can fall down a hole, well, so can the micro.
March 27, 2011 at 10:51 pm #951191Send ’em to LA or Vegas – in 3 years no one will remember that there was a “professional” team in MN anyway! Won’t cost much to ship the trophy case!
Ha Ha Ha!
Go Pack Go!February 7, 2011 at 4:02 am #934434Is it me, or is it that in every big event some big name sings the star spangled banner and butchers it? Very dissapointed. This is all the better the NFL could do to pay patronage to our troops and country? Since when was this bimbo a patriot? What is wrong with a country singer? You can’t tell me a country singer would have done worse! At least Roseanne had an excuse to sing the stars and stripes horribly – she has not talent.
February 7, 2011 at 3:54 am #934430So as i see it, we will be the NFL Champions for over 360 days? Wow! Way to go Packers!
January 24, 2011 at 12:51 am #929475My deepest sympathy to the bears fans… there’s always next year.
November 1, 2010 at 11:16 pm #907389I have a small slit sewn into the outside my ice armor pants – the skimmer handle fits right in. When the hole gets a bit frosty I pull out the skimmer and scoop.
March 11, 2010 at 3:36 pm #852178Fishing a designated trout stream – she must have been awfully hungry! I am not a big trout fisherman but I do take a few weeks in May/June to go after them. From the people I have talked to about this no one has ever heard of such a thing. It was a deeper pool with boulders in it – maybe the trout reacted out of being suprised by the worm being pulled overhead? Anyway, a trout that big isn’t any good to eat and who knows – maybe someone released that fish before and I had the privilege to catch it! Maybe we will tangle again this spring!
March 10, 2010 at 6:58 pm #851826Last year I caught a 23″ brown retrieving a nightcrawler. Was reeling up to hit the next pool and wham! Just like a bass. Have no idea why a trout this size would hit a nightcrawer on the retrieve but she did. Hopefully she doesn’t do that again to another angler!
February 11, 2010 at 6:13 pm #841480I was up at leech last weekend. Caught small walleyes under the slot. Ended up bringing home 7 walleyes total in the group. Weather had to have played a role – not what I am used to. Fished one 34′ hump. Marked a lot of fish, only a few ended up biting. Caught fish on both jigging spoons and tip ups.
Did find some perch on the grand vue flats, but really had to sort through them to find a few to keep for the dinner table.
Also ran into the Team Ice group. Somewhere from Wisconsin is where they came from – but they were pulling up lots of walleyes consistently. Outfished us handedly. They wouldn’t share any secrets, but did offer some very good tips that helped us put our 7 walleyes on the ice. A big thank you goes out to them! They made the difference in our trip.
Good luck to everyone at Leech!
February 1, 2010 at 2:27 pm #838449How is the lake in terms of traveling? I have been getting conflicting reports of being able to drive wherever you want and don’t go off of the traveled ice roads. I would like to try a few secret spots over the next few days, haven’t had the time to get onto the lake in the past week after the warmup.
December 31, 2009 at 7:11 pm #8283387-9 inches of ice on bone lake as of yesterday during the snow. Hit quite a few slushy spots with the ATV on the north side of the lake. Maybe this cold front will get that slush taken care of by the end of the weekend. Maybe able to drive out mid-week next week? We will see. Caught some silver dollar crappies and a bunch of small (male?) perch.
December 19, 2009 at 3:59 pm #824729I was out on the main lake yesterday. For the first time I caught a bunch of white bass. Never knew that they were in the lake until yesterday. They were definately the most aggresive species in the water. Caught a few bluegills and perch – not much size to them. Wish I would have brought the ATV so I could get around to a few more spots – I wouldn’t have a problem traveling by ATV/Snowmobile now.
There was a Chevy Tahoe on ice ice out from the Elk Point landing on Tainter lake yesterday afternoon. That guy must have some serious bearings!
