Jake, I just ordered some of your dekes yesterday. I am excited to try them out this spring for my first time snowgoose hunting. I will be 6 miles from Hecla and hope to find some birds at some point when they are in the area. I have 6,000 acres that I’ve been bowhunting the last few falls and have seen the snows then, just don’t know what to expect in the spring, first time for snows. Got any tips?

It’s like throwing an axe through them!

I would be pumped too. Did they give it a 30″ spread?

Is that the new piece you just picked up down near Loring park? Having some snicker chubs around might help with the ratio on your farm.

I just saw this on Boone and Crocketts site and it says it’s from Saskatchewan. WTF!

Kooty, I have taken a couple to the local meat locker in Rogers and have them smoked. After you shoot one all you have to do is field dress it and drop it off, they do the rest. It only cost $20 and it was superb! I shot one in Nebraska a couple weekends ago bowhunting and had it smoked, hopefully I’ll tip another over in bow season for minnesota and deep-fry that one. Good luck hunting!

MW Hunter, Which shop carries them? I like my Elite GT500 very much but am probably going to purchase a new set up for strictly turkey hunting. I was looking at a Z28, but want to compare it to strother’s before taking plunge.

Benny, Great post! One thing I have noticed is when I only use hen decoys and a tom comes in gobbling, he more than likely will lock up just out of range. The tom will sit there for what seems like 30 minutes gobbling trying to get the hen(your decoy) to come to him. Sometimes no decoy is better than one or two hen decoys, then the tom will keep trying to find the hen. I think the best set up is to have a hen and a jake or full-strut tom decoy, that way the tom won’t lock up and try to coax the hen to him, but rather he will come in to kick some tail and run the other tom off and hopefully present you with a shot. Oh boy, I am fired up! Here I come Nebraska!

I shot this Merriam last spring in Nebraska. Too bad the landowner doesn’t know how to take a damn picture

You can get a sportsman’s atlas at any of the sporting good stores, or you might check nebraska’s game & parks web site they might have online maps of public areas. I have been bowhunting down there every spring for the last 10 years and it’s a blast. Good luck!

Heading to the pond for the extravaganza. Saw 4 bucks last sunday still packing both sides, so I’ll give it some more time.

I have found it pretty tough to get on land in NE, but have found a couple that I’ve stuck with. I hate to think about having to try and find a new farm if I lost these. I have a couple farms in Missouri also, where bouts do you go in Missouri. The farms I hunt butt right up to Iowa in North-Central/Western Missouri. I haven’t tried turkey down there yet but saw a bunch last fall bowhunting.

Don’t bother, why pay $188 to shoot a turkey in Iowa when you can go to Nebraska and only pay $66 and buy on-line and you can buy 2 tags. I used to hunt southern Iowa for turkeys but the price has gotten rediculous for a NR tag and you have to draw. Been hunting NE for about five years now and it’s awesome, only bad thing is there’s too many birds. All I need is one, and it makes it a tad frustrating when there’s too many to compete with as far as calling & getting them to come in. I will still pay the fee to bowhunt deer in Iowa, but not turkey.
