I just picked up a qt and used it the first time for basically exactly what you are wanting in a rod. Sounds like the qt will be right up your alley for what your looking for.
January 6, 2014 at 6:02 pm #1377601I haven’t see any issues with 3.17. Fella I fish with on a regular basis has had zero issues with the 3.17.
Grape vine talk says an update is still being worked on, few things to work thru. But that’s just here say.
January 6, 2014 at 3:22 pm #1377532I prefer the top of the ducer to be flush with the bottom of the ice. I don’t like having it in the hole
January 4, 2014 at 4:52 pm #1376790They are all like that. Why are you fishing 2′ below the ice and need to mark your jig? Look down the hole.
January 3, 2014 at 10:23 pm #1376650Gotta get the ski wheeler in the photo.
How’s that knee holding up for ya?
January 3, 2014 at 10:12 pm #1376647For me it depends on the body of water and weather. In general my best crappie bites have been first hour or so of light and the last hour give or take of light.
I have had some great mid day bites as well as some all day bites. If the weather is right and they are feeding hard I have caught crappies a solid hour plus into the dark. My schedule doesn’t allow me to much night fishing. Ok have honestly only givin the night bite a go on a few occasions.

Seems like many people swear by using only a black jig combined w/ a black plastic. I guess i’m not quite a believer in it yet, but would like to hear some tips and best situations to use them. I would assume clear water would be the best situation to start.

Use them when that is the color the fish are hitting. If the fish don’t want the color I have on the rotating begins, If I find they are liking the darker colors such as red or purple but are still a bit picky I will transition over too black. so far this year in the doz or so times I have been out, one time black was the lights out color. that just what the fish wanted that day.
December 27, 2013 at 6:40 am #1374398^ agree. I get the same thing on my LX-5 when my battery is getting low on juice.
How old is the unit? If its not the battery there is only one other thing I can think of that it would be.
December 27, 2013 at 6:37 am #1374396Keep an eye on the pressure, I have always seemed to do better when it is low or dropping.
What are you using for bait? This does not always hold true but in some areas I have found to catch larger crappies using plastics and larger ones at that.
So far this year we have had our best crappie luck fishing shelves. areas where the bottom goes from 5 to 10ft to 20 to 30 ft. Our best early ice days were in 24fow, currently we have been on a solid crappy bite in 17fow.
Keep hopping around, im sure sooner or later you will get on them.
December 21, 2013 at 10:32 pm #1373300Bait shop in west Salem may be able to help ya out if that’s closer to ya
December 17, 2013 at 6:24 am #1371924Before you make the treck do a little research, if you know anyone in the area contact them and also call the bait shops in the areas your gonna try and fish and get a heads up. There are fish to be had but sometimes are hard to find as there is a lot of water and area on the river. We have been hard at it and of some 10 to 15 days of fishing this ice season have yet to ice a crappie over 12″ and a gill over 10″.
What are big pan to you?
December 15, 2013 at 5:50 pm #1363472^. I really do like straight reels. Even when fishing 20 to 30′ of water i have no issues. I can drop a light tackle just as fast as my spinning reel, spinning reel is def faster with heavier tackle for obvious reason.
December 15, 2013 at 3:44 pm #1371535^. That’d be the place. I’d call ahead if your driving a ways to make sure they are not running out which they were the other day.
December 15, 2013 at 3:40 pm #1371529Black Betty is one of my favorites. Also really like the black Betty real on the wicked 27″ UL
December 14, 2013 at 11:32 am #1371302What mine of truck is it? Is it a gray ranger?
Seem out there, there is always some tools with small trucks and cars that drive out there. I don’t care if they choose to be dumb arses but stay the heck away from me. I hear ya, it’s one thing to put your own safety on the line but don’t be diving anywhere near others and put them at risk….
Lake ona has always been a classy area for fishermen………. Ha
December 13, 2013 at 6:09 pm #1371221Nice catch. I’m in your boat with the open water deal. We get on fish but nothing close to ice time

I just had to share that I caught a monstronny of a bluegill today in 24 foot of water suspended at 10 feet on a small silver glow stripe slender spoon. Looks like I know what to buy now for those big gills.
Nice gill, I bet there would be much more like it if people didn’t keep so many fish out of that area. Your picture is crooked btw

Looking forward to ordering my first TUC rod here shortly, just doing a little research to figure out what will fit my fishing habits the best.
Bravo for research! It’s always a good idea prior to purchasing, but you can contact Adam or John directly and they can tell you exactly what you need for your specific purposes and habits. A great and helpful bunch of guys.
I’ve been picking the ecnook guys brain.. and searching the web. One of the biggest things im stuck on is length of rod to get.
December 11, 2013 at 9:00 am #1370602Well since ya didn’t specify what kinda rig your looking for. I am mainly a duck hunter so I use mudmotortalk and craigslist.
