Wow, a volunteer taps on a form and causes a voters brain to respond with “oh that’s who I vote for”. I realize years of trump lies have corrupted a lot more brains then this lady did. Why don’t you volunteer to work elections if your so concerned. This site has too often turned from fishing to politics, the owner should be ashamed, but of course he is a trump supporter and allows election conspiracy cranks space.

Feel bad for Sanibel and Captiva folks with bridge out. No birthday end of January week at West Wind on Sanibel for me this year, I hope they can survive the economic toll on top of any damage sustained at resort. 2021 hurricane hitting the panhandle damaged rental condo on Perdido Key, closed it for a year. The previous bad hurricane there shut it down for two years. Brothers home on Big Pine Key was totaled by hurricane a few years back, was on piers but wind twisted it. Florida is always in path at somewhere, with everyone wanting a piece of shoreline must be willing to pay the insurance(if available) or roll the dice and self insure.

I will be up there Forest Lane 8-15th. I will be the older guy with 1991 Alumacraft Magnum CS with Evinrude (Suzuki) 4 Stroke. Was up there last year with my wife for 4 days in September and 4 days in October. Was there in July, spinner bite, suspect same in September, I did catch some on lead line cranks last September just for variety. October is jig time (my favorite). I think I talked to you and your partner last September. I love walleye fishing, sometimes its a struggle, but I love trying. See you there.

Driving down the highway with unsecured rods in rod socks is always in danger of flying out. A fishing partner lost an expensive rod and reel the same way. Rod socks basically form a wing with lift enough to send the rod over the back of the boat when it hits the air stream.

I did a 16×20 slab for a shed 20 years ago. Filled in with class 5 compacted by hand. Major point is use rebar. I put a lot in. 20 years later zero cracks. Do not buy the story that some material in the concrete mix means it won’t need rebar.

I buy an annual Florida Saltwater license as I get down there a couple times a year, mainly surf, some pier fishing. Get an Alabama Pier fishing license as well.

Eskimo Pistol Grip is the lightest. Has a blade protection cover that is secure and goes on much easier than Strikemaster or Kdrill. The fall in protection disc is more rigid than the Strikemaster. I have used it this winter and sold my Strikemaster 50 volt, the Milwaukee drill and Pistol Grip were flawless.

I have a 9.5 MH surf rod and a 7 med heavy. I use a 3000 reel on on 9.5 and a 2500 on 7. I started going with a 6500, never use it. Went out on one charter he had 3000 reels on med rods we caught big reds, snapper, a blast. Anything caught on surf can be handled with 3000 reel and 20 lb braid managing your drag and walking the beach.

This will be our 4th year renting a condo on the beach on Perdido Key. I like it because I can surf fish whenever I want. I bring two travel rods. See Bama Beach Bum on youtube if you want an idea of what you can catch, how to bait etc. I have caught lots of whiting (sauger size fish very similar to walleye eating quality), Pompano, Redfish, Black Drum, and of course the occasional catfish. Went to Joe Pattis in Pensacola until I found Perdido Seafood which actually sources Joe Patti’s shrimp. Fishermans Corner is a true cajun restaurant, not inexpensive but excellent, the first time I pulled up I thought this is a dump as it looks rundown shack, it is, however, a first-class restaurant as far as the food is concerned. I know it is warmer south and I go to Sanibel Island for a week in Jan for more warmth but what is nice in Perdido are the beaches, surf fishing, and lack of crowds. Come to think it sucks there I would recommend Orange Beach.

Chains on trucks take only 10 minutes, on lakes with minimum road structure or icy steep accesses, allow for freer movement and a lot less stress. Found this on Winny coming out of High Point and on Leech last year. My brother and I found out the hard way about sockets not matching lug nuts. Always carry a 4way lug wrench.

Regarding checking the thermostat for blockage. Two falls ago I prepared to change the oil in my 2001 70HP Evinrude (Suzuki) 4 stroke. pulled out the plug and out shot a fluid that looked like a milkshake. The milkshake appearance was due to more than a 1/2 quart of water in the oil. I panicked thinking head gasket or some very expensive issue. Took it to Miller Marine in St Cloud. Their finding, a thermostat stuck open with gravel. I did a lot of late fall trolling then and due to the stuck open thermostat the motor never warmed up enough to eliminate condensation in the crankcase, so it just built up. Replaced thermostat, every fall oil change back to normal. This is a piece of good advice for changing out oil in fall rather than spring.

Xtratuff 12 inch, use all summer wet lawn, garden chores, on the boat in rain comfortable and quality, Alaskans are big on this boot. Not cheap but they hold up over cheap rubber boots.

Was out this AM, had my best outing in two years, spot locked and casted into milfoil edges about 7 feet of water with a wacky-rigged 5-inch worm. 14 bass 15 to 19 inch. Was surprised to have them concentrated in a 100-foot piece of milfoil shoreline, they appeared to be post-spawn females. caught a few smaller fish in other areas, got off the water at 9:30. It was hot

Two drownings in Tuesday’s paper, one Lake Ida, one Leech lake. Leech Lake he was fiddling with drain plug. Partner couldn’t save him. I 100% wear inflatable and anyone who fishes in my boat wears a pdf or they don’t fish in my boat.

Thanks, Tom P. You can not get anything beyond a 2017 non-BT hand unit in the Legacy upgrade. I ordered a new 55# 54 inch I Pilot Link Terrova and am putting my old one up for sale. New one everything is BT AND most importantly the software on the Humminbird and the Terrova can be upgraded. Thank you all for your advice.

Thank you all. My post should have said just bought the Helix 9 GN4 so it is latest model, which is driving the need for I Pilot Link as I really want the follow contour capability. My boat is a 99 Alumacraft 165 Magnum CS with a 70 Evinrude 4 stroke (Suzuki) boat is perfect for me so I am going to keep it till I can no longer fish alone. If I can get 600 for old one, then I go new. Higher thrust another battery, new 3 bank charger, snap on cover no longer fits, and because 24v only come with mega DI, my old Helix 9 GN1 will not work in bow. Can still get US2 on 55.

I used a cheap electric fencer last year to squirrel-proof my bird feeders and I killed some birds, flying squirrels, red squirrel, even a grey squirrel. Was not happy about it. This winter I put in a solar power one which pulses every second or so. No more killing. It was also effective in summer for protecting the garden from deer using a single poly-based line and “deer pops”. I found that cheap fencers are continuous charge which is why they kill as critters cant release at times. In addition, you must have better-insulating techniques or they will burn through insulators once they develop a carbon track. The bottom line go solar and pulse duty. You can get various power levels for distance and animal size as well.

I ordered a kit for my Terrova last week so I could link to my new Helix 9 G3N, includes a new remote, was 650, but much cheaper than a new TM. My Terrova was a 2012 12V, so I will get a much better spotlock, follow contours, track to wavepoint, etc. I will sell my old electronics with spotlock.

I started ice fishing rather late in life, the number one way I learned panfish was by use of a camera, once you have seen their responses to various lures and actions you are way up the learning curve. Particularly on bites that a spring bobber barely responds you will see how fast you have to be to get them when they are doing the inhale and spit routine trying to get your bait off. On a active bite almost anything works, it’s the toughest bite that the camera shines. I don’t use it much anymore because I have learned it’s lessons.

Vexilars have excellent battery life, low current draw compared to any of the lcd based units (I have taken current readings on other graphs). When on a Genz box can take a physical beating. Main thing is they will last forever with maybe a brush replace at most. In addition I enjoy the whirring sound while fishing. I have a FL-18 and it has never let me down

Pulaski is a deep spring fed lake that freezes late and unevenly. Buffalo is not 100% safe, Pulaski much later. With the projected snow it will be dangerous.

I have caught 90% of schooled bass (2 over 5#) wacky worm with barbless hook 1/16 oz spit shot. I always crush the barb when wacky rigging as it is much easier popping hook out especially when going through gills to reverse a deep hook. I find you very seldom lose a fish and it is much easier on the fish. Keep wanting to try other techniques, but it is hard to beat wacky when schooled. The rest have been on a long shaft 1/4 oz green firetiger fireball jighead with a Kalins SIZMIC Shad in Pearl. The key to finding schools is finding the greenest weeds. Jighead is often my search method as it collects weeds and I can examine quality.

The FAA has jurisdiction of the airspace over your house, you do not. Drones are considered aircraft. Shooting down a drone will result in legal consequences. I suggest those who revel in blasting away with a shotgun spend some time researching the law. Lawyers are not cheap! If you got lucky you may get by with purchasing the owner a new one, but I suspect an owner would rather press charges then confront someone who thinks using a shotgun is a good idea.

I fish by myself 1-2 days a week. Forgot to put the plug in last time out, was casting from front of boat, turned around to a sinking boat. Thankfully bulge pump worked well but I got pretty wet putting in the plug, that hasn’t happened in a long time.
