No, it was new in 2023 so I believe it is gen 2. It includes a heading sensor puck.

Lac Seul Resort is about 1 mile from the public launch near Hudson. It’s also near Lost Island Resort.
I’m not interested in 1-room cabins like you reference at Mahkwa. Separate bedrooms are important in case a few guys want to stay up late and others want to sleep.
We fished a number of different areas around Lac Seul Resort……Italian Bay, Webster Bay, Pelican Rapids. Also just fished random islands and points near the resort. Caught fish in all of these areas.
July 30, 2018 at 10:33 am #1788318We just got back yesterday from Lac Seul Resort near Hudson. 3 boats, 9 fishermen fished for 3-1/2 days. It was pretty solid. 582 total walleye. Wide range of sizes from cigars to nice eaters to slot fish to over the slot. Plenty of 21″-23″ fish, a few 24″, one 25″, and one 28″. We almost exclusively fished crawlers on a jig or bottom bouncer with spinner. Depths were 20′ – 30′. It was critical to watch your graph and find fish and then fish them. Blindly fishing spots was not as effective. It was also critical to move if you weren’t getting bit or you were catching cigars. Move until you found the nicer fish. Our stay at Lac Seul Resort was average. The cabins need some work. We are considering staying at Lost Island Resort or even try Mahkwa.
July 18, 2018 at 12:46 pm #1786358Anyone been in the Hudson area of Lac Seul lately? I’m heading up there in a week and looking for reports.
Thanks.
June 27, 2018 at 12:27 pm #1782776I bought a used 2016 Lund Impact 1875 with a 150 hp Merc this spring. I love it. I do agree with brian_peterson that it doesn’t ride really big waves well. We were on Vermilion with some big rollers and we got pounded. But, to avoid that you need a 20’+ fiberglass.
I was in the same boat as you trying to decide between Competitor and Impact. I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. I do like that my model has the jump seats that also fold down to form a bigger casting platform. Not sure if the Competitor has that. But, I do like the dashboard better with the Competitor. Much more room for the bigger graphs.
June 7, 2018 at 7:31 am #1778937Fish-Lectronics up near Fridley off of University carries them. $10. Problem solved.
Thanks for the replies.
April 26, 2018 at 8:01 am #1770576Thanks for the input. The reason I push it part way into my garage is that I have about 1′ clear on each side as I get farther back into my garage. I’m always afraid I’m going to hit the gas and smash into a wall and scratch up my boat, etc. It’s safer for me to push it a few feet (6′ or so). But, this is a heavy boat and I’m going to blow my back out pushing it too much.
I’m going to try to push it with the jack lowered all the way and see if that’s easier. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try replacing the wheel. I like David Bollig’s idea of welding on a piece of square tube and inserting a conduit to be used for “steering” the wheel. But, I don’t know how to weld.
If all else fails I’ll buy a 2-wheel jack but check the bold pattern first.
Thanks again!!!
April 3, 2018 at 5:41 pm #1765024My current plan is to sell my 24V Terrova with iPilot Link and get a new 24V Ulterra with iPilot (no Link). I will also be selling a Humminbird 859. Hopefully posting all the equipment on the classifieds next week.
February 9, 2018 at 9:09 am #1751070Wow. Lots of great input. I appreciate it.
So, I think I’ve decided I’ll go with the Okuma reels (size 30). But, I’m still undecided on the rods. Definitely not going with the Cabela’s. I was thinking about the Diawa Wilderness, St. Croix Eyecon, or the Limit Creek. There is a significant difference in price between the Diawa and the other two rods (Wilderness is $30 and Eyecon is $140). Any opinions? I do want a good tip so I can see if the bait is running correctly. And I’m not the type of guy to go cheap with everything. I like good equipment that will last me years. Thanks!!
December 31, 2017 at 2:27 pm #1739996Thanks for all the replies thus far. I mainly fish the St. Croix and Northern MN lakes. I fish Canada too but don’t expect to troll much up there. So, I’d say I’ll primarily use it on the Croix. Depths would range from 15′-30′. I was hoping to not spend more than $150/set-up.
I see Cabela’s has their Depth Master combos on sale for $50! That seems really cheap but they get varied reviews. If I were to go this route would I get the 9′ with the size 30 reel? It says it’s a planer board set up but I imagine I could use it for lead.
Thanks for the help!
May 23, 2017 at 12:49 pm #1695602I have the same issue with my 858. I moved the 858 to the bow after I bought a new Helix. I hooked the 858 to the universal sonar and the depth reading is all over the place. It will read correctly then the next second it is 50′ off. I unhooked the universal sonar and mounted the original transducer for the 858 onto the bottom of the TM. It works fine. But, I don’t like dealing with the transducer cord and wish I could figure out the universal transducer.
April 12, 2017 at 8:13 pm #1688047I fished it today too and agree with Jeff. Keep moving and stay away from the crowds. We did much better away from the dam and crowds.
April 11, 2017 at 12:09 pm #1687721Contact Humminbird. They told me I would be able to network a new Helix 10 with my old 858. Humminbird has pretty good on-line chat help.
March 28, 2017 at 9:43 am #1684539PRICE REDUCED! I am selling the port for $190 and Ethernet cable for $40. That’s a savings of almost $100.
March 28, 2017 at 9:36 am #1684536Does the $130 price come with the reel? If so I’m interested. I work in St. Paul and could meet for pick up. Send me a PM.
March 17, 2017 at 12:46 pm #1682002I agree with some of the other replies….the Technological Angler has a lot of good info. I would also recommend doing the on-line live chat with Humminbird. My experience has been good with them. Maybe try to visit the Northwest Sports Show? Humminbird will have a big presence. Don’t depend on any of the local sporting good stores for knowledge. The last 3 I visited I discovered I knew more than they did about the Helix units.
I may have a 10′ cable and 5 port box for sale. PM me if interested.
March 10, 2017 at 8:21 am #1680201Whateverbites, that is the input I was looking for. I had not considered that my iPilot can take me directly to the waypoint that I marked from the dash-mounted Helix.
If anyone wants to buy a Humminbird Ethernet hub and 10′ Ethernet cable I’m going to be posting them in the classifieds.
March 9, 2017 at 3:13 pm #1680092Right. But, since I will be using an Ethernet connection from my iPilot trolling motor to the Helix 10 I need the Ethernet hub to connect the Helix to another unit.
February 8, 2017 at 9:48 am #1672292Thanks for all the great replies and input.
Does anyone have experience with networking a Helix with a 858 or similar series? I contacted Humminbird and they said it’s possible. The biggest reason I want to network is so I can mark a waypoint on my Helix at the counsel and it will share it on my 858 at the bow. I’m wondering if I need a networking hub or if I can just direct connect the units with an ethernet cable. I want to connect my Minnkota iPilot to my Helix too. Not sure if the Helix has multiple ethernet connections or if I need the hub.
February 7, 2017 at 12:31 pm #1671990Munchy is right. The Helix does have internal GPS receiver but you can choose to use an external puck instead. That’s part of what I’m trying to figure out…..if I get the external puck and then where do I mount it. I understand what gixxer is saying. I think I’ll install an external puck at the transom on the same side as the Helix transducer. Then, I’ll network my old 858 with the Helix and share waypoints between the two. I’ll probably also have to hire an IT technician to come with me while I fish just to make sure the system and networks are all working
