    I own 3 Vortex scopes and one pair of bino’s. Never had an issue.

    First hand experience.

    It appears some hunters have good experience with them and others not so much. Sounds like you are one of fortunate Vortex owners.

    Maybe it was done for training for teams (Search and Rescue, etc.) that do that kind of recovery.

    That is what was done on a lake near where I live when an angler with a camera unit just happened to lower his camera through the ice right on top of a snow machine that had been on the lake bottom for over 30 years.

    I would think having something like a hat attached to a landing net would create drag that could hinder netting efficiency.
