I would like to thank the Port of Call for a great tournament. This was my second time fishing this tournamnet and I have had a blast both times. They put on a great event. It also didn’t hurt that I caught my biggest walleye ever (a 29 inch 8.45 pound walleye) right away yesterday morning and then proceeded to have my best walleye day ever. I have never fished in a tournament when both my partner and I were throwing back 4 pound walleyes. Again thank you to the Port of Call and all the door prize sponsors.

    Skinnymark,

I saw this same situation this past Monday in the same area you were fishing. The only thing that worked were top water poppers. You had to wait until you see the fish hitting the top and then cast the popper right in the middle of the fish and then hold on. The fish were white bass and there were some pretty good sized ones at that. The White bass are still not rolling as much as they will in a couple of weeks though. Then the action should really pick up for the white bass in that area. We should get togethher soon with a tackle box full of poppers and have some fun.

I know I have caught many dandy smallmouths that would have been 20 plus inches on the root. I was by myself and even if I had a camera would not have been able to take a picture. That doesn’t matter though because I know the fish were big and were a thrill to catch. I have never fished for them in November however (usually too busy bowhunting) but I think I may give it a try this year. Buckiii

I grew up along the Root River so I have spent many, many hours walking the river and catching smallmouths. I still go to the Root several times a year to fish those smallies. Can’t think of better way to spend a day. I agree that this is a real treat. You can’t beat the scenery or the fishing. See ya on the Root. Buckiii
