Just a FYI on flood insurance. Some believe that you have to live in a designated Floodplain area to get flood insurance. That is NOT true. Anyone can purchase flood insurance. If you do live in a know designated Floodplain area and have a home mortgage, Most likely the Bank will require you to have flood insurance.

Thumper knows what he’s talking about here! (Must be a fellow insurance nerd.)

Not likely. You have to buy flood insurance specifically in order to cover flood damage. It’s going to be rough for several resorts up there. I am headed up this weekend. Crossing my fingers that things get better quickly!

I’ve had good luck with the Venom as well.

You can’t go wrong with any of the recommendations here, I have all three on my rods and they all perform really well. Check out which is on sale and go with that one.

I talked to Ben at Sandy Point and they are out there. Also, sounds like the rental shacks (day houses) are going out for some resorts.

No one should fish there though, it’s a terrible lake!! )

Thanks, I check those regularly. Also called a couple of resorts so i’ve got some info now. KabOutdoors and Gateway were a little behind this time.

I have a 32″ perch sweetheart that I really like for walleyes. I have a couple of other custom rods, but that is my go to for walleyes and perch.

I picked up the LX-6S last winter and have really liked it. It was a huge upgrade from the Humminbird Ice-35 that I had. I do a lot of hole hopping so the 6 just made more sense. We also usually run 3 6’s right next to each other and they play pretty well together so you don’t have that concern.

I’m still getting used to the graph mode but it’s been great to be able to see how the fish react to different jigging styles. It really helps to dial into what the fish actually want.

Thanks for the heads up. In 20+ years on the lake this feels like the second downswing in fishing that we have seen. If the water has warmed a bit I think that should help. It may be a good timet o witch up tactics on a lake that sees a lot of jigs and lindy rigs.

I am heading up tomorrow night and excited to get back to my “home” lake. It’s both good and bad that we don’t hear much about it here.

I was up last Friday and there was plenty of ice. There was probably 24″ on most of the places we stopped. We had plenty of perch to have the Dam Spot fry them up for dinner. Highly recommend it to anyone that hasn’t stopped in there before for a fish fry.

We decided not to fish farm and went out on the pond out of Hunter’s Point. We did well there with 10 fish for the day. All between 12-17″. We were in about 30-35 feet where we found the fish. We decided not to go to Farm Island becasue we weren’t as comfortable with fishing a lake we didnt’ know very well with the goofy weather this year.

I had an ICE 35 and loved it. Dual beam and zoom adjustable to anywhere on the face. The only reason I no longer have it is because I updated to the Marcum LX-6. I had no interference issues fishing next to Marcums or Vexilars.

We were on Mille Lacs on Sunday and my brother-in-law was doing amazing with the 1/8 oz red buckshot flutter. The eyes were crushing it.

    Allan,
Thanks for the reply! Picks, spud bar and rope will definitely be in use. We won’t be up until the 3rd so I am hoping for more cold too!!

It’s good to hear as much as possible on this unit. For the price it is very tempting but before I move over to digital I’d love to know more. I have the 35 that I really like so as tempting as making the switch is I am still on the fence.

If you haven’t watched any of his other stuff it’s definitely worth the time. He’s so excited about everything that it makes it hard not to enjoy!

I’ve seen them at both of the big shops. I’d imagine that Mill’s probably has them as well.

    Josh,

Looking forward to your report. My buddies and I are scheduled to be up there mid-January and are hoping for some solid ice!

    Thanks!

I used the silicone tape for the first time on my new rod. I really like the way it grabbed itself right away and held tight. Just stretch it out and it works great. I grabbed a 1″ by 20′ roll for about $6.

whats the difference between a 5i and a 5? I have an LX5 that is about 4 years old, im assuming that the 5i is something new?

to answer your question Trevor – I like the zoom a lot and the lines are very refined compared to vexilar. its more quiet than a vex. I disliked that it broke on its 3rd season and I had to send it to Marcum to repair but haven’t had any problems since getting it back

I talked to the Ice Force crew at the show. They were telling me that the guys of the LX-5i is the same as the old LX-5. The only changes are on the case with the screen showing different and small changes in the buttons.

Makes sense to me. I agree that it may not fit in well with the full show. It would be great to get the insight from you guys though! Thanks for even considering it!

Big Buddy with a 20# tank has never let us down in either a non-insulated or insulated house. In a flip over it is usually more than enough and in a hub insulated it gets the job done without a problem as well.

I picked up an otter rod case for $75 instead of the normal $100. I also saw the Lx-6s going for $510 and 7’s for $550.

I talked to a guide I have used quite a bit and he was saying Winjie was great all summer and will be doing a lot there this winter. He expects the bite to be great. I agree, run an gun and keep on the school when you find it.
