Thanks guys. I’m definitely going to try some this year. My thoughts are to have a tungsten about 12″ up from just a plain hook fly. This way the plain hook will slowly flutter and sink to the bottom more lifelike.

I live right by the DSM but not near any large dams. Do you fish moving current or do you have to find a hole w/o current? How deep of water are you fishing? I’d like to try it but have always wondered about the current and how safe the ice is.

Thanks for the report Kurt. What is the crappie limit up there? Hopefully we’ll be able to find the perch when we go up in 2 weekends.

Thanks Nick we’ll have to give it a try. How big/deep is this lake? Do you go through Lily to the West and hit a T intersection and the lake is right there? Gonna fish brushy tomorrow. You gonna be around?

Fished Brushy last night. Caught 2 nice crappies, 1 big gill and a perch in 20 fow. Then moved to 30 and caught a dink eye and a 17″ eye. Pretty decent night of fishing. Hopefully they leave some fish in there after the Tourny today! I’m sittin at work

Good job on the fishing Nick. I saw you putting your perm on the lake around 11:00. That was me coming off the lake in the black F-150 (same truck that was at cornelia with you and John). We fished the road bed to the South about 5 or 600 yards. Marked some and had bites but no takers. Are you going to be out Friday at all? If you need a partner let me know!

I’ll be towing it by hand for now. I don’t like my pop up now because of the time it takes for set up and moving around. I have seen reviews that the Frabill pulls on 2 skies where the QF is a flat bottom and pulls harder.

I think I’m gonna go with the Trekker. I’ve heard nothing but good about the the MSS seating. It’s also 6 inches longer and $70 cheaper than the guide. Can’t wait to get out of this time consuming pop up!

This past spring is put around 10 or so fabric softener sheets in mine as well as 3 car air freshner trees. I had the shack in the garage where I know there are mice, and never had a problem at all. Wish I would have done the same for my previous shack

We aren’t strickly Perchin’ but are targeting them. We usually catch a handful of eyes and a few northerns as well in the Waubay area. I’ve heard good reports for perch on Roy lake and Lily Lake. Roy is easy to find but I can’t find Lily on the map. Found the town just not the lake. Anyone know where that’s at? We’ve decided to go to Waubay the first weekend in February.

I have the same problem with mine. A lot of days it is just way too hot. What I have ended up doing is getting a mr. buddy heater for those warmer days. It seems like this one’s high isn’t anywhere near the cooker’s low. The spring in the turning knob just wont let you go any lower. I have held the knob at a lower position and it works fine, but once you release it it springs to off. Not sure how to modify it.

Where exactly is BlackDuck? How big is it?

Thats why we weren’t really wanting to go back there because of the pressure Waubay gets, but we know the area pretty well. This year we’ll try to hit the surrounding lakes harder and give them a try.

I think we’re planning an early-mid February trip. We’ll call around to local bait shops before booking anything, but are definitly going to get after some constant fish. Are they doing well right now on the eyes or in years past they have? Or is this the refuge’s year?

I don’t beleive we have fished the refuge. Where is that located? Good lake?

Ted, is Roy Lake about 20 miles North of Waubay? Might be worth going out that direction again to be able to hit some new areas and fall back on some old areas if we have to.

Thanks Big G. I’ve never fished Mille Lacs, but know some that have had good luck on it. To be honest the size is a bit intimidating coming from 200-300 acre lakes in Iowa, but I’ll definitly look into it.
