My favorite opening day prestation is a jig & minnow followed by a nice Blade Bait on my 6.6 Limit Creek.

I used to live there in miami. There is a place there called halover beach. I have a cousin that captains a boat called the popeye. His name is Kenny. They do drift fish over reefs, snapper,Grouper,Yellow tail,Mackerl,King fish,Amber jack, Shark. You never know what your going to get on a drift. Look up the boat, its a pretty good trip. Its been a while since I went there but it used to be around $30.00. Hope this helps.Brian

Thats some great information you gave us. I have to say, it sounds like the same exact log as I use as far as details for each time I go to a certain spot. Use a log, its the best way to learn the river. Write all the details of that day and what took place to catch that fish. Depth, color, speed, location, weather, time of day, whatever you think was important and the next time you go out to that same spot give it a try again. I also think its smart idea if you have never fished the river and you want to get educated fast, hire a guide like Turk. The leasons that you can learn in one day will make a big difference in your fishing experience. I think once you learn the river you will be hooked. The river is a great fishery. Learn it and enjoy it.
P.S Buy a St. Croix Fishing Hot Spot map and work some of those locations. Thats a great start.
Good job Comanchero
BrianHave a good fishing day !!!

We still have reef runners and yes,we are still running a special. We are keeping them stocked up for guys like you. I will tell you what, I think we have every color you could imagine. As far as the Mr. Whiskers…Well, I hear tale of them still being caught. Some right off catfish point in afton. From the beach right into the deep drop off there. I also here a lot about the sturgeon. Its seems like they must be everywhere. I have people in the shop everyday comming in saying they are catching nice sturgeon, even by accident, While looking for other fish. The river is really on. Get out and enjoy it.Have a good fish day
BrianOctober 4, 2006 at 5:48 pm #485627Hey score
There is a dnr launch known as the boom site. It’s free. Its very shallow be careful. I use Beannies at 94 bridge which is $9.00 mon-thur and $15.00 Fri-Sun. I also use the beach house marina in bayport. They are $10.00 Mon-Thur and $20.00 Fri-Sun or $10.00 if you put in before 9:00 am Both are great marina’s. The fishing on the river is always outstanding. Hope this helps.Brian

I use the Chartreuse color tip with a fat head minnow. I have a lot of luck with them on the walleye’s and Saugers and I fish the St. Croix most of the time. They work. Its just another great tool to keep in the tackle box.
Good luck

What a great time out there. I was told their was 108 boats registered and they raised $3100.00 for the St. Croix Valley Youth Service. lots of nice looking fished weighed in. No stugeon weighed in, but some really nice looking cats came in. This was a lot of fun and my first time at a River Rat tourney. What a blast. Had a great time and thanks to all the people that help set it up and to Beannies for the giant tarp we sat under from the pouring rain. It was a perfect day of weather right up to the time we hit the dock for weigh-in. Then the skys openned up for the rest of the day.

May 30, 2006 at 2:20 am #450067Hey Grouse
Havent heard anything on the trout. This is what I do know. There are some real nice Sunnies and a few crappies being taken out of there. Just head out to the other side of the lake, opposite of the launch for the Sunnies. use crawlers in about 8 to 12 fow. The Crappies that have been found are also in 8 to 12 fow but they are using crappie minnows. Im sorry about the trout info. If I can get the info. I will pass it on. I do know they are in there. I did get my fair share this winter on a jig and waxies in 15 fow about 2 feet from bottom. Thats all I have for now. Good luck and have a blast with your son.
Good fishing

February 21, 2006 at 12:59 pm #422640Hey Brian
I was out three weeks ago, the ice was about 7 inches and I would imagine ice now, is well over a foot. The trout were in 15ft of water. Using a white jig and spikes. I pulled a 14 and a 15 inch rainbow out. Maybe lucky. Other than that it was real slow for me. I did run into a couple of people that told me that the north end shore they were getting some nice gills and they weren’t all square. (The fish. Not the people.) see ya.

Was out there about two weeks ago. The trout were active in about 15 ft of water. Use a white jig and spikes. That should do you.
