Redneck: I live in Chatfield MN, but have been fishing the missouri river for eleven years, we used to go three or four times a year. With the price of gas and a little boy around now twice a year is about all I can get away with. I learn something new each time I go. To answer your question yes a guide is helpful, nessasary no. The river can be a little tricky to navigate the river channel is not marked like the mississipi, but with the new chips for the gps it will show you the way. I stay at the Golden Buffalo Resort and Casino it is on the Brule reservation. The rooms are cheap, clean and close to where I like to fish. My favorite spot is Iron Nation Boat ramp where the Medicne Creek enters Lake Sharpe. If you would like more info .P.M me and I will get in touch with you. Good luck brian a
