If shallow doesn’t work, I would look at any one of those fingers that jut out into deeper water. Start shallow and work your way out and around them.

I broke a pole in my hub hunting blind. I ended up buying a fiberglass driveway marker pole from Menards and cut that to fit. They are about the same diameter. I did this a couple of years ago and it has been working great since.
