I will be out checkin some spots tomorrow, how much ice are you guys findin. Ill be checking west arm on medicine and couple bays on tonka. Any word on thickness out that way? There was a guy out on med today I seen on hartys webcam.
I was on carson’s bay yesterday and seen a guy leave from his house on an ice car and head towaords the main lake. About 20min later the fire dept showed up with the hovercraft. They went out picked him up and brought him back to his house without his ice car. I’m glad he made it out ok. With all the standing water on the ice yesterday I wish I had a 10′ jon boat with ice cleats on the paddles to fish from.

BrandonJ, just so you know, the district does not raise your dental and medical costs, the insurance companies do.
In my case the insurance costs in total didn’t change(yet). Just my portion, along with my pay freeze, along with alot of other out sourcing through out the district. Contract BS. But hey everything is just peachy its almost ice season and maybe I’ll get laid off for the winter. Last year the district hired what they call a business consultant or what I call the eliminator but I must admit she is pretty easy on the eyes. The only good thing that I know she has done is put up stickers above every light switch and I mean every one, that say to turn the lights off. Must have taken a week. BTW voter turn out at the school I work was actually pretty good. The first question was voted yes, and the second question was not suprisingly the big no.
I work for a school district and I must admit all the levy talks bother me aswell. As of july 1st my paychecks have been 175$ shorter than what they used to be due to the district raising what I pay for medical and dental. I’m a big boy so have went out there and more than made up for what I’m out. Everyday I wonder what program or activity will get cut out of the budget. Another thing that bothers me is how many people show up for the school board or levy meetings. I volunteered a couple weeks back to set up 300 chairs and help people get to where the meeting was being held(very large school). Didn’t do to much helping since a total of two people showed up. I was laughing the whole time that we were taking the chairs down. I’m a believer that no matter how much money the schools get they will spend it, and where they cut it they will spend elsewhere. But as much as we all wonder where all the money is going, save your opinions and thoughts for the place where they will actually matter.
Ouch! lowblow

I was out sunday morning on a south metro lake and caught 6. Biggest being 18.5. Worked the outside weedline with jigs as this is where we have been getting some real nice bass, but not much happening. Most of the fish came out of the pads froggin. Hopefully next time im out I get on some bigger fish.
Good thing the fish police didnt check that infested boat $$$$ that thing is huge for p4
They are all over the native mussels and our dock on the north end. Ive cut my foot a few times swimmin with the kid, they’re sharp as a razor blade. Hopefully we can keep other invasive species out.

I’ve had success using a small amount of dry dog food for bait. As far as trap placement, put it where you see a lot of minnows. Typically shallow water near shore where you see schools swim by or near docks.
X2 I put mine near a dock or downed tree on the mostly windy side of whatever body of water I’m on. Dog food works great.
Ive felt like crackin a couple guys upside the head with the hiber-net myself. I feel your pain, I had a launch sneak up behind me last weekend. Never seen so many people get so exited over a tiny walleye.
Looks like a big piece of firewood painted like a fish to me. But it beats my biggest.

A leach and lindy rig would be hard to explain to a DNR officer
I was thinking the same thing. I think I’ll wait a couple more days
This happens to me all the time as well. Crank up the tunes and put on some lil jon or snoop doggy dogg and they dont last long. I used to be the one that moved, not any more those days are over. Plus Im pretty easy to deal with if they just ask whats biting and if I dont mind that they hang out for a while. I feel your pain but I dont see fishing etiquite ever getting better.
My bad heres the new list. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/areas/fisheries/westmetro/index.html
These lakes were opened to liberalized fishing and probably faced some winterkill. But these can still be a good place to get some catfish bait. http://news.dnr.state.mn.us/index.php/2010/02/26/winterkill-conditions-open-lakes-to-liberalized-fishing/
My H2Oc is getting up there in age also it doesn’t pick up my location like it used to. I always have to go into GPS setup after hitting menu twice. Then go to initialize GPS and move the crosshairs near your location and press enter. This is about the only way to get my location. Ive dropped it quite a few times so im not suprised. Try that out hope it helps. I also give Lowrance customer service a 1 out of 10. The 1 is for answering the phone.
I was out there tonight and there was trucks drivin around the west side. Still to iffy for me so I parked on the ice near shore. 8in of good ice with 3 to 4in white crap on top of that where I was at. Travel is great all the snow has been knocked down.
Thought it was illegal to cook fish “ON” the water. I could be wrong. Maybe if you still have the carcasas youre ok.
Thanks for keepin us posted ill be at the cabin this week end. Do you have a restaraunt at the red door and what are the hours?
The FW told me DONT COOK THAT IN THE HOUSE! But she’s out shoppin so her vote dont count. I better watch for flying objects when she does get home.
