How has the bite been out there recently? I’m planning to go out on Mille lacs for the first time in a couple days. Any particular patterns/ areas of the lake work better than others this time of the year?

What does everyone have for bobber rod suggestions? I just got done with a trip to lake of the woods and now realize I need to upgrade my bobber rod. Any suggestions for rods that work well with bobbers? Price is not a concern.

Why do you think you need to upgrade? Did you have enough backbone for the fish you were targeting? Or what do you want different from your current set-up?

Francisco, I noticed I was losing quite a few fish because the rod I use for my bobber now always seems to “buck” when I’m reeling my fish in which does not allow for constant tension to be applied to the fish. That is why I believe it is worth it to upgrade to a quality rod so you can avoid this from happening. The rod I have now is a pretty cheap one.

Thanks for the info! Is there quite a bit of snow up on the lake? Do you think a guy would still be fine with an ATV?

Has anyone been taking half ton trucks out of the public accesses anywhere? Looking to head up there with some buddies this weekend and would rather not walk out if we don’t have to. )

Thanks for the input guys. I ran to cabelas today to stock up on some slow death crawler hooks and gold spinners. I’ll be up there Thursday-Sunday so hopefully I’ll have a nice report for you all.

It was really slow. Only ended up with 4 combined walleyes and saugers. It was hard for us to troll the spots we wanted to with the large crowds. I’m guessing it’s like that on Pepin just about every weekend.

I was running 3.0-3.2mph up river.

Did well at the foot of the lake. 3 to 3.5 up stream down. Down Stream was 4 plus. What a HOOT when they hit at those speeds.!!

Any particular depth work better than others?

Thanks for the advice guys. Weather looks to be nice Saturday so I shouldn’t have to worry about the wind.

I can’t speak for Rainy as I have never been there, but Devils can definitely be intimidating if you’ve never fished it. It’s essentially 6 lakes in one (East Devils Lake, Black Tiger Bay, East Bay, Main Bay, West Bay and Pelican Lake) and this isn’t including the feeder lakes or Stump Lake. This is a lot of water to dissect but at the same time, it usually means fish are biting somewhere in the system. It’s the most fun lake to fish in my opinion due to the different structure it presents you with (sunken road beds, old shorelines, sunken trees, etc.)
