No one cares about ice fishing now. Ready for open water. This has gone on way to long.
That it goes fast…. because the end means we are that much closer to spring fishing here in mn . However I do love the show.
Who seriously cares about gopher hockey. They are not even a top 4 hockey team in Minnesota.
Same old story here as stated before Duluth is the number 1 Hockey team in Minnesota and it’s not even close.
Born and raised here in Minnesota. One thing I hate about living here is the winter. Would be perfectly happy I’ve I never saw ice or snow again. Hopefully global warming keeps doing its job making Minnesota winters shorter and shorter. I’m sorry but just cant figure out why a guy would have fun starring down a 8 inch hole for hours and hours. I’ll take open water any day of the week. Plus I seem to find more yahoo’s ice fishing just because its easier to do because you don’t have to have a boat. I still ice fish but i just do it to pass time in the winter. I really don’t enjoy it at all. Cant wait to start seeing the cigarette buds and beer cans and trash all of there ice again.
Yikes, cost of new SHO is $20.250.00
Here is a 2006 225 etec at nelson marine for $10,500
Any update on what people think about the 400 tranx after using one?
Low 400 low gear ratio is amazing for slow rolling big blades.
Oh… I meant Yamaha.
How does that help the guy out by making a joke about going to a yamaha. I would be pissed if I just blew up my motor. No time for jokes. And I’m guessing re-powering with a Yamaha 225 will cost him about 17K-18K. If he has the option to purchase a refurbished 225 etec powerheard for 4k I would do that. These usually carry a 1-2 year warranty.
I would have comments on two parts of this discussion. From my own experience with the Verado I would not recommend one. When I purchased the 200hp Verado it would have represented what I thought was going to be the most advanced, best motor I would have owned to date. It has been anything but. Several small items, that ruined fishing weekends and a couple major items, with the last one ruining my annual fishing week with my two sons and our last month of fishing and or boating, as apparently parts are perpetually out of stock. Of 5 people I know well wit Verado’s 3 are as I have described two all ok. I also have several friends running E-Tec and not one has ever had an issue.
I might archive your comment on being the first person I’ve ever seen negatively comment about a VROD post 06-07’s . 2 best motors on the market and its not even close are VROD and Yammie’s.
What graphs do you use? My Garmins have it mapped pretty darn well.

Do you fish Sab or the angle?I typically fish from Sab all the way to the angle this time of year, but on this trip I will be staying at Crawfords Camp in Sioux Narrows, so i’ll be fishing Yellow girl to Big Narrows and North. I’m sure ill spend a little bit of time in Whitefish Bay as well.
To your knowledge do any chips chart out BN, not just the channels.
I’m headed up for a nice stint starting this weekend. Sounds like the fish are biting! I should have a good report when I return!
Pat,
Do you fish Sab or the angle?
Pat, I’m curious how your trip goes. I will be heading up to fish the angle starting July 6th for a week. From what I’ve read water temps are still in the low to mid 60’s. Hoping by the time we get there that the fish have transitioned to main lake rock reefs. Wish you the best of luck. Looking forward to your report.
I was looking at the warranty. I have a yamaha 150 now and have never had an issue. But the ease of winterization and an 8 year warranty is very tempting.
Its ultimately your choice but why go away from something you never had a problem with.
Looking at ordering an 1875 impact with a 150 e-tec in it. It will also have a 9.9 kicker. Is anyone running one that could give me some information on prop, performance and overall how they like it?
If you have your choice of motors I would rather go with any other motor manufacture then an e-tec IMO. Cant go wrong with either a yammy or merc 4 stroke.
It will be rocking on the ESE side. Honestly I would try and stick to fishing the WNW side of the lake. You shouldn’t have to go that far out to catch fish. That lake can get nasty real quick.
I signed the first one that went around, any of you that did,did you get bombarded with government mailings or spam mail??
I sure did, kind of hesitant signing another one if I have to put up with that stuff.
There is a box you can un-check if you do not want to receive those types of emails.
What year? I had an 07 619 with 225 yammy. Cannot say enough good things about that setup.
I have used nothing but Denver rigs when trolling P4 the last few years. Ever since I found out about them here on IDO. Granted I only go there a couple times per summer at best but I cant imagine a better setup for trolling there and catching fish. I’ll be ready to get down there come July.

What the heck is Dean doing in a Ranger. HAHA!
Out of curiosity, where were you fishing, what techniques, and what species were you targeting?
I was out there 5/24 and did alright hitting nice sized crappies off the northwest point of the long skinny island. Also found some small perch on jigging raps north of the line of hazard buoys. There were plenty of good weed-edge spots at that time, though I’m sure the weeds have grown up and out considerably in the last couple of weeks. I fished it for the first time 2 years ago, so I don’t really have a point of reference for what it was like further back.
My thought is that the fish are still there, and they’re still feeding. But we may beed to adjust the approach. (For example, trolling cranks is probably gonna be tough sledding?)
It’s a conundrum — we’ve got one thread decrying the use of “aquacides” by lake-front home owners and claiming that it turns the fish off completely; and then this thread wondering why those same home owners aren’t doing more to kill off those pesky weeds. I certainly don’t have the answers.
Here’s an interesting read on Bald Eagle water quality efforts. The quote that caught my eye was: “‘Prior to the projects, the water clarity was often as low as 2 to 3 feet by late June and the weed line only extended out to 6 to 7 feet of water depth,’ said the Bald Eagle homeowner. ‘After the 2016 application, Secchi disc readings of up to 12 feet were recorded most of the summer and the weed line was out to 12 feet of water depth.’”
I was fishing for walleyes. The past few years I typically fish that lake 1-2X a weeks so I feel like I know the lake really well. Crappie are easy to find in that lake but the size is terrible. Basically the whole northern side of the lake is weeded out. And the lake has changed drastically from 2 weeks ago with this heat that we have gotten. Whats crazy to think is with the amount of rain we got earlier that you would think that it wouldn’t be as bad as it is right now but I was sure wrong. Most of the weeds that are up right know is curly leaf pond weed which I know dies off relatively quickly. I guess I just never remember being this bad this early.
Nitrate and nutrient runoff is a massive problem in the metro area. I struggle to name a single lake that’s not significantly more weedy now than it was even 5 years ago.
If that’s the case its scary to see kids swimming and water skiing, being exposed to that stuff.

Well what the heck, is the Lowrance SI just better then. What about sensitivity and contrast in shallow water. What do people have it set at?
Just a friendly reminder musky fishing is not open.
Personally I would recommend targeting pike on a none musky lake.
I always get a kick out of those guys who I see throwing cowgirls and big rubber “targeting pike” who are clearly musky fisherman who cant wait for opener like the rest of us have to.
Pike and musky should open on the same date IMO.
Just a question, how far do you guys drive from the metro to your crappie lake ? I’ve been only catching 10-11″ crappies and would like to hammer some slabs. I’m a cnr guy and only keep fishing after the spawn. If you guys don’t mind sharing some lakes or private message instead. Thanks.
People spend years trying to find metro gems with big crappies in them. It’s like asking a gold minor where he finds all of his gold. Best advice is to start looking at MN lake finder and see what lakes have good size and fish them.
Good luck.

caught 10 eyes, Only one of the eyes was a keeper. That has been my ‘ratio the past two weeks and it is starting to pizz me off, even though I run from little fish in search of bigger.. I’m not having much luck changing that dink to Eater ratio. I get no enjoyment pulling up Littles
That’s because a lot of the bigger females are post spawn. They are hanging out suspended over deeper, soft bottom areas. Had a buddy last week catch a 29 on the croix suspended over 35ft of water with a handful of other 20+ inch fish.
MnDOT to close eastbound Interstate 94 near the 610 exchange this Friday from 8pm until 5am Monday morning. Opening of fishing and Mothers Day weekend. Makes you go Hmmmmm………
God nothing ticks me off more then road construction in the summer. Just a nightmare. Yeah great time to have road closures during one of the busiest time of the year heading north. MnDot could not be stupider or they just enjoy making peoples lives a living hell…..
