Heard the sheels case is a tight fit due to the depth and spinning reels will have to be folded to fit.
I use a hard/soft sided case from Cabelas and made rod tubes out of fluorescent tube holder’s for my 38″ rods and cut a slot for the reel to fit.
Still looking for a case to hold all that isn’t a boat load of $$$

Agree that the Lakeside park is the best access on the WI side. Before trucks are out I drive down to the water and unload and then park up the hill. Cant wait to hit the river again!

We had a decent weekend. Boated about 20 eyes and 1 smallie. We trolled a reef off indian point and found some 23″-25″ fish along with some 16″-18″. Leaches were the trick with no spinner. Got out fished 5-1 with a spinner so naturally had to go “naked” rigging and it worked!
Sunday morning was fast and furious until the wind picked up then it was a struggle to keep on a line.
Had great time fishing with the old man and had decent weather considering how that lake can get!

Mine did the same thing least season, and they wouldnt warranty it. Bought the clam plate this year and i love it. Lots less torque and saved my already destroyed shoulders!

Love my tickle sticks and widow makers. The snitch is also a good rod for the money. Have caught my biggest pike through the ice (only 28″) on a ul tickle stick last year. The widow maker with flat tip is my favorite for panfish. Hoping they come out with a med. tickle stick next year.

This will be my second year with my helix 7. I pull my SI unit off my boat and bought the soft pack and ice ducer for it and love it. To be able to have gps/mapping along with sonar all in one unit vs having to use your phone or other device is key for me. I haven’t used a traditional flasher for years now and only use the 2D.

If you are on Facebook check out Tom Boley fishing. He does reports/tips quite frequently from that area. He does youtube videos as well. Worth the look!

I pull my helix 7si off my boat and bought the soft pack and ice ducer. Bought the si unit so i can use it in my kayak as well as my canada fly in trip. The bigger screen is really nice and crisp. To be able to save waypoints from open water and go back to them during ice is key.

My go to panfish rod is 13 Fishing Tickle Stick in 27″ UL. The built in strike indicator is sensitive enough to detect the upbite of crappies, and has a strong enough back bone to battle pike. Landed a 28″ on it last year. I pared it with a free fall ghost and have an awesome light combo.

Had my rotator scoped out 3 years in January. Was back at my ice fishing league in 3 weeks. Wasn’t without pain but managed. Had to use my weaker arm for setting the hook and kept my dominant arm close to my chest to reel. Made it work, but was far from efficient and very clumsy. I would suggest waiting till perms are on the ice and go with friends.

I picked up the Heix 7 chirp SI for my boat, then got the ice pack with ice ducer. Dual use for me was key, as i could mark spots during open water and then go back to those spots during hard water.
I theory you can use the open water transducer for ice (ive seen some elaborate set ups) but the SI is useless unless it is moving, but the DI function is good around structure, i.e. cribs/brush piles and such.

@Jamin yeah i am having trouble justifying the price tag myself. I do have the one you mentioned, but still find that they get tangled up a bit with how many i take along and still have to break down my spinning reels to get em in there. Yeah im a picky lil s.o.b.

The croix has been a good spot for me. Cedar gets LOTS of pressure as does Bass. Pine has nice pike and numbers of crappie, but not real big one since it does get a decent amount of pressure. Pine also has an aerator and i almost found a spring the hard way. Polk county has more lakes if you are willing to drive about an hour or so. Wapo is a good one, big round/church pine, balsam can produce nice gills too.
Im in NR and always looking for another ice partner!

Looking to rent a shack for the weekend. My dad and his buddy have never ice fished and i only have a one man portable. Id probably do some hole hopping while they stay in the shack.

If you are wanting an “all in 1” option, i would go with the helix. I don’t use the flasher mode on mine but rather the same view id use in open water. The gps feature is great because you dont have to have another piece of equipment on the ice to loose down a hole. The helix does have a zoom feature as well on the open water view. In that view i can see my cadence of my jig a lot better than on a flasher.
    Just my 2 cents.

Would like to see more emphasis on technique and lure selection as well as what structure you are looking for along with a visual of a map of said structure.

If you are a MN resident with a MN license you HAVE to follow MN regulations.
    WISCONSIN–MINNESOTA Regulations:

Two lines with a single lure or bait on each are permitted. If fishing with one line, you may use
    two baits.

Took that from the reg book.
If you buy a WI license you can use 3.
    Check the books!!
