Id recommend either a Basskhang shuttle or the Tacti Grip shuttle. You would need the PC 11 Power cord, you can get clips at a hardware store or online to use with battery. I use the amped outdoors lithium batteries on mine. I have also thrown one onto the marcum lithium shuttle (about $230 with battery). With the marcum you just need the power adapter and a ram mount. I have been 3D printing my own accessories, like rod holders, tackle holders that will hold the tackle boxes from my scheels case. Have fun with it!
I have Gen 1 and the newer ones. I use my phone. They work great. They do make the receiver to use as well, or it will also extend the range. The new ones have a longer range, you can set the degree at which the alarm is triggered. So they work for tip ups or tip downs. They also make adapters for finicky foolers. They recently did an update that has improved them even more. You can also set the color scheme on each one, so I can determine exactly which one is which and where they are. My kids also enjoy playing with the different alarm sounds on my phone. Overall a great product that they keep improving.
I use mine off and on. If its crazy windy, I find myself bringing along the shack. Also if my kids are coming with, they like to have the option. Otherwise I pack up my sled and drag my gear out and just kneel on the ice and fish. I find some of the crazy cold days have made for some good fishing.
MN DNR CO told me you follow the rules of the STATE you are fishing in. If you are MN Resident and have MN license you can fish 3 lines on WI side, summer or winter. Same with WI license on MN side, can only use 2 lines. Non-resident same rules apply. If you have both a MN and WI license you still follow which side you are fishing on, not the license. I talked to my CO on the phone and he sent me an email with it.
Most of the walleyes I caught on W. Rush were over by Cigar Island. Fishing the backside has a deeper hole and a rock pile nearby. Fishing all around that area has produced some good sized eyes for me in the past. Haven’t made it out there yet this year. Generally the rock piles and other structure points are where most people start.
Avoid cotton, it just absorbs the moisture and you will get colder. Synthetic is the way to go. Try a wicker sock with your boots. I also wear wool or some type of synthetic blend that will help. You could also take more time to get to your spot, so you don’t get as sweaty.
What you are looking for is the Rapala Double Barrel rod bag. I now own 2 of them. They can handle a decent amount of rods, just slide them in. They have PVC in the tubes to protect the rods and they also have 2 storage bags on the sides. I can carry by the handle or adjust the strap and throw over my shoulder.
I use mason line on almost all of my tip ups. I do use a fluorocarbon leader as well. I haven’t lost any fish due to the mason line and the stretch. The only complaint I have is that it freezes down to the ice in the -temps. Most line will freeze a little to the ice after being in the water. I am always able to get it up from the ice, just have to pull harder.
