Seriously guys. Cannot appreciate the advice enough. This is why I joined IDO. Everyone is so willing to help. And you don’t have to worry about some smart*** replies that you see on other pages. Maybe I will get into building my own rods.

I can usually swing $50 for the rod alone and another $50 for the real. I’m just not sure I can justify spending that much on just the rod. I mean I would imagine they are awesome rods. But are they really that good? I mean if it’s something that is truly out of this world and I need to try it to believe it, alright. But if I can find something of comparable quality for a smaller price that would be great. I like my Fenwick rods that I have, with my pflueger reels. Just looking for some thing else.

Really not picky. I like catching big fish, I like catching a lot of fish, and I like eating fish. Would be nice for a once in a lifetime fish. And I’ve never caught a lake trout. So that narrows it down to just about anything

I just bought a kdrill and man. I will never own another auger. That thing is just slick. My buddies all looked at me crazy when I showed up with my little “plastic” auger and drill. Cuts through ice faster, at a like a quarter of the weight. I have a smaller cheaper DeWalt 20v and it works just fine. Just a warning though, the kdrill does make a lot of snow with that chipper blade. But it’s actually really awesome at reopening holes. I’ve actually re-drilled through 6 inch frozen over holes with my 8 inch kdrill. I can not say enough good things about the k drill. Probably another one of the pluses while in the wheel house, you don’t have to worry about working in close quarters with it. It’s a breeze drilling right up against walls. Sorry for the novel. Rant over

My uncle told me something a whole lot of years ago that has always stuck with me. When setting a dead stick or tip up, do a beer can or double stack off the bottom. Has never failed me.

My grandpa made me this stool you can put put on top of your bucket. I’ll see if I can snap a pic of it next time I’m out. But it sits up like 3 or 4 inches above your regular bucket lip. And he even padded it with carpet padding and some remnant carpet. He tried selling em for awhile but never made any money off of em. That’s what I use
