Looks like it was a barn burner with Shakoppe vs Stillwater. Shakopee won 27-26 due to a 1 pt deduction on Stillwater for unsportsmanlike conduct. Stillwater would have won on criteria by winning 7 matches to Shakopee’s 6. As Frank the Tank says “You’ve got to keep your composure!”.

Team wrestling presents some pretty big mismatches. You can easily get a top ranked wrestler in the state wrestling a kid 2 years younger who is a .500 wrestler and the “weakest link” on their own roster. Team state is cool to watch, but the atmosphere at the individual state tournament after you get a round or 2 in is definitely more intense.

I was a basketball player through and through but have developed a pretty big appreciation for wrestling after the fact. I lived with some wrestlers at SCSU who were dogs (in a good way). They were the best guys to hangout with at bar close if any arguments ever popped up.

No doubt there are differences in skill level and the 2nd round had fewer pins, but still quite a few 1st period falls and more than I remember as a wrestler.

It was great when they used to have team and individuals at the same time. Teams on the corner mats, individuals in the middle, and loved to see how many more fans the A and AA teams would have than the AAA teams.

I haven’t followed HS wrestling for a number of years now, but looking at the results from the first round of team today I see a ton of pins and tech falls. I understand the increase in TF with the new 3 pt TD and 4 pt NF. But the amount of pins is crazy to me. In the first round of all three classes I counted 71 total pins over 156 matches, that’s 45.5% of matches that ended in a pin. Of those 71 pins 49 of them were in the first period. Only 4 total were in the 3rd period.

I asked my brother about this as he’s a wrestling coach and he said so many kids just give up once they get on their backs and don’t fight.

I didn’t see if it was mentioned that live coverage would ONLY be on Roku and not online at all. Either way, the Roku channel is free and no subscription is needed. You can get a Roku device for $20.

Its literally three posts up. Has all the expenditures, the goals, information on what expectations will be, definitions of modernization. You quoted his post. Never mind this isn’t going to work out, go see HR. Oh my bad its a quote of the link that was provided 5 posts up so its on here twice.

I’ll wait…..for you to print out the 58 page document and hand deliver it to me. Until then I’ll continue with wild assumptions and keep shaking my fists at clouds.

I see a ton of stunted <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>pike up north. Seems like almost every lake up here has an unhealthy number of small pike.

There’s a reason the daily bag limit of <em class=”ido-tag-em”>pike is 10 in most of the state. There are way too many stunted populations of them in a lot of lakes. Unfortunately, it seems most anglers really have no interest in harvesting small pike. Everyone wants walleyes or panfish.

Harvest of big pike has contributed to this problem. In many smaller lakes, the top predators are sizable northern pike (absent of muskies). Big <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>pike eat small pike. Without that balance, there is nothing keeping snot rockets in check. Then you have the DNR trying to stock <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>walleye fry or fingerlings and they all get gobbled right up by the over population of northern pike.

I <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>bass fish a lot and many of the smaller lakes where I target largemouth, this problem is so obvious. Not uncommon to catch 20, maybe 30 of them in just a few hours mixed right in with the bass. This isn’t a new problem either, been going on for at least a decade now. Doesn’t really seem to be getting any better either.

Gim, after years of you always bringing this up and complaining about the pike, maybe this is the year that you will keep some?

New worst team in the NFC, and I don’t feel one bit sorry either.

Most recent NFC Championship Game appearance (season)

    Washington Commanders – 2024
    San Francisco 49ers – 2023
    Detroit Lions – 2023
    Phildelphia Eagles – 2022
    Los Angeles Rams – 2021
    Green Bay Packers – 2020
    Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 2020
    New Orleans Saints – 2018
    Minnesota Vikings – 2017
    Atlanta Falcons – 2016
    Seattle Seahawks – 2014
    New York Giants – 2011
    Chicago Bears – 2010
    Arizona Cardinals – 2008
    Carolina Panthers – 2005
    Dallas Cowboys – 1995
To make matters even worse for Cowboys fans, their team’s most recent appearance in the NFC Championship Game came a full decade before the next “worst” team, the Carolina Panthers.

It’s actually more than a full decade. The next worse team is Chicago Bears in 2010 season. Arizona and Carolina faced off in the NFC championship in the 2015 season, with Carolina winning and then losing to Denver in the SB.

8 of their wins were by less than one score. They are a .500 team that caught some lucky breaks.

I don’t necessarily disagree that the Vikings got some breaks, but in the whole league about 75% of the games are one score games. 11 of the Chiefs’ 15 wins are one score games. Does that make them a .500 team that simply caught some lucky breaks? Good teams win the close games and while they may look like lucky breaks, good teams will create pressure and make plays that turn out to be the breaks they need to win.

Let me put it in BP’s % where I see things sitting right now.

The Bears have a 10 to 15% chance of beating the Vikes

And the Bears have 35% to 40% chance of beating the Lions at home

If they give their all in a losing attempt to beat the Vikes, then the % fall to 20 to 25% to beat the Lions. If they beat the Vikes they fall to 25 to 35% to beat the Lions. Really laying it on the line against the Vikes is wasting valuable ammunition. Throwing good money after bad. It’s strategic stupidity. You come to MN, go through the motions, and live to fight on the day when the odds are more favorable to your squad. The Lions are more vulnerable than the Vikings right now. It’s obvious. If they are smart they will lean into where their chances are best. That is my argument and it is sound.

Does this logic only work for bad teams or can it work for good teams too? Since the Vikings have 85-90% chance to beat the Bears, if they don’t give it their all and their percentage drops to only 75-80% against the Bears, but increases their odds by giving their all against Seattle next week which will be much closer odds, wouldn’t that be a strategically smart move?

Yes, John won 2012 SB. He’s quite comparable to Tomlin. Both have one SB win. Both have 10 seasons of 10+ wins.
Tomlin has .638 winning % regular season, 8-10 postseason. 0 losing seasons. 18 years
John Harbaugh has .618 winning % regular season, 12-10 postseason. Two losing seasons (7-9, 5-11). 17 years

The other guys have it well covered, but I’ll add one tip. Try putting the helix at the bow to “sleep mode” before you move and start up the outboard. It turns off the transducer and screen to save power draw. I have had the same issue as you and this has been my work around. Press the power button and the option to turn the unit to sleep is the bottom option. You can press the up button to go the last option (sleep mode). Press the power button to turn it back on and it’ll be ready right away.

This breaks it down in English… DEI Amendment

It is in english, but politically persuasive english in the form of an editorial.

Where are they getting the $25 million annually number for the community grant advisory council? The total amount of 2024 funds available to the LCCMR via the ENRTF is just under $80 million. The 1.5% proposed to be given to the community grant advisory council would only be $1.2 mill. The MN state lottery sales last year were $787.2 million. If the community grant advisory council received 1.5% from that total that still would only be $11.8 million. That $25 mill/year number is so incredibly false propaganda.

Getting so hung up on 1.5% piece of a pie to vote no on environmental related funding, and letting it go into general funding, is completely ridiculous IMO.

Werm, I think you may be confusing the ENRTF and the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment. Those are two different funds.
ENRTF is lottery funds passed in 1988.
Legacy Amendment is 0.375% tax passed in 2008.

Anywhere from 52-55 depending on time of day.
Caught a lot of fish on one lake on Saturday morning, then went to a different lake in the afternoon and struggled. That same lake we caught a lot of fish a week earlier.

The last two weekends were the best two consecutive weekends all year for me, largemouth only, and chunky fish. Green weeds, especially cabbage, are key. Bass have been on the top edge of weed flats, 5-10ft. Crankbaits have been by far the best choice, but also caught fish on colorado or oklahoma blade spinnerbaits, nothing on willowleaf. I love casting cranks, second favorite method after topwater, so its been a lot of fun. This past weekend we caught close to 100 bass but only about 5 pike total, which was very strange. The weekend before it was about 60/40 bass to pike.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh has been fired this morning. Can’t help but think that the Vikings had something to do with that after the result in London on Sunday.

Can’t help but think that Aaron Rodgers had something to do with that.

I’m not a big Rocco fan, but I don’t think you can put last night’s extra inning loss on him or really even the bullpen. He actually kept Ober in the game through 7, unlike Ober’s last start when he was rolling and the bullpen immediate blew it. Varland and Duran each had 1-2-3 innings in relief. And with a runner on 2B to start an extra inning it’s not terribly difficult to score multiple runs on softer hits like Cleveland did.
However, on Tuesday night despite their win, I couldn’t understand Rocco’s move to take out Wallner and have Margot pinch hit for him. I know it was because Cleveland brought in a lefty and was playing the L/R matchup, but come on. Take out the guy who had driven all your runs in the game at the time for a guy who was 0-28 in pinch hitting on the season and then set the record at 0-29.

Sometimes the home lake advantage ends up hurting an angler, but certainly not the case for Fothergill. The total unknown of the lake for 95% of the field is a huge advantage for him. But no doubt the kid knows how to catch fish anywhere in the country as evident by his results and AOY standing.

Lots of compliments on the fishery and area from the anglers during weigh-in. But plenty of comments on the fish being tough to bite, especially after the pressure from practice.

After a cancelled day yesterday ( Not sure why. I’m told the forecaster they used for weather was way off in the wind speed ) They are up and running on Leech lake today. From Basstrak it looks like some really decent bags of fish are being recorded. It will be interesting to see how much the SM are playing a roll on Leech.

There was also a storm that rolled through in the morning too, not just wind. But overall it does seem that the wind wasn’t quite as bad as they anticipated.

Looking like a great battle for AOY. Pulling for Chris Johnston to take. He’s having a great day with 28 and change!

Ya it was great to see Chris win the AOY and his brother Cory win the event. Those Johnston brother are great fishermen. Finishing 1 and 4 in this event and 1 and 3 in the AOY. Also have to give it to the rookies. Mckinney finishing 2nd in the AOY and 3rd in the tourney and Gee finishing 2nd at this tourney. Great class of rookies this year.
Sad to see Rick Clunn and Frank Talley retiring, but it was probably over due for both of them. Neither has been competitive in the AOY for many years now.

Helluva year for the rookies, with 9/10 finishing in the top 28 places in AOY! Goes to show that the new EQ qualifying rules are working to bring in elite ready anglers. But those finished didn’t come without some growing pains.
McKinney would have likely easily won AOY too had he not had his day 2 weight at Smith Lake disqualified, which placed him in 93rd place. Then JT Thompkins was DQ’d from the St. Lawrence for receiving waypoints. Tough learning lesson for those kids.
What a finish to the year for Gee. Finishing 2-3-2 in this last 3 events, to go along with a 4th place finish in his very first elite tournament.

I can’t help much with brand recommendations, but great idea to get the boy some tools. My uncles got me a nice complete set of Craftsman tools (sockets, wrenches, drivers, etc) for my HS graduation that I keep in my truck and have been put to good use over the years for many different repairs/projects.

I’m sure FFS does have an effect on educating the fish, but the SLR/Thousand Islands has gotten so much pressure in the last number of years with elites, mlf, opens, college, high school and other local tournaments becoming more prevalent there. Plus more of them seem to be going out into the lake rather than sticking to the river. I think a combination of fishing pressure and FFS has educated the fish.
