So i ended up goin with the slip sinker rig without a leader. Tried a split shot to keep the slip sinker from going against the hook but that didnt work very well. Gonna try a rubber band next time.

Totally love the slip sinker rig along with a dual drag system reel. My buddy was using 2 rods while i was just using 1 and i caught more fish than him. Fish feels no weight when it bites

Yeah, I try to not make it too complicated.

For a sucker or bullhead in the 8″ range I use the Team Catfish 8/0 Super J hooks. If Gama’s I’ll go with their 10/0. The two are the same size although the TC is heavier wire.

About 18 inches of 80 pound Nuclear Yellow line, never more then 18″. I make sure the swivels are a min of 90 pound test with a 4 oz sinker. In spring there might be a need for more weight but a person can get by with less most of the year. Since it’s a slip sinker it really doesn’t matter what size it is as long as it holds the bait where you want it.

Then 80 pound Team <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>Catfish Tug O War braid for the rest of the line.

I don’t use lighter line for the leader as the cat will tell you what your weakest link is. But many fold do, some don’t use any leader at all.

The hook gets down sized as the bait size is dropped.

    Good Luck!

Why a yellow leader instead of a clear mono/fluoro one? Even the green power pro seems like itd blend in better.

Would you put a bead anywhere?

Thanks for the input folks. Ended up going with the zippo rugged over the others because of brand recognition.

Was strongly considering okuma til i read their bearings dont last as long as shimano. Im partial to shimano reels

Fishing for flatheads in medium sized rivers. 90 yards is enough?

Looked into the trio baitfeeder and it only has 22 lbs max drag. Is that high enough? I remember reading somewhere that you want the drag set at 1/3 the pound test. 80 lb test would be 26.666

    Thanks for the replies folks.

So its soundin like the consensus on the spinning reel is the okuma avenger baitfeeder ABF-80b.

Might be able to get a st croix muskie rod for relatively cheap from a buddy. Muskies dont get bigger than like 60 lbs. Will a st croix muskie rod be able to handle an 80 lb flathead?

As far as the slip sinker rig, ive never used a slip sinker before. What line should i use for the leader? What specific slip sinker should i use? The rivers im going to fish this with have lots of snags

    Also, what size circle hooks?

From shore. I was thinking of using treble hooks but after doing some research it seems that circle hooks are better for flatheads.

Im willing to spend like 2 – 300

I plan to fish for flatheads using live bluegill or live green sunfish on a drop shot rig
