Maybe what some call a Firewood Cord, but the Legal Definition of a Cord is 4ft x 4ft x 8ft!

No kidding, wood sellers in the twin cities here have done an excellent job of convincing buyers a fireplace cord is a cord. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to explain to people the difference, then after I explain it I get this response “no, it’s a cord”

I swear whoever came up with the term “fireplace cord” and “rick cord” and “face cord” and “stove cord” did it just to confuse people. Why not call it 1/3 of a cord?

I’ve gone through 3 Optima blue top in less then 3 yrs each, 3 Northern in the same time frame.

If I’m reading that right it sounds like you’ve gone through 6 batteries in less than 6 years – is this on one boat? If so then I’d say there is something wrong with your electronics or motor.

    Wendy’s is $1 for 8 lbs (I think).

In the past I have just wheeled a cooler into McDonalds and asked them to fill it. They have for free.

Do you know anyone who works at a bar or restaurant?

And thank you for being the guy who’s making sure his guests have cold drink

If you really want to torture yourself take that price of the boat (with electronics) and divide it by the # of fish caught. Price per fish. YIKES!

Do you NEED those electronics, of course not, but do you NEED a 3 BR house when a small apartment would do the same?

Well after weeks of work 10 minutes at a time (I have two young kids) I fixed my problem,
step one: go on craigslist and search for HDS5
Step two: meet very attractive 30 something woman to buy said HDS5 because her dad “can’t work a computer to save his life”
Step 3:list my non working 520c on craiglist for cheap

I’m 95% sure the antenna is bad but it’s $220 for a new one so I decided and HDS5 was the route to go. I’ll probably end up using the 520 for sonar only in a Lowrance ice pack.

    Thanks for the help guys

I thought these inspections were voluntary too but last week on Minnetonka I had an inspector (not DNR agent) tell me different.

I’ve been inspected a million times and it usually takes 20 seconds or less and I just keep doing what I do and they’re done by the time I’m backing down the ramp.

This guy walked in between my truck and boat WHILE I WAS BACKING UP. When I put it in park and asked what he was doing he got short with me and said “I’m not done with my inspection”

I replied “these inspections are not mandatory and you can’t stop my from launching”

He replied “the inspections are mandatory, the questions are voluntary”

I still think they are not mandatory but know am not sure.

It’s asking me for log in info.

Just thought of another question, is there a way to test the LGC 3000 antenna I have now?

Finally got a chance to get under there and see how it was wired and put the software update on.

It is wired correctly (the guy put it to the 12v receptical so the main power switch is inline where Lowrance wants it) and the software update did not help so I guess that just leaves me with a bad antenna. Can anyone else think of another reason why it wouldn’t work?

I had my ipilot fail and it would cause the spot lock to go haywire, run all over the place.

Theoretically yes you could do it but there is risk.

That makes sense, I put the software update on a chip a couple days ago, was going to dig into this two nights ago, then last night….you know how it goes, didn’t get around to it.

I do have one good excuse, one of the nights I had to drive out to Maple Grove to buy a Terrova with Ipilot.

I will try to dig into this tonight and report back. Thanks guys.

So the antenna gets power from a seperate wire? Not from the plugs to the unit??

I will try a software upgrade tonight.

I was out on the lake all day and did not get a signal.

I don’t know anyone who has a antenna I could borrow.

Oh wow, this is not a fair question. Last year I spent about $5k just on electronics (but of course that’s a 5-10 year investment).

I’d say in a typical year I’m in the $2k ballpark for gear and gas but my boat and fishing gear is one of the few things I “waste” money on. I am very level headed about the rest of my spending. The funny thing is when I’m standing there with a $400 reel in my hand I always think to myself “am I really going to catch more fish if I buy this?” HA!

On a side note, these types of threads always surprise me to find how many guys lie to their wives. Hopefully it’s just banter.

Licensed (non practicing) appraiser here. Real estate measurements on a single family home are taken from the outside of the house.

MLS square footage is notoriously high, they’ll include porches sometimes garages. The listing will have the phrase “information deemed reliable but not guaranteed”

The Appraiser actually measured the house.

I’m interested to hear what the listing agent uses as an excuse, I gurandamtee they did not physically measure the perimeter of the house. If it was me I’d renegotiate the offer.

Everything grouse said is right on. If they are not titled it should be easy, if they are titled and the previous owner is no where to be found……not gonna be fun.

Once they hit 30 lbs you can move them to a neopreme 30-50 jacket that doesn’t have the rear flap and huge shoulder floats. They’re much better. Sams club has nice ones.

Also having them wear them around the house they get use to it and think it’s fun helps a lot.

I think I’ll stick with my Coleman’s for a quarter of the cost of the Yeti’s.

Just a heads up Menards has the Coleman Extreme on sale for $25 right now

You can say that again, one of these days I’m going to get an orange vest, a brown hat and a bull horn and just stand their telling people “you can’t tie up to the launch docks….you can’t leave your boat at the launch docks…..you can’t let your wife hold the boat at the launch docks….”

Where do I get a reciept that shows I paid the sales tax? Anything else I should know when I show up to get this registered?

You have not and will not have to pay sales tax.

If you get really really lucky the clerk might just transfer it right there for you but I doubt it. As said you’ll have to track down the previous owner and get him to sign off and/or get a new duplicate registration. If the boat is titled you’ll need that too.

Uh craigslist…..I have a love/hate relationship with him. I could go on and on with stories… Like the guy yesterday that came to look at my boat for sale and was in my garage for AN HOUR AND A HALF, when I bought that boat I think I made an offer 5 minutes after meeting the guy.

Or the guy that said he would buy a trailer I had for sale, then canceled our appointment to meet because he “couldn’t find his trailer hitch” then the next day I call him 30 minutes after we’re supposed to meet and he tells me “his truck broke down” yeah buddy sure it did.

I’ve also had many many good transaction on there.

It’ll depend on how the front winch stand has been adjusted (where the boat sits in relation to the axle. But it should be about 10% of the total weight of boat motor trailer. Ballpark guess – 300 lbs.

Take each of the graphs and the trolling motor and try to sell it used on the open market. You’ll quickly see they are worth essentially nothing.

Not trying to get into a big back and forth thing here but again I disagree. I’ve bought, brokered and sold a lot boats, TMs, graphs so I am speaking from experience in the market place.

As far as the loan, wholesale and retail value that others have talked about. Accessories mean very little in the loan and wholesale numbers. They do have value in a retail number and that is what the OP is asking about.

To the OP, let us know whatever it is you do end up buying and post pics.

Iowa is a pain, but usually the boat is easier. As long as all the legal owners are on board you’ll get it worked out – just takes time.

I’d say around $6k depending on condition

    Quote:

Remember the electronics and TM are worth $0.00.

Base your pricing off the boat/motor/trailer.

Can you explain that more? I disagree, the ones in questions are worth about $500 ti 1k (depending on screen size) and if he bought a boat with neither he had to go buy them.

One important point to consider: Paypal is NOT like cash.

If you read the 45,000 word user agreement that you accepted when you joined Paypal…

The bottom line is that any money that was placed IN your account can be pulled OUT of your account by Paypal for a variety of reasons without your consent…..

    Grouse

    +1 heck

Pay pal protects the buyer and almost always sides with the buyer in disputes. He has 45 days to claim “item not as described” and he can get a full refund.

You may be able to receive the money as a gift and circumvent the buyer protection but I am not familiar enough with the system to comment on that.

If it was me I WOULD NOT DO IT

If I was in that position I would write up a rent to own contract with as large of a down payment as you can talk them into. With the down payment being forfeited if they do not buy the house. You will still be on the hook for repairs as they are renting and you own.

C/D is not an option until you pay off the mortgage (however I am not an expert)

A couple other words of wisdom:
Owning two houses is a real PITA

If you’re not going to cash flow the rental I’d try everything I possibly could to sell it even if that means bringing cash to closing

Keeping a rental house that you don’t want (ie are not making any money on) is like a headache that will not go away

Renting to friends is sticky business
