I have had a MarCum Pursuit HD for about 2 years which I have been generally fairly happy with. My only real complaint is that it is hard to see in the sunlight. Sadly, last weekend my camera started getting condensation in it which means it sprung a leak. It is now pretty much worthless and through discussions with MarCum customer service, they coldly informed me that my warranty is up…here is the response:

    Hey,

The warranty on all camera systems is one year. That is the industry standard. Your system is more than two years old. That’s more than twice the warranty period. We are unable to cover this under warranty.

So I would need to purchase a new camera unit replacement and are not giving me any discounts or leeway. I have only used the thing about 10 times total….I expected a $500 camera to last more than 2 years! I am pretty disappointed with their unwillingness to work with me and it basically tells me that they themselves only expect their cameras to last 1 year and do not stand by their products. This was the first MarCum product I ever bought and it looks like it will be my last!

Has anyone tried to take one of these camera heads apart and re-seal it? MarCum says this is impossible, but they had to have assembled it somehow at the factory.

I fish Pool 2 a lot in the warmer season (can’t say I know the water real well though). I have never fished P2 in winter though. For those of you that winter fish it, is there any decent place to shore fish or is a boat really the only good way to go? I lay my boat up over the winter so I can’t get it out until probably March. From what I have read, the heaviest concentration of fish is probably between St Paul and 694. Is that due to the relatively warmer water from the pigs eye plant or is that just where they hang out in the winter? If anyone is looking for a winter fishing buddy I would love to get out and see what P2 has to offer in the winter. I like to catch walleye but am also game for other species.

I fished the mouth of Minnehaha Creek and all the way up the rock wall towards the lock from shore today from about 3-6. Not a single bite. Several boats and other shore fisherman out and I didn’t see any fish being caught. Current is fast and water is high. Guess I will try harder next time! Rain in the forecast will only make the river push higher.

I am for the slowing down of AIS and educating people and I actually think the training is a good idea, but I see the way the DNR wastes our tax money and I don’t agree that this should cost anything and I also don’t agree that it should be something that must be renewed every 3 years. Take the training once and be done with it. It would be much more streamlined if when a person wanted to register a boat in Minnesota that they either had to take the AIS test or prove that they have taken it in the past. I guess that doesn’t solve the problem of out of staters not taking the training, but there are going to be oodles of them that will not know about this training anyway. I have too many things to remember in my life and getting a AIS sticker every 3 years is not high on my list of life priorities.

Yea, several weights of jig, several types/colors/lengths of tails. Tried dragging on bottom, bouncing up off bottom. I also threw a few small crankbaits as well. I was just wondering if anyone else is having luck on artificial or if live bait is really the key right now.

I was out for several hours on Saturday and didn’t get anything. I was working the area by Ford dam lock, the area around Minnehaha Creek, and the eddies across from Minnehaha as well as the one just past the HWY 5 bridge. Maybe my problem was that I didn’t have live bait because I saw a few people at Minnehaha hook up and they were using minnows. I was just using jigs and moxie tails. Anyone having luck with artificial bait? I sure wish there were a closer bait shop to Hidden Falls than Joes or the Ace Hardware off Penn!

Thanks for the helpful tips. I will try some of these things. One question though…I have tried lighter jigs on the River before and they seem to work ok in the summer with low flow conditions, but does anyone also use smaller jigs when the current is stronger like it is now? It seems that a 1/8oz jig gets swept down the river and I can’t tell if it is on the bottom or what it is doing. In that case would you position just upriver of where the target is and then let her drop and free spool as it sinks? I don’t think I could hover anything ligher than about 1/2 oz off the bottom up by ford dam…too much current.

Had decent luck on P2 today, especially earlier in the morning. Fished from about 7AM-1PM. Concentrated mostly on the mouth of Minnehaha Creek, the inside bend across from Minnehaha Creek, and the confluence of the Miss/Minn Rivers. Caught lots of small catfish and drum jigging with minnows. Also caught lots of smaller crappie (no size to them). Also caught one striped bass. No Walleye unfortunately.
