In my opinion when it comes to customer service, Johnson Outdoors is horrible to deal with. Period.

Garmin on the other hand has been 5 star. Nothing but good things.

Haven’t had to call Lowrance in 7-8 plus years but they “were” good to deal with.

Guessing Lymes. I use to give my dogs FishMox. Was a miracle cure. Dogs would turn around in a few hours. Good to go the next day.

    Good luck

Just finished a Derby in Port. Was a little lumpy all weekend but Fishing is very good. Seems to be a lot of 20lb-22lb salmon around. Also lots of little kings starting to show up and replace the coho. Kings preferred FF’s Better spoon bite up a little higher for Rainbows, lakers and smaller kings and coho. No color or presentation stood out.

    Good luck

I work on boats everyday. No….. Not a silly question. and NO Boats are not designed to get wet. Just the hull is designed to get wet.
They are made of wood. Wood rots. Go on Craigslist and Marketplace and look at 15-20yr old boats. Most, if not all will need floors, transoms and especially carpet replaced sooner than later. Moisture is not your friend.

Most newer composite glass boats are a different story. But I still cringe seeing that or any boat sitting in the rain without a cover on it. Covers are cheap. Protect your investment. You will be happy in the long run.

Just got back from trip. Blew a tire about 50 miles from Port Clinton. Went to tire shop around 10am. We were the 3rd group in that morning with a blow out on 80.

Fishing was good tho. Boating 20plus fish in about 1.5hrs each morning if you found them. Longer if not but still consistent fishing. Most fish were 20″ plus. Biggest 28.5″. Tons of 14″-16″ fish in closer towards shore in the less cleaner water. Lots of trash fish too. Crawlers were best for us. 35-45 fow. Future looks great for Lake Erie walleye numbers going forward.

I had an old Black and Tan hound that went blind over night 10 years ago or so. Obviously, he couldn’t hunt anymore. But he lived out the remainder of his life being a great yard dog and shop dog for several years before I had to put him down. He surprisingly adjusted very well to being blind. He had no problem smelling and eating food.

What are you feeding your dog?

Finally got to scratch a Fort Peck fishing trip off my bucket list last June. I don’t think the big State of Montana knows just how good of fishing they really have out there. We did a DIY trip and stayed on the east side out of Rock Creek Marina. Super nice folks. Fishing was 5 star. We caught 10lb walleyes everywhere we went for the 4 days we were there and tons of mid twenty-thirty inch pike. Some of the best walleye fishing for big ones Ive ever seen. We didnt see the numbers you would on Lake Erie, but wow the size was crazy good. It got sunny and flat calm of couple days, midday, which really shut the walleye bite down. So we tried trolling for salmon. Didnt catch any kings but we had no problem hooking into a bunch of nice lakers. Would have liked to try jigging but we never really marked a concentrated school of fish. They were very scattered. But, In my opinion if I wanted to jig for lake trout our Great Lakes, (Superior, Huron and Michigan) are hard to beat. There are some phenomenal lake trout jigging opportunities much closer to home.

All in all it was a very fun trip. Would highly recommend doing it. We have another trip planned for this June. Hope to make it an annual thing. Good luck.

I got rid of all my heavy lake trout rods many years ago and now only use a 46″ medium action walleye type rod and reels for ice fishing. 14lb Fireline and 12lb floro. Caught a bunch of 20plus pound lake trout with zero issues. If I find myself deeper than 150 with lots of current I usually bust out the wire then. My best depths have been 90-140. But have had many great days inside 90 too.

I pull my 20′ Lund Pro V with my V10 22′ Class C motorhome a lot. Can’t hardly tell it’s back there. Gas mileage doesn’t go down much either. (2-3 mpg) I was told many times by many guys to get the “Ford” chassis motorhome for pulling big loads. Heard the Chevy isn’t as good. If you are good at backing down a ramp with your pickuo truck, a smaller class C isn’t much different. But, that 30′ you mention is a much different beast than my little 22′.

Can’t help with dies, but I’ve been hunting with a .257 Roberts for about 10 years now in a Browning A-bolt. Been running the Remington Core’s with great results. Also tryed Hornadys SST’s with not so great results. I’m down to 1/2 box of Remington. Haven’t seen a box for sale in years.

Off topic a bit, But Here’s my experience with Ford in the last 9 months or so…..

Went to local Ford dealer last May to order a new 2023 F150 crew. The used truck market was way up and I wanted to trade or sell my 2018 F150 crew outright before it hit 60k in mileage. Was told Ford wasn’t taking orders till August. No new 2022 trucks on the lot either to pick from. Zero. So I basically had to wait till then to buy a Ford pickup. Mid August came and I Went in and ordered pretty much exactly what I wanted with zero rebates. But figured, hey, my used truck is still worth a bunch and I should come out o.k. yet. A couple weeks after ordering I found out my truck wouldn’t be built till October now. Nice! More waiting… Well I recieved an email from Ford that it was indeed built in October. The 30th. With a shipment date of Nov 11 2022. At this point the used truck market was sliding down hill faster than Clark W. Griswald. And Being that I put on around 6k additional miles on my 18 I figured I lost around 3-4k dollars waiting to buy/trade. Oh well I figured. Not the end of the world. I will be driving a new all winter with new tires…etc.. so thats good. right?

Fast forward to today. As I type I still haven’t got “my” truck. I received an email from Ford about 3 weeks ago that my truck was finally in transit and due at the dealership on Feb 22 2023. And would receive an email when it got there. Still no email from Ford to date, But the Dealer finally called me on Monday letting me know “my” truck was in but it was “damaged” in transit. LOL.

So here I sit with my 2018 FX4 with now over 70,000 miles which is worth about 8-10k less than what it was in May of last year and I have a damaged “new” truck sitting at the dealership with no idea on how long it will take to fix. Not to mention there are like NO rebates on the 2023 F150’s yet!

I have emailed and called Ford many times with ZERO, yes Zero responce in the past several months about the delay in shipping. Have not tryed contacting them yet, yet about the damage.

What would you guys do? It’s not the Dealer’s fault one bit. I don’t blame them at all. I’m just not real happy with Ford.

Oh, and By the way I get around 10 mpg hauling my 18′ enclosed trailer ice fishing with my 2018. 3.5 eco. 23 empty. Been super happy with it and I had an 2011 and 2015 F150’s with the 3.5L. All have been trouble free.

I think season opens May 15th. Did ok at the head of the Bay out of Kipling. Lots of boat traffic. Smaller fish north, bigger fish south is what I remember. Mostly walleyes but some pike and bass mixed in too

I’ve owned a 2011 with 135k miles, 2015 with 120k miles and currently a 2018 with 65k miles all 3.5 EB FX-4 Crew’s. All with zero issues. I also have a 2023 3.5EB on order that goes into production next week.
My cousin is a service manager at a Ford Dealer. Claims most EB issues are lack of maintance problems. He said its very important to change engine oil every 4-5k and to use Ford’s oil. Take it for whatever its worth… Like I mentioned. I’ve had “Zero issues.” He says it unbelievable how many customers buy new vechicles and NEVER get an oil change done. And then P and M about having engine failures.

The only thing I’ve found to work is Lava soap. I’ve always have a bar in the boat to keep human scent/gas/oil etc.. down on the hands. Just lather the heck out of your ankles and lower legs with the bar of soap and lake water. Helps to re apply about every hour. It drys quickly and looks weird, but works great. Plus your not spraying chemicals on your boat and person.

Go straight out from landing and then a bit south. Look for 50-75 boats. Thats the reef.

I’ve got a .257 Roberts Browning A-bolt. I’ve tried the SST’s. They shoot well but are junk hunting loads(in my opinion) . Go with the Remington Core’s. That is what Ive been using for years now in both my .257 and my son’s .243 with great results on whitetails.

You won’t need any tips or tricks. There are zillions of walleyes swimming around. You could catch fish on a frozen dog turd on Erie. You will have a blast. Your only ememy will be the weather.

    Have fun.

Get to Red Cliff EARLY if your going on a Thursady- Sunday. It’s border line insanity. (25 years ago there would be 5-10 rigs) Now it’s hundreds. Follow the 1000 or so people out around the north side of Basswood and head out from there. Stay away from North Channnel inbetween Stockton and Madeline (around Michigan) and the South Channel between Madeline and Long. I haven’t been out this year in the islands yet, but have heard there’s lots of bad pack ice in spots. I’ve been out twice near shore and have done really well on splake, coho and some browns mixed in. Heard the lake trout have been hit and miss like most years. Like most any fishing, If your not catching fish, move. And don’t think you have to be deep either. Last few years my biggest lakers have been coming from 50-60 fow. Nice thing there is you will have splake, browns and whitefish mixed in too when fishing that shallow. But, you probably will not see the numbers of lake trout you will see out deeper. Stop by River Rock in Ashland and get some FRESH herring or smelt for cut bait.(not frozen) if they dont have any, sucker meat works ok too. (they are also sometimes good for current info and where to go and not to go) Lastly, shiny, high and fast if the sun is out. Low, Glow and Slow if its cloudy. (not always the case, but thats what we go by) Good luck.

Just got back last night from 2.5 day trip. Ice is rough, but not impossible. 12″-14″ everywhere we went. Fished out as far as 14 miles (29 fow) and as close as 4 miles out(19 fow) Caught fish everywhere we went. We took sleds out. Atv travel would be best, but some cracks started to open up….. Talked to one guy in town Sunday night who went down with his atv coming off in the dark. Luckily he saved it but got very wet in the process. Fishing was very good. Evenings were the best but we had a good day bite Sunday when the sun peaked out. Seemed gold flutter spoons worked best when the sun was out. Orange/yellow glow spoons were crazy good in low light. Lost count on how many fish we caught. 27″ was biggest. 95% were over 16″. 15lb bonus laker and one 14.5″ perch. Deeper was better than shallower for us. If its windy please don’t venture out too far. That ice out there moves and shifts ALOT. If going on a weekend be prepared for 1000’s of people, but there’s plenty of room for everyone. Good luck.

Just got back from Angle yesterday. Fished Monday-wednesday. First time up there. (past Garden anyways) Was suprised how many people were up there ice fishing mid week. Fishing was so-so. Walleyes are schooled up. Either your on them or your not. Not much inbetween. Everyone we talked to said deep was the ticket, but we found are best fishing in 14-17 fow. Baits and colors did not matter. If you landed on them they were feeding.
