I just heard a possible solution. Supposedly this is a fairly common problem that can be fixed by pushing down on the motor when running the trim up. See if it works and report back. I’m guessing this is a cavitation (air in the system) issue.

This is really good stuff. Thanks for all the replies.

So most of these responses are talking about tailrace situations. I could swear what I read a while back said it didn’t matter how far below the dam you go, the bite still correlated to the release of water…seems like it was just to a lesser degree. If you look at gage readings, the water level fluctuations decrease the farther you get from the release point. Here on the missouri below Sakakawea, it may vary per day 1.5-2 ft 15 miles below the dam and only 6″ 50mi below. It’s possible that the bite will correspond to the smaller water changes isn’t it, even though they’re quite small?

Thanks again for all the input!

I went out and bought a blank card and transferred the data. It worked. Brought it into my mapcreate program and was able to do a little editing.

Lowrance actually has a section in their manual explaining how to mount the ‘stock’ skimmer transducer as a thru hull. So yes, you can mount skimmers as a thru hull. You can use silicone instead of epoxy, just make sure there are no air bubbles. Download an owners manual from one of the lowrance units (X25), they offer suggestions on how to optimally locate your transducer in your hull. BC

I think most batteries are made by exide and are packaged differently for each vendor. My advice, call interstate batteries and see if they have any blemished batteries. They are $35 a piece (1/2 price) for deep cycle batteries and come with 1/2 the warranty. My last set lasted 3 years, or about as long as the full price version. Blem batteries are blems usually because of some cosmetic flaw that will not effect performance.

How about putting down some rubber tread material. My buddy bought a used fiberglass boat which had a bunch of unused mounting holes on the bow. He covered it with rubber matting material. Serves two functions, covers up the holes and protects the bow from becoming scratched from dirty feet. Hope this helps.

Flush mounting the internal antenna units is not advised. I also understand that they may be sensitive to any windshield obstructions.

I know exactly what would happen!
I told my buddy the other day that it’s the most expensive piece of fishing equipment (on a $/lb basis) that I’ve ever purchased. Basically a $150 potato chip that could be blown away in a gust of wind. Maybe I need to attach a float to it… Just wish I could back it up.

I’m a little distraught that I paid good money for the data but can’t make a backup copy. I know where they’re coming from, but is that legal? If I own the info, can’t I duplicate it?

What do you guys think about having the combo sonar/gps units versus having one of each? I have a X25c that my bride gave me for Christmas (bless her soul) but was thinking of exchanging for a 3500c along with a seperate color sonar. I currently have grayscale versions (x97 and globalmap1600) and want to upgrade to color and chip accepting gps. If I go to a color sonar, what would be recommended? Thanks!!!
