For central WI, the 1st weekend of December is looking like a possibility on some small back bays or backwaters, only shallow water stuff but better than nothing. Hope the forecast stays like it looks beyond the next 2 weeks to give southern WI a chance by mid December

Forecast is looking good for ice in northern MN and North Dakota as early as next week on smaller lakes, maybe the week after in central and northern WI

I am not sold on the splitters that push the blade into a flat stop… How many times, especially a gnarly wood.. do you load the next piece to finish the previous split through the fixed blade ? Not sure you can do that with the Stop being the fixed position. Anybody have experience with both ?

It hasnt happened to me in 15+ years, but the gnarliest wood I split is ash. Its stringy sometimes but manageable

The splitter in the pic above is pretty close to mine, and $800 is a great deal

Its not realistic to think we will be able to stop everyone who tries to cross illegally into this country, they will always find a way. That being said, there has to be ways to make it harder for them to do so, it just comes down to the cost to do so.

Having a tough time making it thru the early fights and announcers….. Seems like the crowd there isnt very excited either (or no crowd there?)

So far it seems like a made for TV event rather then a sport event which is sad

Mine is a 25 Ton Speeco splitter, it has never not split anything I put on there. Most of the wood I split is oak and ash (which can be stringy and tougher to split)

It does have the option to tilt up if there is something too heavy to lift

Its all just a money grab but I will probably watch it over watching my Badgers get slaughtered by Oregon. Can only hope Mike connects a quick one and knocks this idiot out cold.

Im hoping to be walking out on ice in the southern half of WI somewhere by mid December. I was last year on some backwaters off the WI River, but no places I had any confidence in catching much.

I would say to look for one that has a name brand motor over one that has a motor you have never heard of

Mine has Briggs on it and I have seen others with Kohler and Honda. Cheaper ones may have a no-name motor

1 nice feature is having a side cradle on it so when you make the 1st split, that half can rest on the cradle rather than on the ground, it makes things go faster and saves on your back

We do a guys weekend ice fishing on Petenwell every year. Every walleye caught, we pass a 1.75 of Hiram Walker Peppermint around for the group (group sizes varies each year but its always at least 4 guys, sometimes up to 8)

There has been years that we didnt finish it, and years it was gone by noon….

I did have the TUCR Bullwhip but preferred the Precision Noodle so I sold the Bullwhip. I wasnt a fan of how fast the transition was from the tip to the backbone on the Bullwhip. The Precision Noodle has a more moderate transition and I feel is better for bigger gills and crappies (just my opinion)

For walleye rods, I usually have 2 rigged up, JT Goldigger with some Wonderbread colored Northland Buckshot and the TUCR Fusion with a 1/8oz Slender Spoon. I have other setups, these are just the 2 I generally start with

For Crappies and Gills, usually have the TUCR Precision Noodle and the JT Customs Rogue with a 4mm tungsten jig with a plastic, just different colors between the 2 setups. When I need to downsize I go to the DH Customs AL Dente with 3mm or non-tungsten jigs tipped with a spike or 2

Agreed, go with someone that specializes in them rather than making it a weekend project with someone that thinks they can do it (speaking from experience).

We replaced a wood fireplace in our house last year, the fireplace that was there was already in the house when we bought it, but when we had a company take it out for an upgrade, the absolute crappy work between how it was framed in, the electric rerouted thru the wall and how they boxed in the chimney we are amazed the house never burned down, not to mention it was against every code there is and our home inspector missed it all when we bought the house

I a big fan of Jay and Wiebe but am not able to get into this one, too many guys yelling and screaming with excitement. I think I just prefer there videos of fishing and showing different areas and methods for catching fish

    What if Yamaha bought Alumacraft?

They all ready have a line of boats but you never can say never.

Agreed but Alumacraft is a lot bigger, more known and popular. I honestly dont know the quality of G3 boats having never been in one but knowing they are owned by Yamaha would make me consider looking at them if I was in the market for anew boat and a dealer was near by

OK, so I have the JT Gold Digger (30″), JT Shiver Stick (32″), DH Customs Perch Pounder (32″), TUCR Quick Tip (32″), TUCR Commander (32″), TUCR Fusion (32″)

If Im strictly targeting walleyes I generally reach for the JT Gold Digger for baits 1/8oz up to 1/4oz and if its a light bite and Im using 1/8oz or smaller, I grab the TUCR Fusion

Th Gold Digger is a Med/Light but leans more toward Medium and the Fusion leans more toward a light rod (which also works well for perch and crappies)

Honestly, most of the rods I listed will work for most walleye situations

As far as a rod case, I would recommend any kind of hard sided case you can get. I have the older Otter case which is no longer made and it holds rods up to 38in I believe

Hmmmmm, going to have to do some thinking for my response on this one as I have multiple rods from most mentioned plus DH Customs. I will follow up tomorrow with details.

Got back tonight, we were able to fish the lake or at least out to the gap on Thursday and Friday with good results. Nothing huge but good numbers and quality. Saturday the wind kicked up out of the south so we ended up going to Birchdale with good results, quantity was decent, but the average size was smaller that what we had caught out on the lake.

With the weather change into Sunday, the NOAA site was calling for 12ft waves out from the gap and the wind would be blasting right down the river so we went back to Birchdale. The fish were still in the same spot but it was a very tough bite

Overall, it was another good trip though

Thanks guys, I have been watching the NCOR reports as well, that guys is entertaining. Based on the wind forecast we will see how it goes, maybe trailer the boat up to Long Point and launch there rather than take a beating out from the gap with west winds. South winds would be OK out from the gap then Sunday with NNW winds just hang out in the river, lol

No. Even if i did this wouldn’t be on the radar for purchasing. Marcum has never been reliable or durable

I have 2 LX6’s that have been used weekly each winter for years without any issues

Ended up getting the Walleye Snare. It is noticeably heavier than the Panfish Snare as you would expect, but I do think it will work for crappies and perch fairly well, just have to watch it closer as the transistion to a heavier backbone will provide more resistance to the fish.
