About a month ago I was talking to a Ranger salesman about used boats and how cheap they are if they have an etec on the back and he said if you buy one your basically buying a hull and a trailer and whatever electronics are on the boat because the motor holds zero value. As said above, if you can get a smokin deal on one, used Verado’s are a dime a dozen or set the savings aside to repower eventually.

This. My 2018 90hp Etec has been a solid motor. That said, needed to replace the lower end last year after hitting some rocks, and the only new replacement lower my tech could find was $5,000 because the parts are drying up. After fixing, brought it to a local Ranger dealer to see about a trade-in/consignment on my Ranger Reata pontoon, and the dealer said they won’t take any trades/consignments with an Evinrude motor because of the lack of parts and inability to service.

The best part isn’t even using it–it’s all the attention I get while towing it around, getting gas, and unloading/loading at the lake…
