Yeah that Sobi video was pretty bad. I thought they were going to keep them. Then after they pile them up on the ice it’s like okay lets let them go. Ugh.
Not looking good so far. It’s early though. I doubt it will be like last year but maybe we will see some fishable ice around two harbors and toward Duluth.
I’m sick of shoveling already. By the time I get everything clear we get hit with more snow. I get burnt out on the snow if it’s not a little spaced out at least.
I used one last year. I really liked it. I ended up breaking the tip but my fault. I haven’t met an ice rod yet I couldn’t break. I might even buy another one for this season.
Never done it myself. In-fisherman had an article a few years back about it. Guys cutting like a spearing size hole out and sight fishing for eyes…sounds cool.
Yeah, im not buying the coho all die thing. They always seemed really tough to me. When fishing open water I’ve put them on stringers and it’s almost impossible to kill them unless you are really rough.
Numerous people fishing off 21st yesterday (Friday). There was some ice off the Lester but wind blew most of it out. Strong winds blowing out today. Have to see what that does.
The problem with getting a boat out now is most of the protected areas that you would launch from are frozen over. Maybe if you tried it a bit earlier in the month. Now it would be tough to do. I looked around a bit today. Back bays and protected shorelines are frozen but the wide open areas are open water. It looks ready. A cold snap and calm wind would get it frozen but looks like its gonna warm up this weekend so…prob gonna have to wait a bit.
Ugh, I hate when people stick the fish out…its cheesy, obvious, and makes the pic look worse by looking out of proportion. I also quit watching bill dance some time ago. He is always fishing those ponds. The only way I can tell its a different show is from what lure hes advertising.
Thats a bit early for the rivers…then again with the weather this year who knows. Would be a good time to try around the river mouths for kamloops and maybe steelhead.
Splake are open all year on superior. I would fish the river mouths in chequamegon bay. Such as the onion and pikes creek. Casting spoons and/or floating spawn or crawlers off the bottom.
I dont know if I buy the clearer water theory. Most areas of the river are still very dark. I definitely dont think that accounts for the relativly poor numbers of fish the last few years. I too remember when 100+ fish days were possible. I dont know whats going on. Probably just some big year classes that made the early to mid 2000’s so great. Its a big complicated system and maybe we just got spoiled but maybe well get the big numbers again someday.
