That adapter is genius. Is that something you were able to make yourself or did you have it made?

@ejd How did you end up doing? Headed up to Leech on the 22nd out of Trappers as well. Be interesting to see what all this snow does for the bite up there.

x2 on the Okuma, seems like a good reel so far and I know the IDO guys use them and work them pretty hard.

I did have a connection get loose on mine, slow leak, but if you jostled the tank you could hear/smell the propane leaking. I just unscrewed the cylinder after I was done drilling and then tightened up all the connections once I got home, problem solved.

Love my LX-6, or go LX-7 if you prefer the larger screen. They do everything and the ability to customize display is great. So many options to tailor the screen to whatever fishing technique you’re using that particular day.

Just going to bump this to see if anyone cares to share how they did. We caught fish pretty steady but never managed to find anywhere they were biting fast and furious. Caught all our fish between 10 and 14 feet, had a hard time getting the under 17″ fish. Went out Sunday morning to get the last 5, but managed to send everyone home with their limit. Overall it was a great first experience on URL, I’ll be back.

Heading up early Friday morning, parking an ice castle at JR’s and running portables from there.

@dbright which model Frabil? I’d like to see your setup when the rack is done.

It does look interesting a storing ice rods is its intended purpose, but at that price you could get two of the Plano All Weather gun cases. I went with the Plano case last year and haven’t been disappointed. Biggest downside is that its not quite as thick as this case or the Otter case, but I still managed to get 6 combos in there without folding reel handles.

Has anyone seen one yet? I’m curious if the frame/pole set up is the same as a Frabill or if Otter came up with something new? I’ve been fishing out of a Frabill sidestep for a few years now and I love it. Sure there are some things I’d change and the quality isn’t up to Otter standards, but at the time I bought it was the best option for my needs. I’m excited to check these out, they look like a good option when its time for me to upgrade.

One thing to think about with this kind of tent is that if you’re sleeping in the truck bed then you no longer have that area to store gear when you’re set up.

x2 on what’s been said about the Bro Sidestep. If you’ve already got a one man then you’ve got the true flip style covered for serious running and gunning. It seems like most sleds bigger than a one man require some support poles so I wouldn’t let that keep you away from a sidestep. I fished in a friend’s Otter Cabin last weekend and its a really nice shack, Otter quality is top of the line, but I wouldn’t trade my sidestep for it. The side doors are too convenient and the vertical front wall gives you a lot more usable space. I hang jackets and some small tackle boxes on the front wall and neither interferes with a big buddy heater. I also turned the back support pole into a 6 place rod holder which keeps an assortment of presentations in easy reach and out of the sled when I’m set up. A new shack is always a big decision, but I haven’t looked back after getting my sidestep. Just watch out for those windows, it took a couple years, but I had my first one crack last weekend. Damn it.

I’d look into a Plano Gun Guard AW Tactical Case or the Plano All Weather Tactical Gun Case, I got the 36″ for $50 on Amazon (the price seems to fluctuate a lot) and they carry the 42″ at Fleet Farm if you want to test it out. Solid case, I squeezed six rods (one inline) in it.
