I have heard that registration is going well for these two tournaments and over 25 teams have already registered for the June tourneys. May not want to wait if you would like an early flight number.

Wish I could have made it but I had prior commitments with the family. I was able to get my entry fees in for four of the tourneys and as my luck goes I drew the last spot. Sounds as though we have a good number of teams signed up already and only expect those numbers to rise. I am out of town this week but my wife informed me that I have a large membership package from the NWA at home waiting for me. Look forward to seeing everyone on Calumus in April.

West for me with the boat for the first time of the year. That can sometimes be interesting trying to work out the bugs for the first time.

I have posted a similiar response about this issue on another forum. I agree 100% that the NGPC does not care about the deer herd in the state, but only how can we sell more permits. They even stated that overall permit sales were down last year, hmmm wonder why – low mature buck quality, permit cost too high????? I know for a fact that we pay more than our neighbors for a resident deer tag.

Anyway, I just feel that if you are shooting any of the newer in line muzzleloaders and you now have a scope on it, you are shooting a single shot rifle. I don’t think anyone can debate that point. Technology has improved the muzzleloader to the point that the season does not fit the gun anylonger. It was originally intended to give the traditional muzzle loader a longer season because they were shooting a gun that was inferior to the rifle, that has now changed.

I fished the tournament this weekend. There were a total of 37 boats that ended up fishing the tournament. We have about ten more than that qualify for the NWT Championship but some of them couldn’t make it and others pre-fished for a day or two and then decided to not fish. To say the fishing was tough is an understatement. There were a total of 9 fish caught on Saturday and only 5 on Sunday. Hard to believe when you stop and think about the millions of walleye in that lake. All but one of the fish were caught slabbing in several different areas of the lake. The wind blew at least 25-30 both days and even higher on Sunday. At 37 two man teams fishing for 15 hours that is not a very good catch rate.

Plenty of nice white bass are being caught using slab spoons on the east end near the dam. Just look for the boats and join them. These fish aren’t breaking the surface but are feeding on schools of shad near the bottom. It’s actually some pretty decent action for this time of the year and a fun way to catch em. Good Luck.

thought I should chime in with what our problems have been. I have tried both knots and always run the tag end back through on the cinch knot but it doesn’t seem to matter. In last weekend’s tourney we had three fish break off on the hook set and when we tried to tie on a new jig, repeatedly broke the line again. Bottom line here is that you shouldn’t have to know some special knot just to use a line. Thousands of tournaments and millions of fish have been caught on straight classic mono and I can assure you that I will never use this line again. When you are fishing walleye tournaments and the bites are few and far between, you can’t afford to have your line break.

LuvEyes, nice picture. Should be lots of those size fish in there for the next couple of years with all this water.

Lance, that is correct my brother had caught that fish during the State Farm Open two weeks ago up at Sherman. Problem was that we had already weighed our two over 22 inches when caught that 30 incher. Thus, we had to throw 9-10 pounds back into the water.

I was little ticked off that he caught that fish when he did, only keeper he put in the boat we had to throw it back. To be honest, I never even looked at the fish again after I got it in the net.
Steve and Donna Snyder won the league last week with one 7+ pounder. Only three keepers caught between seven boats.

Zach, I won’t make it up there untl next week some time. The wife has me headed to Colorado for Easter weekend. Probably a good thing though because a guy could get burned out fishing in this crap for a week straight before the tournament.

Just hung up the phone with the business that USED to be his neighbor in Alma-great place for a cold one by the way-anyway he advised that the bank now owns everything in Alma that Larry used to own. They came a couple of weeks ago and took the keys to everything. He has also been told that he now is running some kind of shop at Johnson Lake, although I personally find that hard to beleive given the fact that the service at his shop in Alma was horrible to say the least.

I have also heard that he has several legal charges against him at this point and will be lucky not to be Bubba’s neighbor in Lincoln some day.

I would suggest to start calling around Johnson Lake and seeing if you can find some information on how to get ahold of him. I know that his shop in Lincoln closed last year and now the shop in Alma is gone also. Having been personally screwed by him myself I wish you the best of luck in tracking him down.

Zach, you were about two weeks late on catching the water as it was really coming in. Two weeks ago the inflow was over 1,000 CFS. Checked it on the NWS website today and it is about a third of that. The lake has risen almost 4 feet since the start of the meltdown. Unfortunately, Kansas will get every drop of it by the end of July. It should still be there for both tournaments in June though.

Yeah, we got into some large white bass and a few short walleye. Caught all of them slabbing on the ledges in 20-25 feet. I left the boat at the lake as I think it should only get better from here on out.
