12 inches of good clear ice. Went out this weekend the crappie fishing was the worst I have had in years we did manage a few crappie and a 45 inch sturgeon in 35+ hours of fishing over the weekend will try another spot next time I’m there.
Drilled a hole by shack yesterday with tape measure had 10.5 inches of ice thickness . I will drive a car but will not drive my 3/4 ton! Had a decent day yesterday, persistence pays off sooner or later.
They seem to be in the deeper water during the day and move into the shallows at dark to feed im on the edge of both need to have more than one shack out there to fish different times im not doing that bad .It just gets tough at times!
Sam thanks for the fish last week i am afraid this week for me has been worse. The morning bite still exists somewhat but the 10 oclock and on has been real tough where last week i could pull a few up during the day. This week nothing after 10:30. Sayin this reminds me of last year when it was like that there was a better afternoon bite but i have yet to stay that long with the midday lockjawed fish.Good luck!
Got Permanent shack out .8″ ice wi side, out from park 2 silvers 1 14′ bass (let go) no crappies(the targeted fish)til 3:30-4:40 ten crappie total none under 9 inches wierd day feast or famine! Think the day of the quiet river is over its getting pretty bad!
Thinking of driving out from the wisconsin side with my car weighs 3000 curb weight ,lot lighter than my 1 ton got 12 inches outside shack 4-5 inches of clear good ice army core of engineers graphs say 8 inches of clear ice will hold 5000lbs they say to figure the crappy ice at half thickness and that puts it at 8+ even at that it should be safe for a car?
