I will be picking mine up this weekend. The massive rod storage is one of the reasons I bought it. You can fit a smaller landing net in the rod storage compartments. On top of that the entire underside of each rod locker (and the other storage compartments) are all fitted with stainless steel compression latches and underside seals to create a watertight seal. I was up there this past friday helping decide on the final touches with the John(the owner). It has been a new experience in buying a boat. John really works with you to make sure that everything that goes into the boat and the placement meets your approval. I looked at all of the glass tillers this past fall and while they were nice the quality of the components on the backtroller and the fit and finish sold me. The list of these is too long. Go take a look at one and I think that you will agree.

I test drove one a couple weeks ago on Prior and it performed very similar to my old 1785BT YarCraft. However, the rod lockers are longer/bigger in the Backtroller. Both of which are 9′. The one thing that stood out for me was the ability to do a complete 360 in the captains chair without knocking your knees or shins. It also seems like everything you could think of was carefully thought through. I would have strongly thought about buying one had I not just puchased a boat. Maybe next year.

I test drove a BackTroller last fall and wow what a boat. I spent a lot of time last year looking at glass boats to replace the Lund. I looked at all the glass boats, and while they were nice and I would have enjoyed fishing out of all of them, none of them were enough of an upgrade to justify the price in my opinon. I officially gave up looking for a new boat and then I heard about BackTroller, looked them over and then called John Thelen, the owner. Fortunately he lives reasonably close to me. I drove over looked at the boat and he let me take one to test drive. I took it out on the lake and was amazed. I ended up ordering one which will be ready in a month or so. The entire layout of the boat is well though out, and if you want something different you can change it. The components are top notch, no plastic, and locks that actually lock. I thought that a 70 would be underpowered, but it is not. It flies out of the hole. I had two guys in it, full gas, and two full livewells and that thing was up on plane immediately going into some serious wind.

So far dealing with John has been great, and it has been a ball planning the layout and features of “my boat”. To each their own, but I think anyone who is looking at a Glass Tiller should take a look at these boats.

Bearpaw has amazing service and they rent cabins at a very reasonable rate.

It would be nice if they sold them in a decent container….one that did not leak.

That happened on a suburban I had. It ended up being the fuel pump was going. Ended up completly going out on me up at Lake of the woods. This was just my experience. I don’t know how to check the status of the fuel pump.

I have had both and I can’t say that I prefer one over the other. Each is better in different situations. One thing I like about the lifting tailgate now is that I can open just the glass if I want. Also allows you to really pack it full that way….just make sure you open the glass first when you get there. Either way you are getting the best SUV out there.

In my opinion they should have their passports revoked….they obviously do not have the brain power to handle the responsibility. I agree with the other poster that they were brought up thinking that “I can do anything mentality”. I do not understand why they are recieving a heros homecoming. It reminds me a lot of Mr Timothy Treadwell…the guy who lived with the bears in Alaska. What do you think is going to happen when you put yourself in a dangerous environemnt. You may get away with it for a while, but when $h1t hits the fan you are stuck in an Iranian prison or end up in bear crap.

I am glad that they were able to come home….but it still makes me shake my head

I use a 10 foot Cableas steelhead rod. I love it..picks up the slack nicely. I do not cork that much so spending more than $50 did not make a lot of sense.

    Hey guys,

I have a few surface scratches that I would like to try and buff out, and I would also like to restore some of the shine as well, since the black color has got a little dull over the past few years. Any ideas?

    Look at http://www.larsensales.com

I have been using this for 3 years and it is great. I use the wonderfoam and the restore boat polish. The wonderfoam once or twice a year and the restore polish after taking it out of the lake. I have a black lund and I now exactly what you are talking about. I just cleaned my boat and it is like a mirror. It is a 1700 Explorer and it took me about 45 minutes to clean the whole thing. I would suggest contacting larsensales and telling them what you are planning to do, he will call you back and explain the whole process, or I can too if you want more details. It is 11.90 for each of the 2 products I mentioned. I have been using it for 3 years and am still using the same bottles. You will be amazed how well this works.

I think that a lot of people realize that there posts are not just read by the registered members, but lurkers. Sharing information with other fishing buddies is fine, but when you are giving out good info to lurkers and then find your spot(s) crammed with people it might make you leery to post. I helped out a guy on another site about a city spot he asked for some info on. I gave it to him and watched as he posted repeatedly how well he did there, exact lake, times, spot, lures, depth. That really curbed how much I info I am willing to put into a post.

They sell them at Cabelas in Rogers as well. I beleive that they are like tracker……for 13K you get a 50 horse pushing that tub around. If you want to get the 90 the price goes up high enough that you might as well by a different boat.

I would also recommend Wright and McGill Rods. I like them in the 7 foot length for bouncers, but they make them longer too. They specialize in Salmon/Trout fishing and they have some great trolling rods. About the same price as a GLoomis.

There are signs posting what it is for and they are not small. As you drive by the lake(where you can see it from) There is a large Banner hanging on the fence explaining what it is all about.

I live in Buffalo. The deal with the truck is that it is a fundraiser. You buy a ticket and guess the day and hour that it goes down. It has no engine, tranny, anything that would hurt the lake. There is a giant sign explaining all of this on shore right where this photo was taken from so the photographer must have missed it.

Also it is only about 200 yards from shore — directly in front of the access so it can be easily towed in. There is a big bouy attached to it with a chain as well.

I have been using Shimano Symmetres and Saharas and love them. I just got a Shimano Saros and so far it has been excellent. I do not think that you can go wrong with Shimano.

3 years ago I was in a picnh on a fishing trip and needed a reel. The only one they had at a “Ma an Pa” Baitshop that would work was a Abu Garcia 301. It was 29.99 I think. It has turned out to be a great reel, and not just for the money either. It is a great all around reel with a smooth drag.

I had a Older Merc and had problems with the slipping handle. My problem was that there was a plastic part in there that broke. In my case it was becasue I was using at below freezing temps and the handle froze and I broke it loose. I called Rapid Sports on 65 and they sold me the part, and I put it in my self. Mine was an 84 though so it might be a different problem.

Yes Ross was great and his service was top notch. The houses were great. We went the rental house option because I was bringing my son, and thought we would have to fish outside to get fish, but only one fish came from out of his house, and we fished outside quite a bit. We are definately going back.

That is starting to take shape. I did the same thing three winters ago. I ripped it out to the bare aluminum as well.

Good luck and keep us updated with the progress

Suburban Hands down. I have been fishing on lake of the woods with Buddies and you see them pull all that Frozen stuff out of their truck in the morning. their House canvas is frozen, their poles are stuck..even the new otter poles. Mine is all nice and Warm in the back of the suburban. See how easy your Auger is after being used the day before and spending the night in the back of your PU at -30F. I can fit an 7 foot Otter in the burb and pulls the boat like a dream. The only reason to go for a pickup would be to save some money, which can be a good reason. Wait there is one more…if you have a hunting dog, I don;t have one, but I could see that being a stinky ride.

Well The trip to the mississippi was great. The scenery was something that I had not expected, adn the fishing was good. We got on the water by 6:30(launched at the campground in Atikin. We decided to troll #5 shadraps and by 8 we had four keepers. One about 2 pounds. We got some more throughout the morning, incuding some dandy smallmouth, but no more walleyes. Thanks for the tips guys.

Thanks for the info guys. Spent last night in the ER with my son who decided to knock a dining room chair over while he was on it. I was positive that he would need stiches, but no just super glue. With this latest development mom is a little overprotective so I may no be taking him fishing this weekend. If that is the case I will be out there by myself, or at Winnie. If any of you guys are out there and see an all silver Lund with a Yamaha 25 say hi.
