I was up at the cabin on Saturday. Got out to one of my shallow spots (10ft) for a couple of hours that afternoon. Ended up getting 4 fish. 3 that were 15-18″ and one that was around 23-24″. Also so a guy about 50 yards away from me get a good 25-28″ fish on a tip up. I wish I would have looked down my hole when I caught the 23″-24″, would have definitely been able to see it hit.

If the US had something to offer like Mexico then I would definitely stay. But Mexico is just an awesome country. I love everything about it (except the cartel of course). The bass fishing is the best in the world and I will keep going down there.

Here is a message I just got from the guy I work with that helps with my Mexico trips and goes down there all the time.

It is a bad joke. More government BS. Honestly, nothing has changed or is any different down there than it has been for decades.
This is basically a re-spin of what the State Dept. has communicated for a very long time. It’s nothing new.
The only thing that is different is that they decided to launch a new worldwide “Travel Guidance Advisory System”, in order to differentiate more clearly the difference in a travel alert, warning, advisement, etc. It’s honestly more for the government employees, but then they say they want the public to know the internal restrictions they may put on themselves…and then cover their ass by communicating it to the world, and needlessly scaring people.
Honesty. Those people killing each other over our money, and the rights/routes to sell us illegal drugs don’t care about gringo tourists.
It’s ironic, because they actually respect Americans, since we are their customer. The last thing they want to do is mess with a gringo bring the heat upon themselves.
Again, this is nothing new, and nothing has suddenly changed…other than them launching their “new and improved” travel guidance system.

Im heading down to Lake El Salto in two weeks and this is located in Sinoloa which is one of the travel areas as well. We get picked up from the airport and travel main highways all the way to the lake. This will be the 4th time Ive been down to Mexico fishing and have never felt like we are in danger. Also I know a lot of guys that drive across the boarder to fish in Mexico and they are safe as well. They always advise don’t go off road and don’t drive at night. Be smart about where you go and you will be fine. Most drug cartel are not going to want to mess with tourists because it will bring a lot of attention to the area.

Johnson Portside had a facebook video update yesterday from Chapmans. 8″ of ice in Isle bay and Chapman’s ventured out a mile from the bay and had 6″ of ice.

I was up at the cabin on the NE side this weekend. Ice as far as the eye could see. More ice heaves and ridges than I’ve ever seen. I walked about maybe 50 yards and popped a couple holes and there was probably close to 4″. The first 50 yards off shore wasn’t to choppy but a good 100-200 yards out all the heaves and ridges started. Didn’t venture much further than 50 yards out. With the cold weather coming this week and next the NE side should be good to go in a week or two.

I like mine when I actually use it. I tend to forget to bring it or don’t bring it because I don’t want to spend the time editing. Even know it’s pretty easy to edit these days. But when I do use it, I love it.

Thanks. I use to be apart of another forum that just kind of went downhill a few years ago and have hoping something like this would pop up. Can’t believe I didn’t know about it until yesterday.

I think it’s because bass just seem to thrive better in most smaller lakes. You catch more bass in those lakes because 99% of the time there are more bass in that lake. Now go to Mille Lacs, Leech, and LOTW and there’s a good chance you get more eyes than bass. Mille Lacs is heading in that direction. A lot of bass guys caught way more eyes this year than smallies. But of course there aren’t any eyes in that lake ????

And it happens both ways. I know eye guys that have had great days on smallies out on Mille Lacs and the bass guys are struggling. I’ve also had days where I crushed the eyes and talked to some guys out eye fishing and they struggled. It happens. I am looking forward to smacking the eyes on Mille Lacs this hardwater season.

I think it’s funny you eye guys think the walleye is the number 1 fish but yet the bass is the most sought after sport fish around. Oh but it’s so easy to catch bass. You can throw anything at them and they will bite. Maybe in a farm pond or a lake that is over populated. Not happening on a regular lake. If they are so easy then you should enter the local tourneys and bring all the winnings home. I mean, they are easy to catch.

I just never understood the argument of one species being better than the other. I prefer bass for the fight and the techniques to catch them. Topwater, skipping docks, flipping timber. Too me that’s way better than vertical jigging sand or mud flats or trolling cranks. But that’s just my opinion. Doesn’t mean I think walleye fishing is terrible. I do it during the ice season and also hit pool 2 early spring and also do it during opener on Mille Lacs. And the best part about that is I am catching a ton of eyes using my bass gear. Who would have thought the smart eye would hit a lipless crankbait or a jerkbait. Weird -) By the way this is my first post on the forum haha.
