i havent been there for awhile but for bass i always had my best luck on docks. they hang shallow due to the muskies. kawagasauga, minocqua, etc all have docks, find the ones with deeper water. there are some good ones just under the bridge from minocqua to kawaga on the right as you enter kawaga. also mud lake – go to the right on entering there is an island there with pads between it and shore. good luck

2 new rod lines to watch for
We are now shipping our Coalition Weapon Series. This is a Camo Series that was built in conjunction with Army Bass Anglers ( ABA ). It’s a Digital Camo Rod that looks and feels awesome. We’ve had so much intestest that we started adding models to the line about 2 months ago. Limited inventory for a little while.
Savvy Micro Series, also shipping now! We took our popular Savvy Series and also added a complete line with Micro Guides. These are very popular already. Inventory was awesome for about 4 hours, now limited a bit, but plenty on the way.
August 30, 2011 at 3:15 am #991787Awesome- great smiles from both of you. Better put that rod in the rod box for thursday- might be a lucky one!
August 28, 2011 at 8:17 am #991408Yep- definately an issue- I have been trying the albright knot this year for braid to fluoro. I must say it holds up well but can be tricky to tie. The advantage of it is it is much smaller, and the fluoro is not wrapped around itself as with a uni-uni. I think the surgeons wraps also but could be mistaken.
August 26, 2011 at 1:57 am #990988I may have to try that yozuri, i find braid casts way better than most fluoro or mono especially after 2-3 outings
August 26, 2011 at 1:55 am #990987That is a tank for sure! Just a thought but try a 20-30 lb braid with 8-10 foot fluoro leader if you want- works well here but the water is much, much dirtier than there. might be worth a try.
August 25, 2011 at 2:33 am #990769congrats to BC for advancing.
I was there and didnt fare so well, but was part of the Iowa team that won for the first time in almost 20 yearsAugust 25, 2011 at 2:32 am #990768what swim jig are you using? many of the ones in the midwest are a thinner hook than a traditional jig– try some from brovarney (my favorite) or lethal weapon jigs. also these tend to hook them in the roof of the mouth where a traditional jig might rotate and get em in the fleshy part. both are hand tied which imo is a must. lean into them when the road loads. good luck
August 25, 2011 at 2:27 am #990767Its hard (for me)to cover water punching so i often throw a brovarney swim jig or a frog to find fish, and if the bite shuts down or the slop looks like a county road map from all the frogs ill punch with or without a punch skirt. It is a fun way to fish for sure!
August 25, 2011 at 2:26 am #990766Im like most 40 lb braid in slop/pads or mud
15-20 lb fluoro if its clear water and less weedsWith braid not much hookset needed, almost lean into them like a crankbait. I use brovarney swim jigs almost exclusively. rod i had an old avid 70mhxf that was a good one, the new action is not the same- now i use a dobyns 733 for open water and a 744 in the heavy stuff.
April 8, 2011 at 12:21 am #955060Tuperware is great, or 3700 boxes, the other thing i would suggest is a Cooks tackle system or similar. It attaches to the lid of your storage compartments, very functional and versatile. There are several companies with similar products

March 14, 2011 at 8:29 pm #947065i think the tourneys are under I-Bass series tournaments. There is the Harpers open in April and I think a series on traverling pools as well
December 9, 2010 at 1:58 am #915625i have the 735 frog rod and love it. not sure if you can use both your college discount and the holiday discounts but they usually have 15% off during major holidays. If you dont like it you will be able to sell it for about what you paid. also tw has free shipping on them
November 5, 2010 at 2:38 am #908071piggy from the quad city area from 11-3. taped out at 21.5″. crankbaits on rocks near deep(er) water. I caught about 40, 12-15 keepers.
September 3, 2010 at 2:33 pm #897310Here is an easy way to do it- just fill in the blanks with your zip and it automatically sends it to your politicians. thanks for the post Duke.
It is the 2nd subject down dated 8/31/10
http://www.keepamericafishing.orgAugust 17, 2010 at 1:50 pm #893814Just going to put in 2 cents. Tourneys bring $ for studies, habitat improvement and facility improvement. Also towns (motels, restaurants, gas stations, tackle, etc, etc) benefit from more money into the community. Often times tourneys also participate in studies and provide tons of data in a small time frame for fisheries managers. Say what you want-yes it is a waste, and yes people do stress over dead fish in a tourney and do whatever possible to keep them alive- overall i think the benefit of tourneys to fisheries and communities outweighs the downfalls.
The more we learn, the lower the mortality and like cade pointed out there are steps that can be done to limit immediate mortality. As for delayed mortality it is difficult to measure for tourneys and pleasure fishing.
July 16, 2010 at 1:55 pm #887320Im coming up sunday for a club tourney. No prefish. could be interesting
April 9, 2010 at 2:35 am #862345Robby and I got out for about 3 hours yesterday in a traditional pool 13 SPRING spot. It was typical JJ + Rob= tornados, near freezing rains and north winds. We caught some but not fast and furious, just great to spend some time in the boat with a friend! Our combined best 5 was 15+ lbs.
March 20, 2010 at 12:56 pm #855542all good tips, one thing i would do is when you go to brovarney web site check out the links to info on swim jigs. lots of good info re trailers, etc on there
February 25, 2010 at 7:55 pm #846279Ill second the curados for toughness. Revos are great for awhile but seem to wear down easier. The old green curados are tanks, the new ones i guess the jury is still out but i havent had a problem. I think pfleuger are awesome in the store but otw performance/longevity not as good as either revo or curado imho. look out for bass pro sales or tackle warehouse sales to get them under $150. I think bass pro still has that reel exchange in march where you can bring an old one in and get a new one for $50 off
February 4, 2010 at 8:20 pm #839774Just got back from my annual winter pilgrimage south in search of warm weather, open water and big bass. Fished with Tom Redington again this year and as always had a great time. Tom is an excellent teacher- rarely do you go more than a couple minutes without some teaching point re bass migration, lure selection, or some other tip. His sense of humor is top notch and he is a great guy to spend a day or 3 in the boat with. As per my luck, ne texas had a 2 week warming trend that ended the day I got there. We never saw the sun, it was 48-50 day 1, 38-40 and rainy day 2 and 28-32 day 3. My biggest was 7-5, throw in a couple 6 lb and a handful of 4-5 lb fish and that was it. It was extremely slow for us and the other boat (singular) on the water. It wasnt as cold as January 08 but it was close..
I highly recommend this cure for cabin fever as even on slow cold days the thought of a lunker on the next cast keeps you going all day and the trip ends too soon every year. Give Tom a call, im or email to get hooked up.
Good luck at the red river FLW Tom! JJ
November 24, 2009 at 8:57 pm #818184Nice! I have been getting some down here too. If I recall correct i think we had ice by now last year- it was an early, long winter
