i ended up going to DRock this last weekend and got my auger pitched…..everyone there was great and the guy that re-pitched the auger showed me how to do it myself if i wanted to (but for only costing $12 i dont mind bringing it back to them) later that night i went out fishing and it cuts perfectly. also for anyone that has auger issues or wants a tune up id highly recommend going to DRock……after the season is over im going to take my auger back and get a full tune up, they said depending obviously on what parts i need and what needs to be done it should run me around $60……not bad if you ask me when you are spending $300+ on a piece of equipment

so i went out today to see how the auger cuts. i ended up taking off the new blades and reinstalling them (just to see if that did anything) and it didnt help. to really get the auger to grab and cut well i did need to put some downward pressure on the auger (which i know i shouldnt have to do). Next thing to try is install the old blades and see if there is any difference. guess ill start the elimination process P

ive never stood the auger up in a partial hole or bang it up and down…..i thought it could of been the ice build up? im gonna take the blades off and reinstall them first and see what that does

    thanks for the replies

i steer clear from the crowds as well. what i do when dealing with the crowds is look for secondary locations. case in point a few years ago on mille lacs i wanted to put my buddies wheel house on the inside turn of a mud flat and it was peppered with people…..just down from that inside turn we found a really nice steep break maybe a few hundred yards away from where everyone else was set up and it payed off

ive never been lake trout fishing, but would love to try it. there are a few episodes of IDO were they walk out from Duluth and get into them (just an idea’r) the clear ice story is great….i have one too. last year i was up on Mille Lacs with the little lady and she likes to clear the snow away from the hole that she is fishing. so i was out punching holes bummin’ around and i heard her scream she had one on. so i ran over and started to help her out (at the time she had a broken wrist) so as im fighting this fish i knew it was big and because she cleared all the snow away from the hole we finally saw it……27″ pig. we got her up outta the lake, took a few quick pics and back she went…..it was definitely a memory maker!!

    Michael –

i think i understand what you are doing here which is not correct (sorry) the new file (update) is called “LX-7MAIN” …..when you plug in your LX7 to your computer and open it you will see a “READ-ME” file…..dont drag and drop the new update file onto that. what you need to do is drag the new update file into the LX7s folder. dont drag the update file on top of the “READ-ME” file (youll see itll get highlighted if you do)

when you plug in your LX7 and your computer recognizes it open it up, right click and hold onto the update file (LX-7MAIN) drag the file into the LX-7s folder (right below the read-me file and it will copy over – remember dont copy on top of that read-me file)

hopefully this makes sense……if you have any questions let me know, i can walk you through it

i recently received my longboard noodle from D&H and i can see that rod being a good deadstick. i originally ordered it to be a longer hole hopping noddle rod (32in) which will still be its main purpose, but after putting some line on the reel and seeing how it loads up a deadstick application could be very good

went to woodlands last march, did their fish house package, fishing was ok but they did their best to keep us on fish. the lodge is amazing, great restaurant and im headed back this year with my dad the 2nd week of march and going to stay in one of their cabins this time (stayed in the motel last year) and doing the fish house package again. this year though we are bringing my dads atv and are going to try and go off on our own a little more. its an amazing place, i highly recommend it.

if you have any questions feel free to message me

ive never used one but id obviously say use a rod that is somewhat tailored to the species you are fishing for….

Also i could be (and probably are) wrong but arent these types of setups not allowed in MN? i thought i heard somewhere that you cant use them…..like i said im probably wrong

the internet is your friend, just search google and youll find all kinds of stuff, the website iceshanty.com has an entire thread about just this sort of thing. also check out thorne bros facebook page for their fish house modification event and they have a bunch of pictures of what people have done. i know things like different cargo nets can be super helpful, but even as simple as milk crates can work too.

Id say go with a hand auger to start, yes its not the fastest or easiest way to drill holes, but you can see if your son enjoys it then spend more money on a power auger later on

last year i went up to devils for the first time and stayed at woodlands and fished creel…..this was the first week of march but remember last year the ice season ended soon. we had roughly 3-4in of water on top of the ice when we were there. the little lady and i fished both shallower water in creel for eyes and as deep as 40+ feet for perch. it was a tricky bite for sure, but enjoyable none the less. my dad and i are headed back to woodlands this coming season the second week of march.

if you want more info on stuff just PM me and ill let ya know
