alpaca socks work better than wool, especially when wet – might be worth a try

both on sale – both small light and comfortable
My 8 y/o fishes a custom rod I made him – 26″ L glass with a president
Keep them on fish to stay interested in the obsession – nice to see other dads taking their kids out!
That would be great Chris. I have looked all over for pics of differnt colour combos but have not been very sucessfull. I wish TUCR’s had a gallery of high quality pics, it would make ordering custom much easier as I am in canada and am ordering blind as there are no suppliers near me. I am planning on the percison rod and paring it with a Pfluger supre xt, so trying to match the colours as close as I can but its hard from a crappy low quality picture of the wrap colours.
Sulky Holoshimmer Metalic – Light Copper

The gray is easy to match… just use one of the color’s you can find here
TUCR should have them all
through ice mapping would only work if you were making constant contact with the ice…you’d have to slide the transducer across the ice to keep a steady, non-0, return. The map would show false positive high spots
post up some pictures when finished – I am a bit partial to the holoshimmer vs normal metallic but would be interested to see the results
this is the color to match that copper on the supreme xt

you can do the same with the standard transducer as well, swing it in the hole, make a “beam bender” http://www.beambender.com/ or similar
the 9-1521 just gives you more options/chirp. you’re right the 9-20 will work fine but lacks a bit when you go beyond the auto/out of box setup
you’d be better off just buying a new helix ice unit vs trying to buy the transducer separate right now
you’ll see more reliable flag trips on a finicky fooler when using a stiffer rod – reason being the flag trip lever will move before the rod tip absorbs the pull force. You will catch more fish, especially those who tend to drop the bait when they feel the load of the rod tip vs tripping the flag and pulling the free spool line.
it’ll tell you the bottom coverage in the flasher menu – you’re gonna have to drill a lot of holes! I mapped my small pond using a rowboat, could you not do the same in some of the best looking spots on these lakes?

Nightly news had a story where the had rows of insulated Eskimo hubs set up for the homeless in California. Pretty sure the government is willing to pay more than the fishermen. How many of those hubs do you think became a porta potty?
Judging by my last trip to LA, every single one of them lol
In Iowa you need a dnr reg sticker to ice fish an ATV – pretty sure sd and mn require an out of state reg too, I know wisconsin does. Iowa will ticket you for 2 on a 1 rider atv if you cross paths with the wrong officer. You’re right tho, it is much safer than dragging someone in a sled
Here’s the link for Iowa https://www.iowadnr.gov/things-to-do/off-highway-vehicles/ohv-registration
is it a 2up? if not, you might get a ticket for riding 2 depending on where you live. Get a trail pass/state registration too if you don’t have it already
more rain, more nutrients = more bloom
algae lifecycle impacts o2 content in water and when combined with high heat can cause fish kill. Those big dead catfish might have died during spawn however – catfish can tolerate some crazy high temps and low o2
algae isn’t bad, it is essential for a healthy body of water and supporting the food chain – bad thing is low hot water that sees a large amount of rain driven nutrient load in a short amount of time that shocks the system and disrupts the balance. Blame the weather than the nutrients in the runoff
traps work great actually – I’ve been using a bag trap for a few years and have much less this year than any other. Moles and gophers take care of the larva.
The beetles that end up in the trap are dumped into my pond and fed to my fish
You honestly don’t need a guide unless you want them to outfit you with gear – it is so easy to get on fish in that area. There are numerous “community” holes there, each produce fish. Hit those areas hard and fast, move to stay on schools of perch. Max out your lines with dead sticks/tip downs.
You will likely not catch any walleye through the ice there
Fish during the week and hit early walkable ice – less crowds

Great reel for the money
Gander still has their sale on Trion 20’s – great price and an excellent budget reel
https://www.ganderoutdoors.com/pflueger-trion-spinning-reel-645659.html
Keep in mind the smallest okuma is similar in size to a 25 pflueger. I have an okuma stratus v which is the same as a cemar – it is an ok reel if you get it on sale.
The diawa qz 750 is also a very, very nice reel https://daiwa.us/collections/reels/products/qz-750
North Hero is in the middle of Champlain….there’s tons of access around there, what’s the problem? Did they actually close the park or don’t want to plow the roads due to lack of funds? I’ve been to that area several times as I used to travel to Brandon and Richford often for work, stayed in Burlington for a while too, have driven the loop during winter….I’m sure if you asked nicely enough someone would let you get on via their lake frontage at a cabin/house.
Can you provide which (brand/ size) sample jars you use?
I’m a big fan of the 1” gulp minnow, but I’m tired of the jars constantly leaking.
put an oring under the lid
What model do you have? What software? What voltage does the display show for the battery? Transducer? What settings are you using?
https://www.youtube.com/c/TheTechnologicalAngler/videos there is a video for just about every helix setting/feature on this channel
its to prevent transducer driver damage….its a very smart thing they would do that
PmB you can add weight to the trigger arm for bigger bait, velcro on a cylinder shaped drop shot weight
