Found this on Amazon, it worked perfectly. I could feel the texture on the bottom of the tank after I used it (inside the tank). I drained the mixture into a pail instead of running it by my fuel filter.

I was told by a friend that owns a tire store…drive the vehicle for 10 miles or so..then hit the top of the thread with a thermogun, and then hit the side wall if the temps are the same you are good to go…if Top thread is hotter you are over inflated, if sidewall is hotter…you are under inflated..I think he said that’s what Nascar does..? (May not apply to your gig)

lol lol Thank You Famous its a 6 ton paperweight well put. I sprayed starting fluid at the air filter, and ran it for about 25 minutes So I am up and running…used Lucas upper cylinder lubricant (that been on my shelf for years) Last time I changed my fuel filter, I bled the injectors the old fashioned way, and after almost giving up…I told my wife one more try, if it does not start I am going to remove the air filter and spray diesel down her throat with a spray bottle (old farmers trick). She fired up…still what a hassle..lol Looks like it’s time for Tank Removal using the chain to clean with. I may take my Dremel and rough up the links a bit for a more aggressive sludge remover. will use everyone’s advice from alcohol to antibiotics (lol just kidding) to remove the sludge and the bacteria. Thank You all !!

Thank You Famous, I have the Shop Manual for the 545 will have to see what’s all involved to remove the tank…what are your thoughts about using a pressure washer? to clean the tank. I even have an oil extraction gig (for my boat oil changes) I like the nuts and bolt method…not going to be fun

Ok… I have a Culligan Gold series softener (9×34?) I know that it has appx. 1 cubic foot of resin from reading a shop manual years ago (I might even own it,it’s here somewhere lol) My question is….When Culligan rents you a softener tank (that is not cost effective), how much “resin” is in their rental water softener tanks (ie 2 cu ft, or 3 cu ft) The specs on my gold states what the capacity in grains a unit can handle instead of resin quantity. My Culligan Gold is 17 years old, I have installed a new rebuild kit (piston O-ring gig) every 7 years or so. My cost factor so far (still counting) is $2.50 per week or $10 month (plus cost of salt). Again how my feet of resin in a Culligan “rental” tank (Big galvanized steel tank)…? Eelpoutguy..? lol

Most of it was before the net was even popular (hands on)…I have torn down Sears units (junk) repeatedly, Culligan units, junk… until their Gold series gave them a good housekeeping seal. Reading shop manuals. Few forums not many on softeners.

Is this the best source for Water Softener info…? Many seem knowledgeable… I have three decades dealing with softeners…always looking for more info.
