When I lived in Colorado my wife and neighbors wife decided it was a good idea to plant pollinators around the mail boxes. They grew well and had a lot of bee traffic. After our neighbors sold their house and moved the new neighbor lady ripped out the pollinators claiming they looked like weeds and she didn’t like bees anyway. Wife was not happy. Made for a couple uncomfortable years until we moved.

We’ve had about 15″ since Thursday night here in north Iowa. I wish I could send some of it up to the guys fighting the fires.

I’ve been watching EV fairly closely lately. I own a parts store and run a delivery van 25K+ miles a year. As soon as Ford comes out with the Transit Connect in EV I will own one. I’ll just trade my $300 dollars in gas for a vehicle payment and have very little maintenance. Run it for 100K and start over. I don’t think I want an EV for my personal truck, but in the correct setting they make very good sense.

If you will be heating the garage with a steel ceiling you should add a poly vapor barrier before installing the metal. It will slow air movement up through your insulation negating any R value.

Like Ripjiggen said. Big old fish die. And with the slot of 21-23″ fewer fish will be able to reach that 25″ mark. You can’t have it both ways.

In 2017 the 3.5EB was redesigned to take care of the timing chain stretch by using 2 shorter chains rather than 1 very long chain. They also put small fuel injectors in the intake runners above the valves to wash down the top of the intake valves to take care of the coking problem around the valve stems.( A problem all direct injection engines have ) I have a 2017 F150 with the 3.5 EB. Love it. I pull my 619DVS with little problem and get between 13-14mpg depending upon headwind. I get 21-22mpg empty if I can keep my foot out of it. When I bought the truck I was couldn’t make up my mind between the 5.0 and EB. The 10 speed transmission made the decision for me.

My favorite all around walleye rod is the 7′ ML St.Croix Eyecon.
Incredible feel, good tip, with a lot of backbone. For $140 it would be hard to beat.

One of my kids favorite ways to have Spam. Cubed into about 1/2 x 1/2 inch cubes. Fry in a pan until browned on all sides. Add 1 can of drained pineapple chuncks. Let brown a little more. Add barbeque sauce. Let simmer until heated though. Serve over rice. I add a little siracha for a bit more zip.
Also a thin fried slice on a venison burger is delicious.

The effects of economy are regional. In northern Iowa we are effected by the farming economy more than the small business economy. With crop prices being down most of 2020 we have seen farmers tightening their belts. This fall prices have begun to increase and we have seen that money on main street. We have manufactures in the area producing everything from socks to garbage trucks and all are looking for more employees. I’m a small business owner. Lucky enough to be called essential, and I have to say business has been good. Not outstanding but good. The big cities on the coasts are much harder hit than those of us in the midwest.

Fished Saturday July 11. 7am-2pm west of Brevick out to Pelican Island. Marked lots of fish from 15-24′. Marked lots of bug hatch clouds also. Caught a bunch of small perch and 2 walleye, 17 and 23. Pulled crawlers and leeches.

Let’s look at the numbers realistically. Minnesota has a population of about 5.6mil. The latest Covid dashboard shows 1025 people in ICU. If my math is correct that is about .018 percent of the population. And of that a large portion will survive. Minnesota had well over 300 automobile fatalities in 2019. That should put Covid into perspective. I’m tired of the news agencies and social media going on about big numbers with no context. Covid 19 should be respected not feared.

I am all for protesting and freedom of speech, but when it infringes upon others freedom of movement (blocking roads and highways), destruction of property (looting and burning), and putting others at risk (no police or fire protection) it is illegal. The looting, burning, and destruction of public property has now overshadowed the tragic death of a human being and the struggle for equal rights and equal treatment.
After the Russian Revolution statues of the Czars were torn down. After the “end of communism in Russia” statues of Lennon and Stalin were torn down. Sadam statues were removed from Iraq. All public tribute to Hitler and the Nazi party were removed and made illegal in Germany.
As a history buff, I see the removal of statues as another page in history. Whether it is in our country or other. I do not like it, but that is what it is now. Where will it stop? Lincoln memorial? Mount Rushmore? The big walleye in Garrison?

I also use the 7′ Fenwick when I’m in Minnesota or Canada and can only use one rod. Doubles as my spoon and spinner bait rod for pike and bass. Handles 2oz bottom bouncers well. Whatever rod you get make sure it has a moderate to moderate fast action. I want the walleye to be able to load the rod. Missed too many on too stiff of a rod.

Infection rate means very little since most people will only have the flu with slight breathing problems. What I want to now is how many people need hospitalization.

Dumb question, but are you using the low speed setting? If you are using the high speed it will eat batterys. I have a DEwalt 20v with 5ah batteries and get about 600in of ice.

I do not have any personal use of the CBD products, but my father does. He has had 8 back surgeries and suffers from arthritis and bone spurs on his spine. He began taking CBD oil about 2 years ago and using the cream. He has tried the bargain oil and has found that it is not of the same quality as the premium. I don’t know if this is just a placebo drug, but I do know it has allowed him to cut back on his pain meds. And I had him out in the boat this summer, the first time in 8 years. Call it snake oil or placebo, I don’t care. If it offers him some relief call it gold.

Not only do our Goldens get on the couch, they will only lay where they can put their head on the pillows. If your sitting on the end with the pillows they will climb right in your lap to get to the pillows. Company has found this out the hard way.

Kimber Micro in 380. Soft shooter, good sights, great trigger, and easily concealable. And did I say it is a Kimber. Seriously, the good trigger will make her a better shooter and feel more comfortable with the gun. The longer heavier trigger pull of even the striker fired guns make it more difficult for a novice shooter.

I’ve had the RTIC 20 softside for 2 years now. I would agree that when I first got it the zipper was almost impossible. But, do what Grouse said and it will be much easier. Still stiff but much easier. I love my RTIC, best boat cooler I’ve owned.

I have the Cabin. It’s a great size for 2 people and gear. Much too small for 3. I’m thinking of selling my Cabin and moving up to something a bit larger.

I was at Hunters this last weekend. They have roads out to the flats. It was a zoo.

I am sorry I was wrong. First offense for passing stopped school bus is 30 days without a license in Iowa.

You are lucky you don’t live in Iowa. Since the house and senate passed the new law. Passing a school bus is a hefty fine and up to one year suspended license. There is no gray area about lights. If you pass when the lights are red and the arm is out you are in the wrong. I am on our local school board and when we order new buses now they all have a camera in them that turns on automatically when the top yellows go on and there is an icon in the corner of the camera frame for when the reds are on and stop arm out. If you are on the camera and that icon is in the frame you are guilty.

My go to is a good deer skin glove. Once broken in, they conform to your hand and offer great dexterity. And are still warm even when wet. Only drawback is that when you wear them wet for extended periods your hands turn a little orange.

Sharon M, I do believe there is a double standard in the work place. If a female isn’t pleasant and happy everyday they are hard to work with, unapproachable, or worse. But, if a man is the same he is just a man, what do you expect? I don’t agree. My wife works for a large manufacturing facility doing HR and payroll. If one of the floor supervisors or workers come into her office and ask for something and she doesn’t respond with a smile and “I’ll get right on that.” She is deemed a 6itch and her boss tells her she needs to improve her attitude. Hang in there we’re all pullin for ya.

Has anyone used circle hooks on crawler harnesses behind bottom bouncers. In theory it should work since the walleye usually grab on and the movement of the boat sets the hook. Maybe I’ll tie some this winter and try them next spring. If I do I’ll let you know.

I went to college at a small school in eastern Iowa. My roommate and I liked to go out pheasant and rabbit hunting in the afternoon then bring them back to the dorm and cook them in a crockpot. With some cold refreshments it made quite a feast.
The week before Christmas break we had some good hunting and decided that we would put on a welcome back feast for all our buddies when we got back in January.
What we didn’t know was that the housekeeping staff in an effort to save on electricity for the month went through all the dorm rooms and unplugged our fridge freezers.
On the Sunday before class. When we were all supposed to meet for our feast. I headed back to college. When I opened the stairwell door to head up to the 4th floor I knew something wasn’t right. As I climbed the stairs the stench grew stronger and stronger. I opened the door to the 4th floor and I was positive what had happened. 5 or 6 rabbits and pheasants had thawed out and were now running out of the freezer across the dorm room floor and into the hall. The stench was beyond words. Needless to say we were not very well liked by housekeeping and maintenance after that. And we had to leave our window open with a fan blowing out the whole semester.

My local DNR agent here in Iowa told me one rooster can service all the hens in a square mile. Lucky rooster.
