look at Hobbs resort or Moak lodge on Cross bay of Cedar Lake Manitoba. Drive to resort about 3.5 hours north of the Border. Outstanding big pike fishing and the walleye fishing is excellant as well. Cedar lake flows into the North end of lake Winnipeg just a few miles away. Only about 5 miles of gravel into camp the rest is pavement.

Duty free is ok if you want a bottle of crown royal or something you might save a few bucks. As far as beer goes they ussualy ask you how much you paid for it. We tell them we pay $20 a case at home so they charge us around $9 duty.
Where are you heading to in Canada? good luck!!, we leave in 5 weeks!!can’t wait!December 22, 2014 at 2:38 pm #1487027We just got back from a couple days at Ballards. The resort and cabins are great we had a great time, however the fishing was poor we had about 12 walleye each day caught. We had 12 people in our group. Our guides were very friendly and we had lots of fun. Hope the bite picks up there for the rest of you. Good luck
December 16, 2014 at 2:49 pm #1484793Did any one rfrom ballards drive their own vehicles out or did everyone ride the bombers?
December 15, 2014 at 2:49 pm #1484196Pat, hope you had a fun trip! I am eagerly awaiting your report as our group is heading up there this weekend.
How was the fishing?
did they let you drive out there?

January 10, 2014 at 8:41 am #1378794Kurt, Damn that sounds like a lot of work. Your advice sounds spot on though!I am going to zipple in a couple weeks for a long weekend to stay in a cabin
and fish in one of their houses, not exactly mobile I know, however Trevor borrowed me some of his slender spoons that should trigger the bite! lol hope your having a good winter!!July 27, 2013 at 10:45 pm #1186068Just got back home today from first nation guides outpost on sabaskong bay. Nice cabin beautiful scenery, however the walleye fishing proved to be pretty tough. We traveled as far north and west as stairway point. We used a clicker and caught an average of 25 walleyes a day for 3 of us. 23″ being the biggest with a a couple 22″, 1 – 21″ 6 – 20″ all the way down to a fingerling. We found our best fishing in miles bay 20 to 25 FOW. Went through a flat of crawlers pulling spinner rigs. We finally got a leech bite going yesterday with 16th oz Jigs tipped with some nice leeches from gills in morson.
The highlight of the trip for me was hooking 2 different muskies and having 2 other follow ups. All over 45″ fish and I am no Musky fisherman example is I don’t even own a bucktail had to borrow one from my brother in law.. haha
Also we got pulled over by the CO for a spotcheck and that was a very pleasant experience as he was very nice and happy to answer any questions we had.
We did try a bunch of reefs, however we only caught a handful of eyes on them and we didn’t really mark any fish on them either. We even fished a couple reefs that are not mapped

August 21, 2012 at 7:59 pm #1093806It seems every year when we go to canada nothing is the same as far as a pattern. We usually start out in the good spots from the year before and they aren’t as hot as we remember so we find new places and usually different depths till we find a pattern. I guess thats called fishing. Where do you go on Rainy? I have always wondered about a trip there.
July 17, 2012 at 5:15 pm #1084928If they don’t want ramps at these public access anymore they should be roped off and people should be allowed to use them as a public beach and wintertime access at the very least. All closing them off accomplishes is giving the neighbors more lakeshore footage for free.. This is not right Furthermore if you are going to blockade something do it to the access on pelican and any other infested lakes and make the boats leaving go thru the washdown process and if staff is low then have set hours. I agree that invasives need to be stopped, but this is ridiculous
June 26, 2012 at 11:54 pm #1078966this thread has been pretty quite lately. Trev must be too busy to post. I was out last weekend and had real good luck in that 15 to 20′ range on the bottom side of the weedline with leeches and lindy rigs… good luck
June 20, 2012 at 1:00 am #1077226yes but on the canadian parts there are many islands to break the wind eh

March 9, 2012 at 1:32 am #1047582What a great deal. It was a fantastic idea, I wish the dnr would implement that on a few lakes as well . I am gonna come down this spring and dump the boat in and check it out for the first time… good luck fellas!!!!!
January 26, 2012 at 2:04 am #1032045no but I helped him cut it up, he said he was gona take it back to Iowa and cook walleye steaks for his buddies….
December 11, 2011 at 10:49 pm #1016774we went over the 4th this year and the other boat in our group caught a lot of nice walleyes pulling cranks in 5 to 15 feet. In my boat we tryed to force the jigging patterns that have been succesfull in years past and had spotty success. We booked for mid july next year at gawleys little beaver lodge near ear falls. Which part of the lake are you going to?
