I would encourage you to go to the Dakota Angler Ice Institute in Early November in Sioux Falls. Maybe can make some connections there.

Up in the Northeast some good Guides for the Waubay/Bitter Lake and surrounding areas would be Cory Ewing or Marcus Quam. They can do the big lakes our get off the beaten path alittle. Maybe could even help with finding Crappies or White Bass.

So I finally decided to dig my Camera out so I could send it in to Marcum. I decided to test it out 1 last time and now Damn it the stupid thing works perfect. Took 8 month of sitting I guess. So I’m thinking I’ll use this camera a couple times this year and the problem will come back. IS there a specific point where moisture can get into the camera. Maybe I’ll try and seal it up and hope it keeps working.

The main issue I’ve heard is the Tranny’s go out on them all the time.

As of today the Webster area lakes are pretty much snow free and any snow that is on the lake is hard as cement so travel should be A – ok.

Thanks for the help. I’m gonna work through a few steps myself – Also an email to Marcum to see what they think.

    Thanks

I think the limit should very much depend on where your talking.

In SD where I’m from Perch Grow Fast and Die young. Perch generally live 3-5 years max. A 12 inch Perch is likely 4 years old and there is 0 point in throwing it back. That fish will be dead within a year or probably less.

I wouldn’t be opposed to 10 perch per day instead of 15. Especially since they got ride of the possession limit.

When you paying $250 a man/per day or whatever they charge those spots are free game in my humble opinion.

Were you guys fishing on one of the big lakes (Bitter, Waubay, Poinsett etc etc) or did they have you on some smaller bodies of water??

I 100% agree with Fishthumper. I run a 8inch lite flite on a Milwaukee M18. Love the setup. I usually just bring out 2 5 AH Batteries. I use these batteries alot for lawn care around the house and they don’t hold near the charge as they did when new 3 years ago. I get the bogging down as well. I took a newer 8AH out last time and the sucker ripped.

I’m considering just buying a battery for ice fishing only

IF Jay Siemens, the Minndak Bros, Clayton Schick, NB Edits and the rest of those Youtubers fished Northland, VMC, Acme or any other brand the success would likely be very similar.

I’m not a huge fan of the Googans or Frostbite but they have utilized the audience they built on Youtube and have created a brand. Now they have extended there brand with the Utilization of other YouTubers.

I Almost guarantee it those guys were offered a $100,000 a year to fish VMC they would empty there tacklebox in a heartbeat.

Don’t Hate the Player Hate the Game. I’m not mad at em but there really isn’t anything special about alot of the Frostbite Lures.

If you fish Red early in the week this time of year is the lake traffic a lot less? I’d like to give Red a try.

I’m hoping for 5 inches of ice ASAP. Then it can just stay at 5 inches. When you only can walk out ice fishing is just special. Once the campers hit the lake I’d rather be elsewhere.

Westdan Yeah I was just messing with YOU – I couldn’t help myself – LOL

I would say Crappie Fishing in this part of the world isn’t all that special.

I agree with SoDak hire a SnoBear guy. Do it for day 1. Get a lay of the land – mark the spots they take you and then venture out on your own then there after.

Honestly NE SD is completely fished out. NO fish there. I live there and go elsewhere. I’d try literally anywhere but there. Just saying cool grin

This is a cool idea – I just bought a Garmin 73cv UHD and I’ve thought about trying the quickdraw contours feature for making maps on ice.

    I’m curious

How much area do you think you mapped with one hole?

Did you adjust your depth readings as your transducer would be likely a couple feet down the hole?

Dont lump everyone together. When i moved my house the other day i drove a complete circle back to where i was just so i didnt miss something that may have gotten underneath. That being said i drove by a house that was unoccupied that had so much garbage around you know they aint gonna clean it all up.

I was out plenty early this year and never saw any garbage when it was only walk out and wheelers and snowmobiles. Once the Permi’s are out and people are ice camping then there’s litter and crap everywhere. Thanks for doing your part. We picked up multiple items yesterday to try and help.

Just got a new Garmin 73cv UHD yesterday – WIll be using it for the 1st time on Saturday.

1st off this discussion has been helpful- thanks to all that have contributed

    Couple questions

Is there anywhere on the unit that displays the battery life or setting to add that somewhere. Percentage would be great

I noticed there is not a panoptics or livescope app on the home screen. IF I choose to add panoptics later will that app automatically just show up or is that something that has to be downloaded.

I see Scheels has both the 63CV Echomaps Plus ($449) and the 73cv Echomaps Plus ($579) on Sale. These are the older models as they now have the Garmin UHD Line.

What would be the drawbacks or differences between between the Plus line and the UHD Line.

I love a deal and have been looking at Garmins alot lately however If there’s major upgrades between the two I might hesitate to take advantage of the deal.

All in all if these Livescope setups or whatever rival version of them from Humminbird, Lowrance, or whatever company continue to cost in the $2500 range then I’m out now and down the road to.

One hope is that if all these new version continue to come the used market may look pretty nice not so far down the road.

Thought about this as well but there was some chatter about a livescope update coming this spring/summer so I decided to wait and see.

DO you think if a new unit was bought in 2021 that it wouldn’t be compatible? That would be an interesting business decision. It would limit those from upgrading but would also encourage buying all new packages. HMMMM

Ended up Sending the Baffin Impacts back to shoes.com for a refund. To bulky, to narrow and tight and they don’t work well with my bibs at all. Nice boot just not for me. I was in Running today and Tried on the Lacrosse Alphaburly 1600. Pretty impressed. I thinking they’ll work for me. The Snow camo patterns is hard to find right now. Luckily Reed’s had a size 13 – I upped 1.5 over shoes size – 25% off and free shipping . NICE.

I just received a New Pair of Baffin Impacts. I wear 11.5 Wide so I order Size 13 to really make sure I had room. I tried them on and it feels like my foot is in a vice grip. Can anyone speak about these boots and specifically the break in period. My 1st impression is that they have to go back.

I’m looking to fish Waubay Lake more this year – especially early ice before the zoo crews arrive. Heck I live 45 minutes away and just never seem to get up there. Coming from the East I think Buckshots access is my best bet to shorten the drive. Anyone use that access. Is it public or a pay to access? How is it for winter walk out??

I will be there at 3pm Friday. Last year we really enjoyed the show. Last year there was a lot of 10-25% off deals plus a lot of throw in extras. I saved 20% on an Eskimo shack with free cover. Saved 25% on 8 inch lite flite. Got a free hat and towel. I’m not expecting deals to be quite as good this year. I’ll try and share what I see after Friday.
