Jumbos huh? Like enough for a meal??

Yea. Biggest was 14, couple of those, many 12’s. Kept enough for two good meals.

When your running your heater in that crate, isn’t that garmin getting hot ? Seems like that battery would cook.

I thought about that and checked it throughout both days. It got warm but never too hot to touch. I slid the HD shuttle and bag towards the back of the crate and had the buddy forward. At one point I did put an extra 1lb canister in front of the shuttle to thaw prior to use. I also have that board below the shuttle to mainly make sure the crate doesn’t collapse (collapsible ends on the crate) but it also defelcts some heat. In that thermal I rarely run the heater on anything but low

Might be a silly question but why travel with the locks on in the first place? I get sitting in the driveway but why not take them off while traveling where the roads will do the worst damage.

Never really thought about that…just leave them on. Security so the doors don’t pop open, I guess.

Thanks, all. I have a can of JB80 and will keep it in the truck to give the locks a spray now and again. Also planning to pick up a small 3 in 1 Lock Dry can.

Chuck: That would be my guess with the tire slime, but going to ask to be sure. They seemed low, also. Can a person add air to tires with slime…I would guess so?

That milwaukee drill and batteries is only used for ice fishing. I typically get 4-8 trips per year as travel is usually involved. With LVS I don’t drill a ton of holes so the 5AH have worked fine, but would consider larger AH if economical.

How often do you spray the WD40/Zeb45/JB80? Seems like the locks on my enclosed trailer (side door and back door) are the main issue when traveling with snowmobile/atv for ice fishing.

So the “lazer power” 8 in blades are the right ones?

I took a few deep dives into these questions the last 5 years, like I do much stuff, and below is what I learned and works for me. Many ways to cook a filet, but this is my way…for now :).

Deadstick rod: I went with a 32 in TUCR Deadstick. I did not want a parobolic deadstick rod, and didn’t even know what that meant prior to diving in on this topic. I want a deadstick rod that has some tip bend/sensitivity but transfers the “load” to the baitfeeder as to audibly tell me to pay attention. The parabolics put the load on the road for too long and render the baitfeeder not as successful as the TUCR deadstick does, IMO. I use this in the shack but also with a firststrike rod flag and rod holder when I’m fishing outside. I’ve recently added a Frostbite drench, which is longer and half the price, that I use outside with the firstrike flag and holder also, and have found that to work well with the baitfeeder. I have friends with the JT snare rods and they haven’t come out of the rod case for 5+ years. Some love the snare rods, I have other JT Rods that are awesome, those just aren’t for me.

Finniky Fooler: I have two of these (hookset version) and my son has 1 and 1 jawjacker. As we use the hookset version I bought $10-15 Berkley Cherrywood med action rods for these with shimano sienna reels. DOn’t want/need baitfeeders for hookset version. WIth the rods under a good amount of strain I didn’t see any need to invest anything more. That was 4 years ago and they’re still going strong.

I use a go pro syle flex clamp mount.

Go on amazon and search Suptig Jaws Flex Clamp Mount Gooseneck Mount for GoPro Hero 13 Hero 12 Hero 11 Hero 10 Hero 9 Hero 8 Hero 7 Hero 6 Hero 5 Hero 4 Session Hero 3+ Hero 3 Akaso EK7000 DJI osmo Arlo Action Cameras

It screws into the back of my marcum recon, but takes a little finesse. Has worked the past few years.

You may be able to smell the 2 stroke exhaust just from the pics :). Been a great sled, but think I need to beef up the suspension a little bit for two up as the kid gets older. Wouldnt even know where to begin asking someone to do that and a new(er) track, not many places work on these it seems.

Jump pack. Used mine a few weeks ago out on the lake when it got cold and I left the ATV turned on to AC for charging a phone. Not my best move as I could’ve used the jump pack or power block I had with for charging the phone….but I digress. I just bought a Yaber 4500amp pack from Amazon for $60…making these things with air compressors to 150psi now. News to me.

You will probably want a better pole than most of the ice fishing ones. Agree the Brew City is a good mounting system. The poles for <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>ice fishing will work but have way to much flex in them if using it moving at all.

Agreed. I went with Brew city on the boat and HD Innovations 60 inch carbon for ice. Just too much difference in usage for one to work well for my applications. The HD pole is having some kinks worked out, as owner Jason has shared, but does a nice job.

I’ve fished in a snobear a few times. 3 people, we had plenty of room. Pretty convenient and comfy fishing. My biggest challenge was the propane heat made my eyes water pretty bad.

I’ve done well on Winnipeg with my TUCR Power Precision. It handled size 5 and size 6 Ripping Raps just fine.
Landed some big ones up to 26″ without a problem. Going back this coming March looking for that 28″ plus Master Amgler fish.
One thing to consider…it you’re going to be fishing in a Snobear the longer rods get a bit awkward. I wouldn’t go longer than 32″ if in a Snobear.
PS – those Daiwa QR 750 reels are sweet!

Good info, thanks. Yes, the 32/34 would be my rods in the Bear. I have converted all of my ice combos (20+ for me and son) to the Daiwa QR750. I clean and regrease/lubricate the reels upon purchase and every other year. Love them. Good drag system, folding handle, great value. BTW, on sale at THorne Bros for $24.99 right now and Scheels price matches )

St Croix Tundra 36 MF with Daiwa QR750, Clam Braid 15lb, 12lb seagur icex leader with a swivel; big rippin rap

St Croix 36 MH Skandic with Daiwa QR750, Clam Braid 15lb, 12lb seagur icex leader with a swivel; 3/4 Binks

TUCR 32 Precison with Daiwa QR750, Clam Braid 10lb, 12lb seagur icex leader with a swivel; 3/8 northland flutter spoon

JT 34 Gold Digger with Daiwa QR750, Clam Brain 10lb, 12lb seagur icex leader with a swivel; 1/4 to 3/8 tungsten rattle spoon

JT 44 Shiverstick with Daiwa QR750, Suffix mono 10lb, 12lb seagur icex leader with a swivel; Hole Hopper

Yogi Custom 32 M Carbon with Daiwa QR750, Clam Braid 10lb, 12lb seagur icex leader with a swivel; PK Spoon

Frostbite Drench 39 M; Deadstick Rod

That’s the likely lineup to start with, adjust as needed. We will be in a Ice Castle for a couple days, then 1 day likely in a Snobear. If weather cooperates we may venture out from the Castle on our own for a couple hours here and there, maybe…

Good info. I picked up a St. Croix Tundra 36 MF and a Skandic Ice 36MH on the Croix factory sale. I’ll put 12lb braid on there and usually run 10 or 15lb seagur flouro leader via a small swivel. I should’ve mentioned that with the rods the size of the baits was the main concern I had, as last week my 32 TUCR Precision handled a 27 inch walleye just fine. Not sure that rod would handle a 3.4 ounce Binks or #6 rippin rap well though.

NE SD was 10-16, mainly 12-14 inches on the 5-6 lakes I was on prior to Jan 1

I had poor luck with the flipped over grates and paint racks when trying to warm a can of chunky soup or the like. The lakeco piece is very sturdy. *Not affiliated in anyway )

Not a .45 but has anyone shot the Ruger Security 9 full size with the Viridian laser? I’ve had good luck with Rugers and for $350 w/laser this has me intrigued for another 9mm.

Line spin is a tricky conversation. How was it put on, type of line, what has the line been used for recently, weight of lure…etc. I put a hair jig down the hole from an inline reel and the jig spun. I put that same jig down the whole from a spinning reel with braid to a small spro swivel to flouro and no spin. The swivels bring their own set of factors, no doubt.

Many ways to bake a cake and some love the inlines, just not for me. To get back to BC’s question on the Pfleuger Pres like I said above, I found it sturdy but heavy and balance issues, for me.

I have the monster b ox on my current atv. It is amazing for hauling gear, and putting both mine and my son’s otter rod boxes on each side. The setup is a tank. Just need the two up now…

I do precooked-homemade breakfast burritos wrapped in foil for breakfast, then make turkey/ham/cheese sandwiches wrapped in foil for lunch. I paid like $30 for one of those Lakco trays specific to the buddy heater years ago and it’s paid for itself 10-20 times over already. I’ve seen lots of other ways to cook on buddy’s, but these trays are simple and worth it to me.
