Shot my buck this year with a 130 TMK (tipped match king) handload out of the 6.5 creed and it absolutely hammered him. Top of heart gone, lungs shredded, and a nice 50 cent sized exit. Perfect performance.
There is a 65 or so page thread on the Rokslide forum of guys tipping game over at ranges longer than pretty much all of us shoot (elk and the like up to and including 600+ yards) with match bullets out of 6.5s, 6s, and even hotrod 22 cartridges like the 22 creedmoor.
The primary thing to consider with match bullets is that YMMV heavily depending on the specific projectile. There are tons of success stories with projectiles like the 130 TMK, 130/140/147 eldm, or most of the Berger offerings. HOWEVER, I would absolutely NOT shoot game with something like a 142 SMK.
End of the day, do your research and put it in the boiler room. We’re blessed to be living in an age with tons of great bullets for pretty much all of the popular cartridges.
I can concur with all of this. 77 gr sierra TMK and 75 grain eldm are stone cold killers out of my 22 creed and 1/8 twist 22-250. Extraordinarily fun to shoot at distance on steel. Feel like I’m cheating. Game performance has looked like an ordinary cup and core bullet – pencil entrance, lungs turned to soup, exits have been about 50/50. Golf ball to baseball sized when they have happened. YMMV but I’m happy so far. The wind bucking ability on the prairie is damn nice
We have an EGO mower for the yard. Actually really like it. I joke with our neighbors about our “coal powered” lawn mower. Some don’t get it but it’s funny to me
Pure fear mongering. We all kept our weapons and the right to bear arms when Barack, Joe, and every other Democrat was in office and if Harris is next, that will not change either.
The only thing it might do is make a few people hoard ammo.

I mean when they say that’s their goal out loud is it really fear mongering? Legal battles have kept it mostly in check but to have the attitude “it won’t happen here” is naive
They should have just doubled down on enforcement of existing laws (own your wake, being responsible for what it does to other boats, shoreline, infrastructure, etc) which clearly cover the issues of boating all over in high water, instead of declaring some unenforced No Wake area.
Rarely do more laws, ordinances, etc equate to changed behavior.
This 1000% we have enough laws and rules.(this goes for lots and lots of things) Enforce the ones on the books already and things will be fine. Bureaucrats can’t fathom that though.
There’s a reason we eradicated wolves and g-bears as we settled the west. I don’t have a blind hatred for them but they compete for the same things we do and they’re a nuisance to humans. That’s the story of life on this planet – species are constantly jockeying for position. They lost. Now feel good, soft grifters want them back in numbers so they can change their profile picture and pat themselves on the back on social media all the while not having to deal with the ramifications of their voting/petitioning.
They get a pass if they have a collar on… because I have stupid feelings but if not – I am in favor of saving the birds
Government shooters and “special cwd tags/seasons” have killed WAY more deer than the disease itself.
I’m becoming a big believer in the heavy-for caliber, high bc bullets pushed fast.I’ve had a fast twist 22-250 for a couple years and shoot 75grain hornady eld’s out of it with extremely good results on coyotes, antelope and a few does. It’s also a pleasure to shoot at distance because it slips the wind so well.
Currently have a different short action rem700 at the gunsmith getting rebarrel into a 22 creedmoor. I’ll be slinging 75-90 grainers 3200-3500 fps. It’s basically cheating.
When it comes to optics and specifically quality glass avoid Chinese made at pretty much all cost.
Brands to consider that can be had “budget friendly” – meopta (Czech), Pentax (Japan), minox (Japan/Germany)
Leupold and vortex lower end lines are made in China fwiw. You get what you pay for
Trapping is really the only meaningful way to thin coyote numbers. A guy just can’t really shoot enough of them… unfortunately. Those packs will get wary of calls after you shoot a couple or get busted a couple times.
Trapping is fun too and a dying skill.
If that is in fact 10 feet tall you have a world record black bear in your backyard. That’s Kodiak brown bear sized.
Tacomas are cool trucks. I was considering one for a while. My hangups are the seats feel like you’re sitting on the floor (super low, weird leg angle), and the backseat is near unusable small. On top of the other usual midsize truck shortcomings. Just couldn’t do it. Saving my pennies for a tundra now
Something to keep in mind with manufacturers that tout their unbelievable warranty – you are absolutely paying for it one way or the other. Cheaper raw goods, cheaper process, etc. (See Vortex Optics)
When I buy something thats custom or limited from a small company I don’t ever expect that they can possibly afford to just no question asked replace something. Think of how many idiots are out there breaking stuff and trying for warranties.
Mainline I like hi vis braid of your choosing. Keep the slip bobber on the main line then us a swivel to a leader 24”-30” ish long of mono or flouro. I don’t care for mono as the main line because it sinks so darn fast. Slip Bobbering shallow the line ends up drooping on the bottom or in the weeds. No bueno for me.
Good call on the long rod for this! I’ve be saying I should do this for years! Will make hook sets much easier
I’ve pretty much lost all respect for public office. Elected and appointed. If someone, anyone, ran on the platform that they’d not pass a single new law while in office they’d get my vote. Bonus points if they take some trash off the books.

You can stabilize 77gr matchkings in 1:9 and still push them 3100-3200 fps. Low recoil, buck the wind, it’s basically cheating
I have no problems with any of the firearms made and purchased legally, but I do feel that firearms made to increase rounds per minute or inflict more damage should fall into a secondary category that gets looked at more in depth into the persons background or want’s for that type of forearm. If they want if for valid reasons, so be it but at least it was further looked into that someone buying a 12ga or 30/30 for hunting (which can also be used for protection)
Who gets to decide if a certain gun is too dangerous or your reason for buying said gun isn’t valid? I don’t think leaving those decisions up to some blue hair with pronouns in their email signature is a great idea.
There’s always some fudds at those classes but most are normal, preparedness minded people. Very fun! I recommend to everyone.
Bring a quality holster, Extra mags, be super mindful of the safety rules, and don’t try to go fast – be accurate first.
