The coach is not the problem. If ISU expects to compete with the upper echelon of the Big 12, there needs to be more money pumped into the program. Look at the difference between the football budget at Texas or Oklahoma compared to ISU. Coach Mac has done a great job. I thought a coaching change was in order but not the head position. I thought the Offensive Coordinator needed to go as the offense he was running was very predictable and defendable. Coach Mac is a great recruiter and has snagged some home grown boys that normally would have gone to Iowa in the past. Hopefully ISU will win a game or two in the next couple of years but I won’t hold my breath.
November 14, 2006 at 1:42 pm #499278There were a few 9″ but not many. I think the next couple of years will be good.
October 7, 2006 at 8:01 pm #486705Hey thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. I will be heading up on Friday, can’t wait. I’ll let you know how I do.
September 5, 2006 at 7:30 pm #475108Nice fish. Glad to hear there starting to pick up. Should be up that way soon.
August 30, 2006 at 1:39 am #471129The whites have been running on the small side and are not really going like they should be. Troll the points in 6-15 ft of water and you should pick up a few.
July 24, 2006 at 8:15 pm #463034I have spoken with Jerry on a number of occasions and he builds a quality boat. I had the opportunity to take a ride in one this summer and I was quite impressed. It was the 18 ft boat with a 90 HP Honda tiller. Got on plan real quick and handled the waves very nicely. The boat is very wide and has plenty of storage and accessories. The 10 ft gunnel rod lockers are really cool and easy to get at. The boat was equipped with the power steering from Engine Steer and it is quite impressive. No wood to rot out, no carpet to clean or replace. My next boat may be a Lake Assault.
April 24, 2006 at 11:36 am #440591BC spillway. Went out again on Saturday and the water coming over the slide has slowed down as well as the lake level dropping a foot. The fish were still there but not like before.
April 17, 2006 at 2:48 pm #438810I haven’t heard of any eyes on the lake being caught but they have been catching some below the dam.
April 6, 2006 at 1:27 pm #436348I stopped and checked out 12 mile and it looks like the water level is down about 30 feet. They are doing some work with heavy equipment on the east end of the road bed with rip rap, rock piles, etc.
January 23, 2006 at 7:41 pm #413946From what I have been hearing from the guys who fish Brushy on a regular basis, crappies are best before sun up and after sun down. Fish in the trees in 20-30 feet of water with small minnows, they don’t seem to want the bigger ones. The fish are fairly close to bottom. The walleyes seem to be a bit deeper at 30-40 fow.
September 12, 2005 at 6:11 pm #383457I was on Big Creek on Labor Day weekend and got skunked (again).
July 21, 2005 at 10:53 pm #374270I have a whole series of books from North American Fisherman that are very informative and interesting. Send me a PM and let me know where you are.
July 21, 2005 at 12:16 pm #374157I had a 20″, a 24″, and two really nice crappies. All on crankbaits.
April 2, 2005 at 1:35 pm #354391I hit Bloody Run and Sny McGill yesterday and the fishing was fantastic. I caught about 30 fish at Bloody Run, mostly on spinners, a couple on the fly rod with a scud. Most fish were 10-12 and I had one rainbow that was 19″. I caught 8 or 10 at Sny, including one brook trout. I didn’t keep any so there still there. What a wonderful day.
April 2, 2005 at 1:31 pm #354389Sorry guys, mid to upper 30’s. Musta had a brain fart. Been doing that a lot lately.
March 16, 2005 at 7:23 pm #350194Having lost a brother a few years ago due to depression, I am so relieved that you have opted to fight. You don’t know how much respect I have for you. Like you, my brother found solace in hunting and fishing. The response you have received from this site reiterates what I have thought all along, Not only are the folks on this site knowledgeable and willing to share, they are just darn good people!
March 16, 2005 at 6:51 pm #350190The wife and I went shorecasting in Cabo a couple of years back and my wife caught a 63# yellow tail tuna. What a riot. She was totally exhausted after 45 minutes and wanted me to take over. The guide we went with thought she might have a line class record so he told her that if she gave it to me the record wouldn’t count. She said who cares, I’m tired. I took the rod from her and fought the fish for another 20 minutes before the guide was able to get ahold of it. We cleaned the fish and packed it up and took it home. When we got back to the states I took the fillets which were about 40″ long, 9″ wide, and 3″ thick, and steak them. We had 52 1 1/2″ steaks that were absolutely amazing eating.
March 15, 2005 at 7:41 pm #349863The reason to keep fish is because you want to eat them right? So what’s the best size to eat? 15″ to 18″ are the best eating. If your keeping them because you want to impress your friends and family, take a picture and release the fish, the impact is the same and someone else has the oppurtunity to replicate this process. In the 90’s I caught two walleyes over 9 lbs, since then I have caught 7 over 9 lbs. Conservation pays, and I thank all of you who are committed to preserving our fisheries.
March 7, 2005 at 9:53 pm #347810Glad to see you guys had a good time. We caught a 22″ and 24″ later in the afternoon, but all in all, the fishing was pretty slow. We fished the tournament on Saturday and it started very good. Caught two nice 18″ right off the bat, and then not another bite until I caught a 12# carp at about 2:30pm. Still had fun, good seeing you on the river.
February 22, 2005 at 6:55 pm #344981It is a wiper. A cross between a striper and a white bass. Like a smallmouth on steroids.
February 15, 2005 at 4:52 pm #343294Yes I do have a couple of the Cabelas trolling rods. They are the ones that don’t have any guides, the line runs inside the rod. I like them but they are a bit on the heavy side (and don’t fit in my rod holders very well) I saw James using one of the St Croix Rods in Redwing, slow trolling three ways and I thought I would try one.
February 15, 2005 at 2:47 pm #343268A pair of 1/16 oz jigs with 1 1/2″ Chartruese glitter twister is my favorite. For me, it will outfish live bait.
January 28, 2005 at 6:25 pm #339289I got a report from a pretty reliable source and he said that he has been hitting 15-17″ walleyes near the dam in 50 ft of water. Aparently the fish are suspended 25-30 ft. Most fish caught on minnows with some coming from jigging rapalas and swedish pimples. Hope I can get out and try it this weekend.
