Thanks guys for the input, I was just curious what some other techniques are. I have never really tried the sneak and listen way, I guess I have always just moved along and every 100 yds or so tried to get a shock gobble or tried to see if there was an agressive bird in the area with a few yelps. It does seem to me that the birds are more willing to come up top as the day progresses, and occassionally I can pull one out early in the A.M. But as said before it can vary year to year and day to day, but I do know after a nice rain the birds are almost guaranteed to come out on top, I have seen that religiously. Anyways season is almost upon us!!

Nebraska is a great state to get on some early birds. I am heading out to the Santee but it won’t be until later in April, I am off to Winona for season b! Saw a few shows on the outdoor channel today that just got my blood pumping!

Thanks alot guys, I know there is a saying that you shouldn’t brag about your dog unless he is a thousand miles away or no longer alive but I feel like this dog is one in a million!! But who doesn’t think that about their dog?!

Thanks alot guys!! That is the wheat field that he hunkered down in, it was amazing how difficult it was to pick him out in it. The satisfaction of putting so much time into a deer and harvesting it is unmatched!!

Thanks alot guys and thanks Jay!! It is a huge accomplishment to come across a dog of this physique and still be able to be an amazing field dog. Alot of time and effort has been put into him but the results are coming in now!

The birds are tough to come across right now down here with all this corn in Jay but you can find them if you put some time in. Did you shoot that buck this year in your avatar? Thats an awesome looking deer!!

I have been extremely happy with my dogtra 1902. The nice thing with Dogtra is if your looking to invest in a launcher such as a zinger winger, the remote is compatible with the launcher. Clubs are all over the state, not sure where your from but check out akc.org and try locating one that way, otherwise I am sure someone else on here can help you out.

Thanks alot guys! Jay, the guy showing him is the owner of Goldberry Kennels. This is where I bought him from, it worked out really well having him show Koda for me. I will be the one doing the hunt tests however. But you are right, the hard work is finally paying off!!

Not to disagree with anything you guys are saying here, because I do agree that now days the Lab in America is bred primarily to be a HIGH power trial dog. I have the utmost respect for the breeders, trainers, etc that are doing these trials. I read a very good comparison in regards to the “American bred” labs, for the most part your average person is looking to buy a trail pony, not a thoroughbred race horse.

There are still excellent breeders out there that have the same theory and ideas I do in regards to the perfect lab. It is similar to that of the “British labs”. Most people do look for that calm, even tempered disposition. Or basically a dog that is not going to be bouncing off the walls when your at home and knows when it is out in the field that it is game time. I am definetly not saying that the type of high power dog here in the USA shouldn’t be bred, they certainly have their place, and I have alot of respect for the British Lab, but my point is that you don’t have to rely solely upon a British lab if your looking for great disposition out of a lab.

I have proof that they do STILL exist in the here and anyone that says a bench dog can’t hunt has never put time into training, because I have just that, a dog with numerous generations of conformation titles and he will have a JH shortly.

But back to the topic it really relies solely upon what each person is looking for, I have always wanted a calm, tractible dog that will be a great companion for life. That is why I have the labs I do now.

Here are a few pics of my labs. Koda, Chloe and Kina are my prides and joy! Koda is my male and the first pic landed him in the Goldberry 2009 calendar. They are all in the process of preparing for hunt tests and are 2 years old. They are unbeleivable 2 yr old hunters and needless to say I am very excited for their futures.

What exactly was the process to getting the spurs to look like that? Obviously you cut them at about 1″, did you ground out the inside of the bone and let it soak in some solution? Just curious, I really like that idea!
