That is a Lindy Max Gap jig. They stopped making them few years ago. You are going to have a tough time finding them but that dont mean there isn’t some still out there.

I was surprised to see this thread, but have been watching it with interest since I’ll be there mid-March, also. I’ve thought of fishing there in the past but never gotten around to it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Side topic – What is your feedback on that rechargeable aerator pump? Almost pulled the trigger on that one you have pictured off amazon, but ended up buying a DC battery powered quite bubbles with 12v adapter. Real life reviews/feedback are always nice to hear.

Longevity on the charge is phenomenal. And it has a One Touch button where it will intermittent aerate and that will last even longer I’ve never had to do that. I did hear that this unit was not waterproof and one person ran silicone along the seals to keep it waterproof I may do that.

What brand aerator is this? How many hours are you getting on a single charge? Do you think this aerator is large enough for the large Engle bait cooler?

This is my first year with a backyard rink so I am not an experienced rink builder.
I poured a 20×35 backyard rink in Northern Illinois last week (8 inches at the deepest point and 3 inches deep at the shallowest).

This morning I checked and there was approximately 1-2 inches of ice formed. We had about 3-4 inches of snow today. It has formed a “slush” over the top. I can’t shovel the rink because I am likely to break through the ice.

It looks like we have more snow on the way overnight.

Has anyone come across this issue? Is it best to just leave it be? Does anyone have advice based on experience with this type of problem?

    J

I have had this happen. I shoveled off as much as I could from the edges to allow for the ice to continue to freeze on the sides. If it can build ice on the edges it will help stop the water from coming up around the sides. The weight of the snow pushes up water around the edges. Once you get enough ice to walk on it and clear it, do so. Then you can reasses the ice after that. Might only take one hot water zamboni to fix, or may take a small layer refreeze. Let us know when you get to that point. Good luck and don’t worry, its fixable.

No practice for a couple days so its practice at home. This is why you build outdoor rinks. Build it, they will come

Funny. I was using a landing net to remove tumble weeds as mine was freezing. Didn’t ruin it though. The hand made Zamboni is the shi!t. Takes a couple laps but it’ll even things out faster than hosing.

Yeah it sure is. Are you using hot water also? I am so picky, that I use my leaf blower or broom to take all the shavings left from skating befor I zamboni. I Think the boys are going to be able to hit the ice today. Looks to be almost solid this morning.

My rink went south on me. Had it filled a day befor the snow storm, snow had too much weight and water came up around the edges and absorbed into the snow, then the warm weather started to melt it, then the rain and windy came. Crap all over the ice so after the rain n storm blew threw me and my oldest son broke out all the ice and removed it. Still had plenty of water in it. I did have to remove some leaves the next morning from the continuing wind that night. Now I have good clear ice going again and should be good now. Glad we put in the hard work to remove the junk ice for a new start. I did however break my Beckman net in the removal process, but hey they make more nets.

Still waiting here in the south end of the state. Was going to flood tomr afternoon, but they are saying 20-35mph with gusts over 40 for the next two days. I dont want to have a bunch of tree branches fall into my rink befor it freezes so will have to wait till Wednesday. Plus ground dont have any frost going yet and I like to have the ground froze befor I set the trap down and it holds some of the ground temp underneath it, thus slowing down the freeze.

I have the luxury of filling my rink in about 10 minutes. Fire hydrant in front of my neighbors house. I have a meter put on it to record the water usage while filling then pay for it. As for filling all in one shot, hasn’t been an issue for me at all. I just make sure its going to not get above freezing for a couple days. Last couple years I had one side of the rink at 8″ befor the other side gets to an 1″. This year I leveled the yard up more with black dirt so it will be more even thickness. For those that may want to fill in one shot but don’t want to run a hose all night, I know there are construction company’s that have water trucks that you might be able to hire to haul you some to make a quick fill. Might even be able to get your local fire department to haul with a tanker truck if in a rural area. Haven’t started to fill here in southern MN yet. I do like the ground to get a couple inches of frost going too.

I have not had any problems with the lawn come spring. It is actually green grass when I pull the liner up. I use a white liner, have used a white on one side black on the other and that didn’t make any difference. I also have a hand zamboni that I bought from one of the outdoor rink companies. Works awsome. I bought a expandable hose that I hook to my hot water in the basement sink and come out threw my dryer vent for the 10 minutes it takes me to resurface. Then right back into the basement in a 5 gal pail with the hose so it’s ready for the next time and not froze up. The hot water makes the best ice surface after being ripped for a few days.

I have an 05 Duramax. 230,000, still going strong. I don’t think I can go back to a gas vehicle. I love having power to pull and pass day dreamers on the roads. Simple maintenance goes a long way with the diesels. I know of a 02 duramax with 138,000 miles for sale. Its in great shape too. If your pulling as much as you are, you want diesel.

Been a couple years since I have been threw there but I’m not sure you would be able too. This is going to be dependent on a few factors. How high the toon sits, water levels, how many people on the toon to help it ride lower, Size of the toons.. Width of the toon also. If I remember right there wasn’t much room on the side of my boat when I went threw there (620 ranger).

Here are the results from today. The bite has slowed, but is still very good. I saw 2 dead <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>Walleyes and 30 Tullibees. Pretty typical for a July weekend.

That’s 2 more walleyes than I seen this weekend. I did see some tullibees however. I was thinking about this this morning on the water. Few weeks ago I seen some dead walleyes floating around, one thing I remember was that at this time the DNR was doing their hooking mortality study. So I was wondering, what happens to these fish when they release them from their holding areas that they had the fish corralled in, which isn’t how the fish is released after it is caught…. but the water temp is now warmer than when they did their study, and I seen no walleyes floating.

I have never had one work typing it in online. I just always call it into the Aitkin DNR office.

I didn’t notice. I did notice all the Wild defenders on one side of the ice on that last goal.

They do this crap all the time, tunnel vision for the puck. The two defensemen in front of the net did the same thing on the tying goal and there was a guy standing there waiting to bang the puck home. Pee wee hockey and they struggle to figure it out. flame This team is really starting to get to me..

Well, here’s a little Monday nugget that will warm your heart.

Stastny gets totally laid out. Not even a chance for the Blues to whine about it, it was a 100% legal hit. Sweet. Would love to see any Wild player put this hit on somebody special from the Avs.

    Grouse

Wild player hit someone hahaha. When was the last time you seen a wild player throw a big hit. Been a while. I would love to see it soon. That’s what this team is lacking right now, “Physical play”, along with some other things. Maybe suter will give a guy a hug that’s about all I’ve seen lately. Fourth line guys seam to be the only ones throwing a little body around.

This team is horrible! I think it is time to consider making a big trade to shake this squad up! There is no Stanley Cup in Minnesota’s future.

What do you suggest they do?
    [/quote]
I have been holding off all season with the things I am seeing already this season. Heres a few. Keep suter off the ice..slow, dont hit anyone, doenst move guys out from in front of our net. too slow for the power play, does a bad job holding the offensive zone at the blue line, it would help if he was two more steps in the zone and not right on the blue line. shoots too late and always into the shin pads, but I will say he has done a much better job this year getting shots threw to the net and it shows, he has some goals… Less ice time for him. Keep him off the ice in OT. OT is now a fast pace race horse hockey. Not for slow guys. OK you get the Picture im not a suter fan. Oh yeah he needed to force Jamie benn on the second goal. You dont just let their best player come in and take a free shot. Force his sooner, then he has to try to get a pass over or take a shot from farther out .
This team needs to keep the pressure up in the offensive zone. Get in and hammer on the D. Force turnovers. Our D needs to do a better job of standing up at our blue line. We give up our zone way to easy and by the time we step up we are at the hash marks, too late. They get tunnel vision to the puck in our zone. They get nervous and start running for the guy with the puck and leave back door guys wide open or the point man walks right in free, while our 5 guys are all trying to block the puck for our goalie. Stand up clear guys out from the front of our net so the goalie can see the puck. Knock someone on their a$$. Dont give them a chance at the rebounds. We need to play all four lines. The checking line has looked good. Porter does a great job getting in and hitting the D forcing turnovers. Power play needs to be more creative. The one timer to the side board guy has been figured out by the other teams. Watch how other teams pp is aginst us. They all get creative and have guys moving around more. Vanek is our only creative guys out there. Most the time guys aren’t even ready for his passes. Speed up the ice, get speed coming up the ice on the pp and force the other team back into their zone, way too often we come up so slow that its so easy for them to hold their blue line forcing us to dump the puck, but we dont even have enough speed for that because suter is bring the puck up and everyone else is standing at the blue line waiting. Tough guy, we dont have one. Need that guy that can go out and make a big hit and get your team fired up or answer to the call of a big hit on one of your own guys whether its clean hit or not. We look foolish with the gloves off. Some say that’s not needed but it is. Maybe not in the playoffs but it can help you get threw the season and win some games to make the playoffs.
Just take and watch a few of the small things in the next few game, Like how we dont finish checks, stop forcing in the offensive zone when we turn the puck over to create turnovers (we are good at this when we force the puck and it creates odd man rushes). How suter never hits anyone and all the other things I listed befor. Power play does the same thing everytime. Don’t force soone enough at our blue line. Get tunnel vision to the puck in our zone. How we will leave kane open too many time on Tuesday night, and no one knocks him on his aresss. Always throwing our break out passes up the side boards. Don’t tie guys up in front of the net or simply clear them out. When we get back to doing some of these thing we will be winning games like nobody’s business.
Couple Positives from tonight. POMER scored, I thought gustov looked good. Dont know why he only had two shifts in the 3rd, and why dumba only had 3. Kemps played a good game. Vanek continues to shine. Pk was good. We only had two penalties. I know its early but we cant afford to go into a slump this season like last year, our conference is way too good.
