I haven’t heard anything about the tailrace for walleyes, but I’ll ask Pops to see if he knows anything. I always liked fishing there for whatever happens to be biting–catfish, white bass, even some fat rainbows.
I don’t think he hit anything with the motor. He said something about a bad seal.
I’ll pass on your hello. Hi to Chris from me.

It is a sore subject right now. He thought I was kidding when I told him I sold my boat, was in no hurry to buy another, and was looking forward to trouting this year. I might as well have told him that I’ve also become an atheist!
He has told me that fishing on Sharpe has been really good this spring. They have put plenty of fish in the boat each trip. His boat is in the shop right now with some lower unit issues, but thankfully that $4000 bill is covered by the warranty.
I hear there is still a lot of ice on Oahe. You guys headed out there anytime soon?
Take care,
Curt

Eric,
Please talk (pray for him) to that son of mine, Willeye. He is abandoning his Walleye roots! Something about fly rods.
I am quite concerned! As any loving dad would be. lol
Pa karp
Pa Karp and Mountain Carp,
You guys are hijacking Rehberg’s thread.
Back to the topic…What fly would a guy use to catch a sauger this time of year? Could a 6 weight rod throw a #5 shad rap?
Eric and Rich–You’ve both met the old man, but I’ve only talked to you on the phone or through emails. I hope you are believers in evolution, because his offspring have fallen far from the tree. All in fun of course. Our time on the water with Pops has been priceless.
Boatless and loving it.

Good job on helping the police. I don’t want to make you paranoid, but don’t you worry about these guys or someone else in their crew finding out who you are and getting revenge for your part in their arrest?
Just be careful.

August 29, 2007 at 3:42 am #604093The word on Oahe from the old man…
“Lead core plugs off the tips of points in 50′ of water is really yielding some good fish on Oahe! Peoria to Nystrom’s Bay and anywhere starting Combine Point north.”
If I were going, I’d do a few days on both lakes. Your chances of bigger fish are better on Oahe, but Sharpe is a lot of fun because of the numbers you can find.
Have a good time.

August 28, 2007 at 2:06 am #603709There are a lot of fish being caught right now below the dam. This time of the year I always enjoy Sharpe, but if the fatties are biting on Oahe you can\\\’t pass that up.
Redneck crew or WalleyeHunter–You guys know anything about what\\\’s going on in Pierre right now?
I\\\’ll check in with Pops to see what he knows. I know he was out Saturday and Sunday on Sharpe and caught fish.

I was going to recommend Smith since that is all I use however they are not the lightest glasses out there.
I have the Caymans from Smith Optics and love them. I have the copper lenses–they work great on bright days and actually brighten things up when it’s a bit overcast. They fit my melon well and I can wear them all day with no discomfort.
My wife got them for me as a birthday gift from Three Rivers Outdoors here in La Crosse for about $130.

August 20, 2007 at 2:00 pm #601513I don’t live in that area, but am curious about this change. What’s going on down there?

August 20, 2007 at 1:57 pm #601511Cade,
I hope everything works out for your family and your neighbors. This rain has been unbelievable.
On a different topic, I was watching CNN yesterday as they were covering the flooding in Oklahoma. The footage of the helicopter rescue was something else. I hope those two folks are OK. I was also impressed by the guys in the red bass boat who rescued the one guy from the roof of his house. Boating across those flooded fields was pretty commendable. Wingdams and stumps don’t seem as bad compared to submerged cars, railroad tracks, fences, road signs, etc.

August 20, 2007 at 1:15 am #601390If this keeps up, I think I’ll be able to catch fish in my yard very soon.
Bret Clark’s driveway fishing doesn’t seem so funny now!

What kind of prices does Sign Pro have for boat letters?
They did both sides in two-tone vinyl and a few words on my motor for about $75. I dealt with the owner Jim and he was very good to work with.

August 20, 2007 at 1:04 am #601381I was just out on a ladder in the pouring rain pulling leaves out of the downspouts. You never think to do that when the weather is nice!

August 19, 2007 at 8:38 pm #601345The normally peaceful creek behind my house was an angry muddy river this morning. The kids’ swimming pool on the deck filled up two times since Friday night. Looks like more rain coming for the rest of the night. I guess I’m not getting the grass cut today.

August 19, 2007 at 8:19 pm #601340I’m sure Blue does a great job. If you can’t wait for his schedule to clear up, Sign Pro in LaCrosse did mine (vinyl) a few years back and did a very nice job.

The thing that makes me want to hurl is that the guy must have known my friends dad well, because he took all of his work equipment in particular. It wasn’t just a blind robbery. They were after his gear. It wasn’t just a random circumstance at all
We had the same thing happen when my step-dad passed away a few years ago. Within a week of his death, someone went in the garage and stole a bunch of tools. The thieves must have known Mom was then alone.
Cade–I hope your friend and his family are doing as best as possible under the circumstances.

I have been looking at the Kodak EasyShare C653 and am considering pulling the trigger on it but wanted to check with my fellow IDAers first.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
That Kodak is a good camera. I’ve used a previous model of it and it works very well. Easy to use and takes great pictures.
I also have a Sony Cybershot that I purchased 5 years ago. I keep waiting for it to die so I can buy a new one. The darn thing just keeps on going! It’s a very good camera, just doesn’t have all the bells and whistles as compared to what is on the market right now.

August 14, 2007 at 7:44 pm #599985Cute pic. I have yet to get my toddler daughter on the boat this summer, but my five-year-old boy has been a constant fishing buddy for me in the boat. It’s a lot more work with the little ones in the boat, but a lot more fun!

August 14, 2007 at 7:29 pm #599969Just be honest about expenses, no matter what they are from. Money is stressful enough, but when you mix in some minor dishonesty, that is a recipe for big problems. Plus, if there is a big to do about a fishing purchase, it makes it hard to enjoy that equipment later on.
In our monthly budget, we have a “whatever” category for each of us. This money is to be used for whatever we want with no questions asked. Seems to work pretty well.
