Thanks, Mallard! I am glad you sent me the link, because my “internet police”, here at work, won”t allow me to get to Browning.com. I do notice that this is probably for the “Japan” A-5. Do you happen to know if it is the same for the Belgian? My piece is almost 50 years old.

April 2, 2007 at 2:45 pm #555911Tom,
I don’t know why there is a price difference between the two, (supposedly!), same pulg number, but I do know that Opti plugs are expensive. Plugs for my “02” Opti 150,were $23.00 per plug at the dealer!! I asked about this on this web site, and sombody, (I think it was Derek?), said to look at http://www.clubplug.net. I did, and saved over half of what the dealer wanted, with free shipping!December 14, 2006 at 9:04 pm #511396Yes, way cool! I also am asking if all decals ordered will come with the clear background. That one is really nice looking! The “Buy Here” link shows the white background.
Thanks,
RivyDecember 4, 2006 at 1:33 pm #506647When I go up, I power about the same amount of stuff as you discribe. But I don’t have a microwave. Toasters, coffee pots, hair dryers, (If you bring the better half along!)anything with a heating element in it, will suck a lot of power. The 1000 will be taxed to it’s limit. I run a 2000W Honda, at it is sweet. Run toaster and coffee pot at the same time. It will go full throttle though. Your T.V. may take a medium amount, but I would guess the micro will take the most power. Years ago, I rented a fish shack and it came with a 1000W Honda, and when you plugged the toaster in, I thought it was going to blow. That thing must have been turning 9000rpm! That’s when I figured I better go with the 2000W. and havent been sorry. It can also do larger tasks at home. I have run table saws and such from it, when I was building/finishing my shed.
As for the price, you will not find one cheaper than Total Tool, in St. Paul. They were $300.00 cheaper than Northern Hyd. But at this time of year, everybody is ordering one, and Honda will only send them so many. It took me a while to get mine, and I ordered one at about this time of year.Give them a call, you might be suprised.December 4, 2006 at 1:03 pm #506630I have owned two of them. A “98”, and currently run a “02”. Both have been trouble free. Great gas mileage, low oil consumption, very little stink, troll @ idle, all day and night! But, I do all of the recomended preventitive maintenance, use non-ethenol premium fuel, and use the recomended lubricants.
IMO, If you want the “GO” of a 2 stroke, You can’t go wrong with any of the brands of “direct injected” motors. If you want quiet, and no-stink, the 4 stroke is the way to go.November 16, 2006 at 1:08 pm #500156Just heard on the radio this morning, that the book revenues will be placed in an account in the Cayman Islands!! Still no money will be transfered to the victim’s families!!
IDA should also try to get a message out, (Nation Wide!) that they should boycott the advertizers that will be premoting his stupid interview about this book on FOX. I heard that NBC, (I think it was NBC), declined to air this crap. Good for them. Everybody should watch NBC during the airing on FOX, unless NBC has “Rock Star” Mike Jackson on at the same time! Better yet, do something special with your wife and kids that night!!October 25, 2006 at 12:30 pm #492207Back in 2002, I bought some from Camo Outfitters, Inc. in Grand Rapids MI. 616-956-9551. Tried to re-lookup the web site, but it doesn’t come up. I saved a copy of the order form, because I figured I might need some more someday. Let us know here, if they are still in business or not.
September 7, 2006 at 1:17 pm #476088They have the first half of this posted by the cash register, at the Citgo gas station/bait store in Malmo!! Was reading it waiting for leeches!!!
The problem I have, is that you will not see info like this in the evening news!!! If it IS true, I wish that they would run this story, and look at other cities as well. But that would take GUTS!September 6, 2006 at 12:20 pm #475451Sounds Great!!! And you are right, “This IS, the best outdoor site on the internet!”
Thanks to all the sponsers who have donated.Rivy
August 30, 2006 at 8:05 pm #473547I think Ritt said that he does better by himself also!!!
What’s up with that!!!
Sorry buddy!
August 30, 2006 at 7:44 pm #473542When I was young, we chased and caught striped gophers. Used the same principal as Gary’s method, but we would chase the bugger down the hole, set a conibear trap, (carefully, I might add!), upside down over the hole, and then flood the hole with water. Probably not as much enjoyment watching the show, as in the other methods, but the result was the same!
I do use the 12 ga. on the pockets though! After mowing the yard, their tunnels must get disturbed, (like I get after I sit down after mowing the yard, and start seeing the ground getting tossed up at dusk.) Neighbors must have thought I was nuts the first couple times they seen me sneak up in stocking feet, to about 30 yards, and wait for the rascals to come up and dump their load. Need to time this just right, cause they are only out for a split second, and then BLAM!
After writing this, it would seem to me that some sort of shooting sticks would work good. The gun does get heavy holding it at that mound, waiting. And of course, once you bring the gun down to rest your arms, he will no doubt pop his head out. I got a couple in the yard right now, Need to go make some shootin’ sticks!!!August 22, 2006 at 1:21 pm #471284OK, you guys are starting to make me want to go out and buy some more equipment. Looks like I am going to need a “dedicated” cattin’ tackle box!
I have two questions though. You cattin’ guys all talk about “cut bait”. Are you using chunks of bait, or are you putting slices in a live bait, so that it bleeds, and smells?
Second, what bait are you using, and is there a place in Hastings to buy some?
Since I am so close to this river, it would be fun to try this out, while the nights are still nice out. Thanks for the help,
Rivy

Goes to show why this is the BEST web site!!!August 8, 2006 at 5:07 pm #467421Dan,
I just checked, and you are 65 miles from me, (1hr. 20 min. on Mapquest) To far for me to go because I have some other things to do, but, if you find out for sure that it is possibly/most likley, the water pump, if you drove to my place, I would be willing to put it in for you/teach you how to do these. You would need to get the impeller from the Merc. dealer, and we could arrange a time tonight if you wish. And yes, I do have beer in my shop!! I just don’t have time to spend 2.5 hours on the road. It should take less than an hour to replace. PM me if you are interested.Dan Riveness
August 7, 2006 at 7:12 pm #467134Nick,
This is why I am asking questions. My “95” 7.3 liter, is still very good on mileage. The past 2 winters, I have come home from the border in snow storms. 4X4 locked, and pushing a lot of snow. Granted, I needed to keep it under 60mph to stay on the road, but my mileage was a hair over 20. I was not pulling a trailer, but the bed was loaded! My truck has the 3.73 gears in it, and and manual everything.
When empty, I allaround average between 16 and 18 mpg, but I drive her pretty hard, and fast. Pulling my boat, I get about 14. Also hard and fast! Right Chappy!! Like some other posters have said, keep her under 2000 revs.
I wish all diesels would have a “second overdrive”, simlar to split rearends like the big rigs sometimes have. You can get them, but they cost a lot for the trouble of putting them in yourself.August 7, 2006 at 4:35 pm #467085Big G- Yes, somebody has to drive the others. And the fellas, that I know who drive them, like them. I ride/drive with one buddy who has a “06”. Ride, looks and interior is good, the problem that I have is an annoying “buzz” at around 60 to 65 mph. This is an auto tranny. I know they get comparable MPG, and similar power. Just that that buzz would drive me crazy! I also know that 1 truck doesn’t mean all of them are like that, but he told me that it was like that when he drove it off the lot. I don’t dislike them, I just like them 3rd best!! Just my opinion.
August 2, 2006 at 11:56 am #465894John O, I have the same trouble with my Smartcraft gauges. One or the other gauge, sometimes stays on after I shut down. But I have a 12V disconnect switch that I flip off then on, and it clears it for me.
Ripper, do you still have the manual for the Smartcraft gauges? It was a seperate manual on mine, just covering the gauges, and there is nothing in the main motor manual.
As far as is it worth the money? I say yes. I had a “98” Opti 150, that didn’t have it, cause I thought that it wasn’t worth the money. I now have a “02” Opti 150 that does. I dont have a kicker motor because I can troll down to 450 RPM, (Normal idle is 550 RPM) and that will push my 2090 @ 0.8 MPH on the GPS and no wind. For me, that is the slowest I need to go at night, on Mille Lacs, in November! Give me a PM and we can swap phone numbers, and maybe I can talk you through the procedure for the RPM set. Or if I can find it, (Could take a while!) I could make a copy of the pages needed in the manual, and send/fax them to you.August 2, 2006 at 11:39 am #465889What I have noticed on this site, and from friends and personal experince, is that now a days, trailer manufactures use the cheapest tires out there to outfit the trailers from the factory. Mine were from China, and 1 seperated after 1 season, and 1 more started to go during the spring of the next year. I have now replaced all four with good quality radial “TRAILER” tires. It is important that they are trailer tires.
My boat/trailer never sees the sun unless I am on the road/lake. It also does not see heat or cold. (I keep my shed heated and A/C’ed year round) And the stock tires still went bad.
My new tires say 50psi, and thats what I keep in them. Lot of miles, and 2 1/2 years later, they are still in great shape. Old addage that says, “You get what you pay for!”, seems to me anyway, to hold true for tires.August 1, 2006 at 7:06 pm #465702Did he hit you in the noggen?
The other guy must have been scared of him, cause I didn’t see ant extra bruises on him!August 1, 2006 at 12:28 pm #465554I do not own an E-Tec, but I am a fan of “Direct Injection”!
Here is a story that happened to me, and a lot of the parts of your story sound like mine.
I had a “98” Opti 150 that after about the third time out, had the same symptoms as you state. Only thing, is that I could at least idle in gear. After idling for about 20 minutes, I could finally give it some throttle, and it would run. But, even at half to full open, the motor would shut off for an instant, and then come back on. This would really shake up the transom.Chappy will probably chime in here and tell of the “lost trolling motor”! But I digress.
Since the thing was still under warrenty, I took it in.
What I found out, was that a wire had come off of the oxygen/temp sensor. It was my fault! I was showing off the motor in my garage, and since this was the saltwater version, it stands taller that me! So when I was putting the cowl back on, I caught the wire and it pulled off. The dealer found this, and I haven’t had a lick of trouble since. I sold that boat to a friend’s buddy, and it has not given him any trouble to date! I bought a “02” Opti 150, and it too has been flawlwss. I am more careful, (I get some help!), when I remove and install the cowl. So, like most others said before me, give the dealer a chance to check it out. Hopefully, it will be something stupid, like my problem! I feel you will be happier in the long run with the 2 stroke. I think that all of the makes of “Direct Injected” motors are the cats meow! 2 stroke performance and 4 stroke economy! Best of both worlds.
But like you also stated, the electronics on all of these motors is unreal! I can fix anything, if I can put a wrench on it, or hit it with a hammer! Electrons, and 4-20 miliamps, scare me!
June 7, 2006 at 12:18 pm #452015Had this happen on Mille Lacs, a couple of years ago! With the same style lighter. I bought 2 at Fisher’s resort. 1 for the pocket, 1 for the tackle box. (future emergency lighter!) My tackle box is the type that has a semi-clear small lift top that you put your most used items. Hooks, (lots of them!) sinkers, swivels, beads, ect.
Well, it was a calm, warm, day. Hardly any wind, trolling with the electric, on a mid lake flat. All of a sudden, BOOM! As someone said with the can of pop, I thought a gun went off! There was shrapnel flying all over the place! For a moment, I didn’t know what happened, till I seen green plastic and a poop load of tackle laying all over the floor. I looked, and the cover on my tackle box was open, and quite a bit emptier! Took about a half hour to clean up the boat. I would have never beleived that a lighter could do that. For years I always had a Bic style lighter in there with no problem. Put one of these cheaper style lighters in there and 2 hours later, suprise!
Needless to say, spare lighters are stored out of the sunlight now, no matter who makes them.June 7, 2006 at 12:01 pm #452007Helmet? The way the sun was shining, I thought he had one on for the picture!!!
Sorry buddy, just couldn’t resist!!June 2, 2006 at 4:57 pm #17759Thanks again to the people on this site.
