I seem to be getting this vibe that there is alot of youth bashing. Not only on this topic but many others. I am only 16 so it does hurt me to read it. I do not think anyone is going out and saying it directly just indirectly. People go out and say youths are uncourdious and everything else. Well I say what do you expect. All I hear is older people blaming things on the youth. So in return younger people think twice of doing somthing. No it is not thinking twice of doing the right thing, but the wrong thing. I will admit there are alot of stupid young inconsiderate people out there. But to tell you the truth I have seen it happen more often and to a more extreme extent when I am on the lake fishing. Every once in a while when I am out I will see another younger kid out there. We will nod to each other and keep on fishing. Then ten minutes latter I see an adult come buy in a big expensive bass fishing boat with a trolling motor and everything else. If I am catching fish he will troll right on by me without giving it a second thought. Never have I experienced a youth do this to me. Again I will admit there are some out there. But thoose youth who are incosiderate and “no good” are not out on a lake. There is some alley smoking pot. Youths that are on the lake fishing are some of the nicest people out there. I just want some of you to know that. I am one I hold the door be polite and everything like that. All I expect in return is for thoose people that see me and any other youths doing that to hold a little higher regard for us. Sorry if I ruffeled anyones feathers.

WHy is it illegal to motor troll? If that happened here in Minnesota I would be outraged!
May 28, 2003 at 9:43 pm #267452NO!! For one thing it would cost us money to take the course. When the majority of us do not need it.
May 24, 2003 at 3:53 am #267281Well I live in Duluth but have really never done anything but trut fishing on SUperior. But I can suggest that you go up the St. Louis river. Let me get a number of a bait and tackle shop that you should call no matter what!
Marine General: 724-8833
Adress: 1501 London rood.Get in touch with theese guys and they will hook you uup!
May 6, 2003 at 12:23 am #265927Thats pretty cool! You should be able to catch them once opener comes around if they are still there. That sort of reminds me of somthing that hung around my dock when I was younger. About ten years ago we had this huge northern under a long boat dock at my cabin. Everyong tried to catch it but the northen would always break the line. FInally after a year and a half my uncle went out and bought 20 pound test line. He caught the fish that weakend and quickly weighed it and it was a woping 28 pounds. He released it and it has never been sceen since. OF course I was only 6 at the time and only hear stories of this fish, somtimes I wonder if it was really only 28 inches long!
May 1, 2003 at 12:44 am #265580Med: Your walleye rig should work if you have nothing else but a little heaver setup isn’t that bad either. I would suggest 6-8 pound test line. Also Bring wadders if you have some.
Jake: I am not sure if there are fish in that time of May. I am usually up at Island Lake at my cabin then. I would assume that there may still be some fish there. The best bet would be try some action in the Sucker. Then if that doesn’t work go down to the French River and shore cast JUST DON’T FISH IN THE ACTUAL RIVER IT IS ILLEAGEL. I am not tottally sure on all this for the End of May though. I would call the DNR and ask our a local bait and tackle shope.
April 30, 2003 at 3:33 am #265446I live in Duluth and I can tell you were to go around here. The Lester, Tisher, and Talmitch are not holding that many fish. Your best bet would have to be to go to the Sucker river. There is alot of people fishing there so you will want to get there early adn find one deep hole and stick to it with some spawn bags. They are running pretty good there I was up there 4 times and each time I have come home with some dinner hope this helps!
April 29, 2003 at 3:40 am #265322Gongrates to you GIMPY! It is nice to see somone youg going out and placing in a payback tourny. You seem pretty youg what are you 17 18?
April 24, 2003 at 3:34 am #264984Thanks for the advice! I will be sure to do that. Man I can see it now up at the cabin everyone trying to steal my leeches oh the madness!
April 23, 2003 at 12:22 am #264889Anyone have any ideas on how to keep leaches alive durning the late summer? You know how they start dissapering around August well if you catch enough you can probally save them and I bet they would be killer on the water!
April 22, 2003 at 10:44 pm #264882I have a question about the leeches you catch. How can you tell if the leaches you catch are the right kind to use for fishing? OR will any kind really work?
April 22, 2003 at 10:31 pm #264880I have a better idea. I think we should all instead of taking up some money to buy somthing for them we should just like send them a rappala or a package of power bait you have lying around. THis way you dont have to fork out the dough you can just grap some extra takle you have lying around even Jigs and bobbers will work. And send them to somone who would be in charge and then he could send it to the army base in Texas were they ship it out to Iraq. I think Tom should be in charge of this I think everyone would be able to trust him the best and he did start this thread. Also once everything is sent to him he can get find out how much it costs to send them and we can all chip in and pay for the shipping. THis is just a thought tell me what you all think!
April 22, 2003 at 12:13 am #264795The sad news is your are not aloowed to send live animals even if it is worms. What I suggest is maybe take up some donations from everyone and buy some plastics and stuff and sen it over sees not just to him but all the fisherman over there to use. I know that some of the troops will be stationed there for 2 years. I know if I was over there and go a packet of Powerbait I would be in heaven!
April 22, 2003 at 12:04 am #264794I also trap creek chubs and sciance(sp?) for minnows, it is somthing fun to do. It may suprise you but even if a pond has winter kill there will still be leeaches in it. A DNR officer up by my cabin tested three ponds that all had winter kill caught over 30,000 in each one. The best advice I can give you is get an old coffe pot and put some old pork or somthing like that in it and punch a few holes in it and stick a rock in it and tie a rope around it and throw it into the pond.
April 21, 2003 at 11:56 pm #264792Well I was inspired and got of my lazy butt and went out and picked some crawlers. I didn’t think any would out up here in Duluth. Well it turns out I was wrong. I caught about two and a half dozen. My sister helped alittle and holded the bucket for me props to her for that. I would have caught alot more but it started to get alot colder and I was getting bretty wet from the rain. I have a questin will Crappies eat a crawler?
April 20, 2003 at 4:25 pm #264676Thanks for the advice every one! I bet I will have some fun once the season opens trying all theese things! Well Happy Easter! Bye
March 13, 2003 at 3:13 am #262287I have a question, if you do catch a record fish out of a private pond lake or river does it still count?
March 12, 2003 at 9:27 pm #262282Oh no it is not mine I am also looking for a boat and I saw that like a second before I read your want add.
March 12, 2003 at 4:26 am #262267Would a 1985 1600 Angler boat with trailer and 25 hp motor for like 2000 bicks work?
March 10, 2003 at 4:11 am #262217Hey thanks for the directions I will definatly try that lake, any other good spots around. I will definatly keep you updated on my fishing succes up here. Well I have to be gettin to be talk to you latter.
March 6, 2003 at 5:28 am #262150Ok let me see if I can get my barings on this. So your at the Island beach resort. Do you wanna head towards the bridge? Or to you wanna take one of the roads by the Island lake Inn? I really want to try this lake it seems really nice. Ok now I trying to think of somthing here… Tell me if you know this body of water. You are just pulling out of the Minnesota Power Boat landing and you are driving towards the bridge and the Inn and on the road oppisite side of island lake there is some sort of body of water weather it is a lake pond or what I am not sure. Is that Freidenburg?
March 5, 2003 at 9:30 pm #262145That is so unfair! The guy wanted to be a good sportsmen by realecing the fish, but then the DNR screws him over. But I can see the DNRs point. With so many people cheating to get in the record books I can see how they are edgy. It is sad how a few can ruin it for everyone.
March 5, 2003 at 9:17 pm #262144That would be pretty nice. Yea I don’t plan going ice fishing but thanks fot the warning. Were exactly is frendburg(sorry about spelling) lake? I think I will check it out on the DNR site.
March 5, 2003 at 1:09 am #262123Question for Derek. I was reading your post and wondering what exactly Fisheries? I know it is some kind of College class system but what do you study? I asume of course fish but what about fish.
March 5, 2003 at 12:59 am #262121Thats too bad man, maybe you can take whoever your guiding down to Island Lake that day. HAHA

March 3, 2003 at 10:28 pm #262086What days would be best for everyone? I am going to give United Northern Sportsman a call somtime and ask. Hopefully it wont cost to much to rent it out. I am thinking we should have like two to a boat maybe this way everyone wont have to bring theirs. Well again reply if your interested and leave a date that is best.
