Im up working on and off now if anyone wants to go give a shout !!!! Nice fish.
Hey DH Im in town on and off now for a bit, got an apartment in NFDL since its cheaper than hotel…
I will be bringing the boat the week after Labor Day, scouted the launch you mentioned… wouldnt you know it, I ended up only 5 minutes from the launch… The apartment actually has two garages so I will keep boat here for fall I think… anyway send a PM or something and I will give my number… maybe we can rip some lips…
Um, no… maybe just dont insinuate that someone is exagerating or lying. Your the one who said to re-read and see what you really “SAID” vs. what someone may have “Thought” you said…
Why come in someones post who had a great time and crap on it ??? Want that… there are other sites dedicated to that sort of stuff. The reason I come here is because usually it a very positive non bickering site.
So as our grandparents say “if you cant say anything nice dont say anything at all”.
Im not a moderator and have nothing to do with the running of this site, but I personally think the numbers are realistic, and hate to see people challenging a great post so that THEY dont want to post anymore.
WHy would anyone want to share if they are going to get “really, those numbers are pretty high, since I cant catch that many you must be full of spit… “. I know I wouldnt post jack after that

C’mon, 24 between 24 and 27 inches? One nite with the novice wives??? If so, good for you and great for the ladies! Sorry, but I just find those numbers hard to believe.
Seemed like you thought they maybe lying, or at least exagerating.

Arent they considered rough fish and illegal to return to the water once they are taken?
Please tell me your trolling…
I am all about selective harvest… smaller drum (genetic kin to the saltwater drum people pay $$$$ to eat down South) are actually quite good, I wouldnt pan fry them in butter or anything, but they are fine with shore lunch…
Ive fried them up and fed them to friends who would “never” eat them and had them not only not tell the difference, but actually like them.
Same here for a bit and it was corrosion on (in) the connectors inback… I took a toothpick and some dielectric grease and cleaned them out (being careful not to break the tpick off inside the holes)… then use compressed air to blow out most of the grease and you are good to go, and it will help prevent furthur corrosion…
It could also be a symptom that your transducer is getting ready to go… I just replaced my X-71 with X-125 (yesterday) with the exact same problem… after a while depth simply went away like a switch…
Talked to the Lowrance people and they state that the crystals in the ducers life expect is time certain and there is nothing that can be done… when they go they simply go.
New transducer with temp for X-71 $69.00 new X-125 $299.00… make it hard to simply get a new ducer.
Depending on the boat you maybe better just using the inside bench seat area for a livewell then buy a livewell top and seal…
Most livewells bring in lake water via a livewell pump then it over flows back into the lake. For tourneys a bubbler would almost certainly NOT be what you are looking for… they are ok for bait in a cooler but I would imagine any game fish you put in that you want to keep would be at great risk of death if kept for long at all in cooloer with bubbler…
Better way is to remove bench seat (if thats the style) seal the sides so it holds water (or add insert) then cut hole for pump intake, one for overflow and viola… livewell.
This is alot of work and will cost $60-$100 depending on equipment, and if you get a “real” livewell top (has to seal or water will splash out)… Timer is another $35.00.
Good Luck !!!
yea it was to the left of where we were got the perch… actually the same place I told you that we nailed them in the summer… I fished the 18′ and Rian cast to the shallows for sunnies worked out well…
Drift sock off the bow, I agree with the control… When I dont care to do that I raise the motor a bit (lessens control though) and will drop the trolling motor for extra drag… that gets me down to about 1 mph… after that I just use the electric.
Ive been on some big waters with my 1750 (and Nisswa 17 footer before this) and I try to get going to plane in the trough (low between the waves) then cut over across the tops when speed is up… then its a matter of comfort and either topping the waves or getting the cadence right to provide a little more comfort… from crest to crest.
One suggestion especially for larger waters in the cold… be sure to have a pair of clear goggles… with the cold water splashing you in the face it makes it hard to breath at times let alone drive… the goggles take away at least one of the burdens… I lost mine overboard on Superior when a wind came up that was not in any forcast… made it back but for the first times in my life I was truley scared in the boat that we may not make it back safely.
My best year on the Croix last year when it was pretty tough for many… the key for me was electronics… we would go from protruding sand bar to the next and check with electronics, fish for 10 minutes (or more if walleyes / sauger) then onto next spot… we used bright (orange) power bait minnows for sauger and live minnows / crawler for eyes… later in the spring to all plastic…
It 100% called for using electronics… more so than any given year for me and mine… they werent where they “should” have been and were in some pretty strange places….
Found same last night… they were in the shallows last week but when it got nice out… they seem to have vacated the 2-3 fow areas…
Yea, and there was no apparent location pattern except for just meandering around… the tradiditional spot on the spots were no better than any random cast…
Hey Jo how are ya ??? Maybe we will see you out there, Kim and I still owe you guys a lunch at the dock !!!!! Hows the new boat been ???

Mix wheaties, corn, honey, molases, add flour as needed to make a somewhat soft dough (in food processor)… place dough ball on end of trebble hook with tips of hooks just barely exposed (yes yes yes for those who will scream… place a bead (or spinner blade) of any color within 2″ of the hook to be legal while using trebble hook for bait, also cant hurt attract) then toss it out and wait for the drag to scream… replace bait by yanking pole so it falls off frequently… fresh dough is vital.
If your hands are very very dirty from the dough, just wash them off in the water… but remember “chumming” in MN is illegal.
You could also check the regs and buy a cheap bow and shoot them… gardens love carp.
I bought a red replacement for mine at Wayzata Bait for well under $10 including the black rubber band thing.

Port operations are not responsible for checking shipping containers. Customs is. It’s always been that way. You want customs to check every shipping container? Then will you be satisfied waiting 2-3 years for products to be delivered from overseas? Would you be willing to pay 2-3 times more for those products. We are talking about everything you may buy at Wall Mart…..Like it or not. This would bring the US economy to a grinding halt. People would lose their jobs, companies would go out of business, how about your 401 k balance = zero!
UAE is an ally of the US. Has been for many years. I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Can you please articulate why this is a problem for the UAE to own an operations company in the US? I don’t see much difference between them and Toyota with assembly companies in the US. What about China, Japan and Germany buying up US real estate at a record pace? Would’nt that be a bigger concern?
People who don’t fully understand the way a world economy works fall off their chair with the left wing, anti Bush media slant a story that is essentially a non-issue. Foreign companies will continue to buy and operate corporations in the US. Just like US companies will do the same in other parts of the world.
This is clearly NOT a national security problem. This is a problem with the news media in this country.
And by the way, no. The Teamsters are not keeping WMD’s out of the country. Bush is doing a very fine job of that if you ask me.
-J.
Yup. Would rather see UK still in control, I do see some possible problems, but that could exist with almost any country to own the operations…
Yes yes and yes…
I usually fish the flats or reefs… perfect for jigging… we usually pull cranks though just for times sake… there are also some nice weedy bays for norterns…
I fish mostly Pool 4 and above, including the Croix… had the best walleye year ever in that area… really put together the early (walleye opener) till early July bite.
Big ticket was sand bars, adjacent to deep water and using electronics (Croix). Multi species note: when we fell off the bars and got to rock / sand in deeper water we also did very well on smallies and some realy nice crappies. Also got some decent catfish when we were using jig and crawler…
Mind you 20″ was a gift from our state legislature… In a conversaton with a high ranking enforcement officer I was speaking to on several issues, “there was no biological consideration given” for the new “trophy” reduction… but was instead simply passed without substantial DNR input.
Sad to see laws passed just for the gipper… eventhough it appears often that MN simply wants us to catch less fish, the DNR works too hard to have laws based on emotion rather than science passed…
Two cars went under yesterday on Tonka (West end)… anyone who drives is looking for trouble. One of the cars slid into recently opened water. There was another story in which they showed 12″ in one spot and walked 150′ and it was 4″.

Anyone ever tell you that the power lines outside of and inside of your house are proven to cause Leukemia? True fact my friend.
I work in the industry…
Hmmm discourage tourism ??? I got an idea, lets impose a statewide 20″ walleye length for no biological reason !!!! Good news is there will be less crowding over the next couple of years when visitors figure out its even harder to keep a limit.
BE VERY CAREFUL ABUOT THE TWO FLIES !!!!
I used two “Artificial Flies” last year for crappies (open water) and was told could only use one… did some research including calling the Chief Enforcement Officer (forgot her name but she was head of enforcement) and she states that they were not enforcong it last year but soon (should have been done last legislative session) they were going to specify TWO FLIES WITH FLYROD ONLY.
Anyway they were quite angry that the initial law had the loophole that included other than fly rod…
” Subd. 2. Hooks. An angler may not have more than one
hook on a line, except:
(1) three artificial flies may be on a line used to take
largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, trout, crappies, sunfish, and
rock bass; and
(2) a single artificial bait may contain more than one hook.
“
Above is the 2005 session, the DNR person said it along with the walleye 20″ length limit had already been passed and would be enforced for the 2006 season, but I cant find where it was ammended for proper enforcement this year…
Mind you she also said that since it was schedualed to pass that they could start enforcement even if its not in the published regulations as they are only a “guide” to the law.
From the conversation I had they could not wait to start enforcing the “two flies” for fly fishing only.
