I will be going back to try to find one of those 16″ fish.
I had a friend who caught a 3lbs. Crappie out of that lake a few years ago.
They taste great. I fried some up last night in a little butter. Seasoned with flower and old bay seasoning.
Thanks for the post, I don’t see enough from our area. Man I can’t wait for my motor to get fixed.
Cool pics. I fished it a few times back in college over east of Sheffield. Should go back sometime.
Space Bags. The ones that Roll up. They keep your cloths dry and take up alot less space. I think we got ours at Bed Bath & Beyond. I love those things, especially for camping.
Just thought I would add some info I found since I was not sure of the difference in Treated or Marine grade.
Besides this Marine grade is made with 100% waterproof glue.
PRESERVATIVE TREATED PLYWOOD
These may be used for ground contact or other applications subject to decay or insect predation when pressure-preservative-treated to relevant standards, such as those of the American Wood Preservers Association (AWPA). V600 panels meet Exposure 1 glue bond classification. V611 panels meet the Exterior classification.
MARINER PLYWOOD
Another APA Custom Product, V-281, is Mariner Plywood. Mariner Plywood is a high-grade, high-performance, hybrid Exterior grade plywood panel manufactured in accordance with an APA developed Custom Product Specification. Mariner Plywood may be manufactured with Douglas-fir, western larch or Group 1 southern pine.
Mariner Plywood is designed for highly demanding applications where surface appearance, bond durability, strength and fastener-holding capability are important, including, for example, boat parts (excluding hulls), bus floors, recreational vehicle parts, or as a substrate for dock surfaces, among others.
As with Marine grade and other PS 1 plywood grades, Mariner Plywood is not decay resistant, but can be preservative-treated as a secondary process.
P.S.
As stated above never use Aluminum fastners or some galvanised with the new treated woods. The copper content is alot higher than the old stuff.
Use Hot Dipped Galvanised or Sainless Steel fastners.
You check one of the Bowfishing forums. I think that is all most of those guys use. I go to the BowfishUSA site once in a while because I do some Bowfishing and I see them used quite a bit. I am sure they have some reviews.
Thanks guys,
Yea I have seen some left hand spincast reels. I need to find a short rod.
That is pritty cool. I don’t think I have ever seen a wild Albino animal
I have been using it (4lb) for a year on my ultra-light for crappie fishing and such. No problems with it of any kind.
I am getting to respool right now with some Suffix Elite. Thought I would give it a try.
Not respooling because I didn’t like the cajun but because I have lost so much from snags etc. do to the brush I always try to fish in I am almost out of line on my spool.
Actually there are allot of flathead’s in the Rock from Sterling/Rock Falls south. We just started the last couple years trying to catch them on rod and real in the Erie Area.
They catch 20-30 pounders out from below the Rockfalls dam all the time.
Not many people fish for much more than Flathead and Channels in this section of river. My brother caught 1 walleye once by accident fishing a worm on the bottom.
Thanks guys,
Also how are you hooking your Bait? Through the lip, Back?
Thanks guys,
I will give you a report when I get back. Hopefully with Pictures.
Thanks for the report. One of these days I am going to have to try Sprung Lake, I’ve never fished there.
I believe it is a local bait. The only place I have found it it Rock Falls. I usually buy a big tub when I go through that area. I get it at SCHREINER’s, 1308 1ST AVE,ROCK FALLS, IL , 61071-0000, (815) 625-4200
Maybe you can call them and they can tell you who makes it so you can call him. If I remember when I get home tonight I will look at my tub and see if it has a number on it.
It is my favorite dip bait.
Here is a link to the WI DNR website concerning stocking a private pond. It is Legal. WI DNR Stocking
And channel cat usually do well transplanted, not sure what else.
Well unfortunately I don’t have much to report. We didn’t make it out to L&D 13 as planned. We spent to much time getting the boat ready(I haven’t had it out this spring yet.) and I didn’t want to go out for just an hour. So we hit Cattail slough and I can tell you there isn’t anything biting there right now.
Thanks for all your help though.
Thanks for all the info. I was in Davenport Gander Mountain Wed. and a guy said he was there Monday and they caught 7 most on stick baits and some on 3 ways. If nothing else it will be good to be out on the water.
This is where I was thinking of going, is that a good place to start?
Thanks guys. It sounds like we are going to try doun from Lock 13 Sat afternoon.
I got some H20 Jigs and some supper doos and rings ordered, hopefully I get them by this weekend.
I also checked out the In-fisherman website and found instructions on setting up three ways so I think I will try some of those also.
Thanks for the info I will let you guys know how it goes.
